Unexpected Offers

We have cruised 20+ times with Princess in the last 5 years. With our last three cruises we were offered a moreover offer for the first one. A upgrade offer from inside to balcony and for the third, a free upgrade to a balcony, again from an inside. Is this what happens once you have cruised with Princess regularly?

Not exactly. We've cruised about 20+ times with Princess and had a "free upgrade" only once ... and that was when we were down at the Ruby level. The "Move-Over" and "Upgrade" offers are usually made when one cruise (or category) is oversold or if they have a large group looking to book that cruise. The "freebie" is usually because they have some unbooked space in the next category up (they'll most likely happen within a few days of sailing) ... and the free upgrades are good PR. (y)

No.

Moveover offers occur when they have oversold the ship and need volunteers to take such an offer so that GTY bookings can be satisfied. Getting such an offer mainly depends on what type cabins are needed. AFter that, it is uknown to us how the selection of who to ask is made.

Upgrade offers are new over the past couple of years. They are made to get more $$$ to fill unsold higher category cabins. Also possible they need your type cabin to fill a GTY bookjing. Again unknown is how they select who to make these offers to, but it is not because you have cruised with Princess many times.

The free upgrades used to be offered more often. Now, thanks to passengers willing to pay $$$ for an upgrade, the free ones to a higher type cabin are relatively rare. Past posts have seen these type upgrades given to seasoned Princess cruisers and also to those on their first Princess cruise. The more people that jump at a chance to pay for an upgrade, the less free upgrades will be given. Why give the milk away if people are willing to pay for the cow?

Many have posted in the past that they have never been given a free upgrade to a higher type cabin.

My opinion you have just been lucky. On your next cruise spend some time in the Casino. I hope your luck continues!! :D :D

I don't believe they have anything to do with status.

But also have no idea how they pick who to make offers to.

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to the freeupgrades. I have heard of upgrades fromin inside cabin to a mini suite. Insteadthey could have upgraded several customers one level and made several peoplehappy.

Excellent point, but that would involve a lot more work. We got upgraded from OV to a balcony on our first cruise. Certainly spoiled us.

We have also cruised over 20 times with Princess and 2 cruises ago a moveover offer was made to my kids who were in another cabin. I rang them and said we'd take it if they'd offer it to us as well, but they refused the offer (kids were in an inside and we had a balcony).

Wowie Zowie! 20 cruises in the last 5 years. I'm lucky if I get one (or maybe 2) a year.

Our first cruise was on the Coral to Alaska. We booked an unobstructed window cabin and about a week before the cruise we got an email saying we had been upgraded free to a balcony. It's the only upgrade we've ever received. I've always figured it was an excellent business move on Princess' part because it totally spoiled us. We've never booked anything other than a balcony or a mini-suite since!
