Hitting It

I did win $150 playing bingo. And two cruise mates won gambling. One hit for $1800 playing dollar slots and the another $1100 playing nickel slots. People do win, there are always a few on every cruise. But the house always comes out ahead. That's why it's called a game of chance.

Have you ever hit a jackpot or won anything big in the casino?

I just play it for for (with hope to win). I don't usually bet big so when/if I win it usually minimal.

Never.

But the only time I gambled was when Carnival provided $80 of Casino OBC. I played Blackjack $6 minimum. Played for about 2 hours and became bored. Went back to my cabin with $82 in chips. Returned a couple day later and after an hour was bored again. I then played another twenty minutes or so until I had $74 in chips (I wanted to have four $1 chips in my stack). I kept the four $1 chips to have as souvenirs (actually golf ball markers) and cashed out the remaining $70.

Funny the high rolling gal next to me told me I really was not playing very well...not making smart moves....as she kept having to buy more chips. All I did was follow the exact same rules the dealer plays by. IMO you just lose slower following that approach.

I normally don't play any game in the casino other than poker (Craps looks interesting, I am just to much of a novice and don't understand the game enough to risk $). For me, playing Black Jack or slots is akin to watching paint dry or grass grow. Slots is mindless and boring. Black Jack is barely any better. One cruise I entered a Poker tourney. $100 buyin and there were 9 of us. Fortunate enough to win so that was $800 (The ship had to get their rake of course [emoji57]). DW was going to meet me in Casino for dinner. She still wasn't there, so I sat down at I believe was either a 3 card poker table/Caribbean poker....Within 6 hands of playing, I was up another $1000. Lost the next hand, I got up, handed the dealer $100 (he couldn't believe I was leaving), walked away. Just then my wife came down. She was very happy to find out she had some extra spending $$$$ for that nights jewelry sale [emoji16]

I once won $1000 playing Black Jack one night! Was one of the best times I have ever had playing. It was a table of girls and we closed down the casino that night. That was many cruises ago and I never duplicated that again (lol). As for the slots I pretty much break even as they are very tight on the cruise ships.

I've had about 6 jackpots over $2K playing quarter slots on 32 Carnival cruises. The highest was almost $4K on a quarter machine. Carnival always reported these wins to the IRS. Once on Celebrity I hit for $2500, no questions or IRS involved.

I wonder if people realize that in order to hit a jackpot, or even some of the other top prizes, you must be playing max credits, whatever the denomination, from penny slots to hi rollers. The only exception might be a poker machine.

I've seen people play for one unit, hit a jackpot, and then stare at the machine when it doesn't pay off. Blazing 7's come to mind.

Some of the new penny slots take $8.88 max, so I try to avoid those and play 3 max @ the quarter, half dollar and dollar level.

I was playing let it ride poker on the Carnival Elation and the first 3 cards were all diamonds, so I let it ride and two more diamonds came up I was also playing the pair plus bet. My only problem was I had the Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Nine. I missed the royal flush by one card. It would have paid about $17,500. I think I won about $750.00 so still a nice win but what a disappointment. I now only play slots as I don't have any extra cash to play let it ride. I did well on Norwegian last October winning $100.00 several times on a 2 cent slot for 50 cents a bet. I actually came home with more cash than I left with on that cruise. I was able to purchase all my souvenirs in port with cash.

:D My husband last October on the Freedom... playing the table game Ultimate Texas Hold 'em. Minimum bet was $5 and a single hand ends up costing a minimum of $20. He was betting the max bet $25 per and had bet before the flop an Ace/Queen off suit. So, he had $150 on the hand and another $25 on the sucker side bet. I think there was four to the Royal Flush on the board and the card missing was the Queen. When the other players had the other 2 Queens he realized...HE had the Royal. I've never seen him so flustered. I had gotten up and went to the room for something and was gone about 10 mins. I sat back down and he said...somebody has the RF.

It paid $14k. He gave everyone at the table a black chip (6 or 7 players) and tipped the dealers somewhere around $1500, I think. He kept playing and before I made him stop for dinner he had won back all the money he had given away.

We paid off our ship account, started charging everything we could and still had to report excess of $10k with customs. It was easy...and we got out of town QUICKLY on embarkation!

And as an added bonus... it was on the last night of the cruise and the casino still hasn't gotten it back!!!! lol But, we've gotten a couple of really good offers I REALLY wanted to take...and would have if work would have allowed the time.

My first cruise in 2009 on the Fascination--won $5000 on a .50 bet on a slot, went on to win the slot tournament for $500, bingo for $750 and some other odd amounts on slots---walked of the boat with over $7000 in cash!!

3 years ago (on breeze) bought a bingo package that included 5 of those long pull tabs--won $2000 on one of those pull tabs, last night of that cruise won over $1000 on a $1.35 bet on a slot--walked off with over $3000 in cash.

Those were the big hits...I normally bring about $500 per cruise to gamble. A few times, lost it all, a few times came back with some of it and those 2 big cruises won a ton :) Taking my 10th cruise in October

In 41 cruises, I have had about 10 or more Royal Flushes on video poker ($1,000 each). On our last cruise on the Paradise, I played a slot machine most of the 5 days where I won a $300 jackpot at least 6 times playing $.60 per play. Also won 10 $60 mini-jackpots on the same machine. Not huge amounts, but enough so that I brought home almost all the cash I brought for gambling those 5 days. Doesn't usually happen that way though. DH won $1,100 on a Three Card Poker hand on Holland America plus he had a bet for the dealer who won over $300 on that hand. The dealer started to hyperventilate she was so excited.

Only one we ever hit was $1000 on dollar wheel of fortune on Princess. I walked up put in a $20 and first spin $1000 smackeroos. Lost a few thousand on that trip ;)

Very hard to win at slots on cruise ships so we go in expecting to lose...and are rarely disappointed
