If NCL offered completely non-smoking cruises, would you book?

Look at how many times the word "casino" is mentioned in this thread. From NCL's perspective, the link between smoking and gambling is a cash cow. Even the wording of their own policy shows that NCL wants the people who enjoy smoking to continue to gamble...

I believe I read more people saying that if the casino was smoke free they would gamble.

I was just in Laughlin NV and was again surprised how many gamblers don't smoke. I made an effort to look around to see if folks were smoking or not. I don't think, in the two days I was there, I ever sat next to or near a smoker.

Precisely! And when I suggest a smoke free cruise, I'm looked at as someone trying to take somebody's rights away! I really do not see smoking as a "right" when it affects the health of those around them, and second hand smoke does travel. I know when a car has passed me with a smoker inside! The smell, the smoke, is there polluting the air we breathe. I know that this idea of a smoke free cruise was tried several years ago by Carnival on, I believe, the Paradise, and it was unsuccessful. But many years have passed. More and more people have quit smoking because of health concerns, and far fewer are starting up that horrible habit. We are raising a much more educated generation, who would never put one of those cancer sticks in their mouths. More and more public areas have banned smoking, not only in their facilities, but anywhere even in their parking lots. So, YES! Let's make cruise ships smoke free too. I feel for the people addicted to this habit, but it does not mean I want to expose myself or my family to their unhealthy habits. They come off so righteous, like we are the ones with the problem. As a retired RN, I've seen many a patient die as a result of this habit, including my own mother in law. Besides COPD and heart disease, the list of cancers continues to grow. There is NO justification for keeping this allowed on ships. And I feel that the ships would still be totally full. So I no longer buy that argument. It may have been the case when Carnival tried it, but that excuse will no longer work. Far more people are non smokers than smokers.

As a non smoker this is precisely why I would say no! Admittedly generalizing, I have had more fun with smokers, be it at the bar or craps table, than the self righteous non smoker. Better stories, more fun and better nightlife, be it at trivia, run at the blackjack table, tubing down some excursion river, on the beach. Just tend to be more easygoing go with the flow, non complaining folks and a lot more fun company.

On Costa they are allowed to smoke in cabins> I would think this is a fire hazard in such confined quarters. My hubby smokes BUT not inside and we wouldn't want a cabin that people have smoked in, you can't get the smell out and it makes me stuffy.

Well I hate to break it to you but Norwegian used to allow smoking in cabins. I was on the gem in 2010 inside cabin and allowed to smoke in my room. So yes, you have probably stayed in a room people have smoked in.

Logistically I can't imagine how this would work. In theory it sounds great and of course, I'd book. But NCL will offer these cruises on certain limited itineraries, on certain ships, with limited ad specific dates. Most of us, I'm just guessing here, wouldn't be able to work out just any date, be enthusiastic about just any itinerary just because it's non-smoking.

It's not like a theme cruise where a big musician with a huge draw of fans would drop everything, re-work their vacation plans and book this specific cruise no matter where the heck the ship is sailing.

I can't imagine there's anyone who would pay extra. Unless it's say an asthmatic who can't tolerate casino smoke drifting onto the Atrium area and the only way she and her family could cruise is if it were non smoking. Then she might be willing to pay a premium. You're talking a fraction of people.

You didn't get enough arguing in the other smoking thread that you had to go and dig up an old one to argue some more? Odd.

Ehhh been searching for info on the ship I'm sailing on to legitimate smoking areas for travel companions, to be within the rules and some of these posts just rile me up, sorry.

Terrified to actually ask where on my ship.

Ships do need to be designed better. To limit smoking to certain places and the casino, then cut a big hole in the top of the casino, so that smoke goes through the entire ship was very stupid planning on someone's part! Epic is the only NCL I've been on and cigarette smoke was throughout the ship. Overall, I think Epic is very poorly planned. It looks pretty and slick and modern, but it doesn't seem to take people into account.

Yes! Would be thrilled.

Maybe if the extra cost isn't too high. Azamara is out of my price range.

A better question that would be beneficial for the Suits in Miami,

If you answered yes on question 1, how much do toy spend per cruise on gambling, drinking, art auctions, etc. Our answer would be little to nothing. That I think is part of the reason they don't do it.

In most ships, the only indoor places are casino and sometimes a cigar bar. There are usually one or two outdoor decks on one side of the ship.

If you can find Dailies, the info is in there. Most non smokers really appreciate when smokers take the time to learn where they are allowed to smoke.

Better to post on an old thread (only 8 months old) than to start a new one. ;)

So,,, it's "better" to make a nasty comment, attacking a post made 8 months ago, than,,,,, start a new thread? Huh???? It was not any new content. It was a cheap shot ("Pot meet kettle") to as post made 8 months ago.

YES, I would book one, however I think the smokers should pay the premium because of the extra clean up that is needed due to them ... as well as .... smokers are in the minority and are endangering their own health as well as every one else's health ....

I wonder if NCL ever looked into having specific cruises be 100% non-smoking? If they did:

1. Would you book one?

2. Would you be willing to pay a premium to book a cruise that was 100% smoke-free?

I don’t smoke but this doesn’t make sense to me. At most ashtrays have to be dumped. I havent seen cigarettes all over the place.

What about drinkers? All those cups littering the deck everywhere and some people getting sick in public places and bathrooms. Make them pay extra fees? All the cleaning is included in the cruise price whether people are considerate and throw things away themselves or leave it for the crew to deal with. My opinion.
