Live-ish from Liberty 4/16-4/23

Thank you! Good stuff. We are on board in August with the other itinerary but we are always more interested in the ship related info since we know the drill with the ports. Hoping your cruise is wonderful!

Once onboard we went straight to check on our First Night Done Right dinner to make sure it was for Chops. When I have her my room number (or what I thought it was!) we weren't listed!! Eek!

I then look on my sea pass card and realize that all day I have been giving out the wrong info!

We visited the promenade, are some pizza, signed the kids up for kids club and then as soon as cabins were open, we went to check out our rooms and try to find our luggage!

Luckily it all worked out pretty quickly!

Loving your review so far. WHere did you go to check on the First Night Done Right? Did they have anything in your room or was checking on it the only way you knew what you got? Did you end up with chops and did you have to do anything special to get it or is that what they initially selected?

Would love to share some pictures from the slide/flow rider...but the wifi is dreadfully slow..(please don't ask me to do a speed test - that exceeds my internet skill!). They had advanced stand up from 9-9:30, 9:30-11:00 regular stand up, 11:00-3 is boogie boarding, and then stand up again at 3. And all slides open from 9:30-5 or so.

I had read on here to stop and ask when I boarded. I stopped at Sabor to ask because that was closest to us (we had lunch on the promenade to avoid the WJ chaos). I told the hostess that I had booked it and I wanted Chops and asked if she could see where we were. I assume it's where we were placed by how quick she was but she may have also been able to change it quickly too.

I forgot to see if we had a message on the tv/phone for it which is what I think we are 'supposed' to get.

Chops is definitely a LONG meal. I don't know why they drag it out so much - it was delish, but VERY long!

Kids cupcake class was really cute...3 cupcakes /1.25 hours. $22. Kids can be left alone although several parents (myself incuded) loitered...

Someday if I can upload photos you will see the chefs and my 6 year olds work here... Not to hard for age 6!

I can answer this. We just got off LOS yesterday. They definitely still have it! I went there specifically to get one. It was really good! Cost was $14. But, what I highly recommend doing is the mixology class. It was only $25 & you get to learn & make 5 different martini recipes. Plus, they fill full glasses of every drink they make during the course of the class & hand those out to everyone at the end. I had 3 full martinis sitting there to drink when it was over. It was really so much fun & absolutely worth the cost just for all the drinks you end up with. I was only sorry we waited till the last day to do it. Most of the other people in the class had also done it the day before & had enjoyed it so much they came back to do it again.

Was the martini class something you could sign up for on the planner before the cruise?

Misc Day 2 notes..

- lunch in the windjammer had a fantastic Seafood Spaghetti - it had just the right hint of red pepper flake and delicious shrimp. One of the highlights of the day! I of course have a photo of this to share eventually!

- getting chairs by the pool or splash pad is as challenging as everyone says. I wish they had some locked/cubby type storage spaces at the pool areas to put 'stuff'. Our family of 4 is often just looking for a place that is dry enough to put our towels/shoes/phones within eye sight of where we are. (We share a single chair if we can get it!).

- it's a little annoying that before going to the flow rider / water slides, you have to get a towel Deck 11/midship.

- They do seem to be legitimately scanning for towels but I have not tried to trick the system with a partial return yet. [emoji12]

- there are VERY few chairs near the splash pad that afford any view of where the kids actually are splashing (the hot tub side) - literally I think there are 7-10 max. We have been sitting on a bench instead. wonder if they switched to upright chairs vs lounge chairs for front row near splash pad if they could fit in more seats (2 rows? Or a row and a bench?) in that small area in front of the stairs on the hot tub side. Everything you have read about the excessive water by the splash pad is true [emoji98][emoji98][emoji98] - your feet/shoes WILL get wet and it is slippery.

- The 2nd In the Air show was cancelled tonight due to technical difficulties. I was really bummed about this - not just because I was looking forward to it but because there is SOOO little to do at 8:30 at night!! They replaced the show with a pool viewing of 'Sing' (which I have seen in the theatre).

MDR thoughts..

- this was our first night in the MDR for MTD. We have a 5:45 reservation for 5 nights. Our waitstaff was okay - they tried to get to know my kids and make them laugh and even traded some fist bump jokes with each other but it was again a very long dinner especially at the beginning. I think it was 20 minutes before someone even took our actual order. They had visited the table 3-4 times by that point.

- MDR food (Saffron menu that maybe someday I will be able to upload) - was okay - some stand outs, some 'eh.. The prime rib with mashed potatoes and mushrooms in the wine sauce was a stand out. The scallops au gratin app which I was having as a main course was just 'eh. Also - If you like Lobster Bisque, remember that this is not the very creamy kind.

- The thing that disappointed me the most was that no one volunteered to help cut up my daughters food tonight - her melon appetizer or chicken breast. This was handled every night on a previous cruise and again last night in Chops (of course - coincidentally - since we had the same waiter both the last cruise and in chops, my sample size is low).

- We saw our waiter MUCH more than our assistant waiter. And unfortunately both of them were a little too quiet when they spoke that I had to often repeat what they said to my husband (who does have some hearing loss) but even to my kids who do not! Seems like a cue they should have noticed and spoke up a bit?

Casino:

The single deck blackjack table in the Non-Smoking side of the casino seems to always be a popular place to be! I wish there were more non-smoking areas in the casino!

I will share some kids club feedback and kids compasses later this week...

Wow that is disappointing about the Lobster Bisque, RCCLS soup and bisques were always standouts back in the day, we never missed any of those, She Crab Soup, Lobster Bisque, Garlic Soup and Potato Jalapeno my favorites! I'll be checking that out soon.

Too bad you didn't realize you can park free at Gaido's during your cruise. Would have saved you $$. Also the food is great at Nick's Bar and Grill beside Gaido's pool. Much less expensive than the more formal Gaido's restaurant, also on the property.

Nick's makes an excellent mojito, also.

Following along with you - we board Liberty in 12 days!!

Would love to get your opinion on Jeff, the Cruise Director.

Oh - I totally knew that, but I would have still had to get the 4 of us to/from port. That was totally worth the local parking fee!!

No. You'll only find it listed in the cruise compass. It was in the afternoon the last 2 sea days. I believe you could call the R-Bar from your room & reserve a spot or go by there & do so. We actually just decided to do it spur of the moment. And they had 3 spots available.

This picture thing is driving me crazy ... Why could I upload them from our first day but not anymore???

Anyway..Day 3 at Sea was a fun and relaxing time.

We spent most of it by the pool/slides/flowrider, or eating.

The BellyFlop contest was possibly the highlight of the day for activities - I had heard many not so great things about Jeff the cruise director, but my whole family thought he did a great job hosting this event.

We seem to have a GREAT group of men on this ship. First demonstrated in that Belly Flop sign ups were completed in record time - no trouble getting anyone in the different weight ranges - and everyone really brought their A game. The winner basically did a rock solid jump free trust fall into the water and deserved the 5s across the board. The group flop and again the winners circle flop were executed in similar style to massive applause. Anyone considering this contest - definitely consider the trust fall method!

The lines for Sprinkles ice cream was also another pleasant surprise. I figured with all of the kids on board it would be a mess, but orderly fast moving lines and very little mess. FYI - one side had Vanilla / Strawberry, the other side had only Chocolate. Choose your line wisely!

The Tidal Wave slide was open all day and I loved it! It's definitely more psychologically thrilling when you think you might hit the top/end of the ride from that high up in the ocean, than it is physically thrilling, but we loved it.

The Green/Orange slides are horrible! Took me 68 seconds to get down the green one - I was constantly stuck! Totally sucked...

My son says that the yellow slide in the splash pad area is WAAAY better than green/orange and highly recommends it to those who are eligible. He probably went on it 10-15 times because it was actually fast.

Flow Rider lines...

For the 3pm stand up session, my son was the first to go. He had his first turn at 3:07 and his second at 3:24. The line seemed to be about the same length (the length of the flowrider) the entire time. He got in line around 2:45 to be 'first'. It's ALOT of standing in line for 2 x 45 seconds flow rider turns. My son opted not to get in line the 3rd time though solely because he has a sunburn and it hurt a lot to wipe out!

Dinner was at Sabor - the tableside Guacamole was excellent as was all aspects of our dinner and service. Maybe it was our choices? We had no encounters with anything less than very good and several things that were excellent with a few deserts winning the status of 'amazing' from my kids.

We had:

Queso, Calamari, Jalepeno Chicken Bacon apps

Barbacoa Tacos

Carne Asada Burrito

Carnitas Burrito

Cheese Quesadilla

Dessert Tray including some bonus seconds

I had the Red Sangria to drink. It was a really large glass and very tasty. Well worth the $8 if you are not on the beverage plan!

Our dinner at Sabor was well paced and lasted about 1 hour, 10 minutes.

The trick is to cross your legs, put your weight on your heels and shoulders and lift your backside off the slide. Good luck.
