Rare BillOh Posted February 19, 2018 Author #426 Share Posted February 19, 2018 I just want to add that we did the Southern Caribbean on the Jewel in January and loved it. It was our first cruise and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience. We would cruise again on Jewel in a heartbeat. Welcome to the club. I love the Oasis, Freedom, and Voyager class, but am looking forward to going back on Jewel again soon!
robind21283 Posted February 19, 2018 #427 Share Posted February 19, 2018 Anyone been recently and have a recommendation for a location for an afternoon video conference call in St. George’s? It would run 2:30 to 4 and really just need decent WiFi and a relatively quiet corner. Not trying to hide being on vacation. Also, is St. George’s one of the ports that require a tender to get to/from the ship? Sent from my iPad using Forums

Clarea Posted February 19, 2018 #430 Share Posted February 19, 2018 Thank you - any suggestions for my conference call location with WiFi? Ask crewmembers, like stateroom attendant, dining room staff, bar servers. They usually know the WiFi places at ports.

robind21283 Posted February 20, 2018 #433 Share Posted February 20, 2018 If that’s the best connection. I actually posted on behalf of my sister who does not want to purchase zoom (although her nerdy older sister can’t imagine not getting it and is willing to lend it to her). Her biggest concern is an uninterrupted connection ideally with video. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Sianli Posted February 21, 2018 #434 Share Posted February 21, 2018 We were on the TA last November and with all the time, and some specials, we tried every specialty restaurant at least once, and Chief's Table, only once. We have eaten at Chef's Table on at least 8 other sailings. After our experience on Jewel we may never try another one. Before we were even escorted into the Chef's Dining room, the host asked if we had experienced this before. He then apologized up front saying that they had cut back on wine offerings. We had booked with a discount, so weren't too surprised. However, the entire experience was sub par. Maybe we have had unusually good luck on our prior Chef's Tables, but on this there was no enthusiasm from staff. Most of the wines were white. The food was not unusual and not even very good, other than the filet that was the exact one you purchase in Chops. So I am thinking, this may be the first time I will actually be able to enjoy their traditional dessert tray with the spun sugar, etc. NOPE no such tray, just individually served dessert. I really do not know if this is an isolated experience on this sailing, the expected experience for Jewel, or a fleet wide change for Chef's Table. We have sailed once since then, and have four sailings coming up this year. I am not yet even tempted to book Chef's Table, which used to be a favorite highlight for us... That being said, we really did love the staff and this ship, and are sailing on her again this spring. We will save money we usually spend by avoiding some of the specialty experiences on board. Gotcha. Thanks. Curious if anyone has tried Chef’s Table on Jewel and their experience.
bookreader2017 Posted February 27, 2018 #435 Share Posted February 27, 2018 Just got off the Jewel on 12/31/17. Does anyone have any questions? Renee Sailing on the Jewel this May, first time on RCL. Are there any complementary evening shows onboard this ship? In NCL and Disney we could reserve spots on all shows, even the free ones. But on RCL Cruise Planner it seems all that can be reserved are the activities you pay extra for. Just wanted to know to better plan our dining schedules. Thank you!!! I don't remember the theater ever being very full, especially after the first night as the entertainment on Jewell of the Seas has a reputation for being pretty bad. We never had to rush in and get a seat, so that is the good thing. -F-

Rare BillOh Posted February 28, 2018 Author #440 Share Posted February 28, 2018 For those of you who didn't see in the Current CD thread, Andrea Olivera started this week as the CD on Jewel. They are in Antigua today. (Sure wish I was going there, but I'll try to enjoy Martinique) Andrea worked with Mark Walker on Harmony for a couple of weeks. Until recently he was Activities Director for Costa. I hope those of you cruising in the next week weeks will report back.

jobella418 Posted March 5, 2018 #443 Share Posted March 5, 2018 I just got off a 7 day and the 30% discount you get before getting on board is the best deal. I think the best deal they said once on board was 10% off. And be ready they hump your leg from the minute you get on until 4-5 days in before they leave you alone about booking those dinners! They even come around to you individually several times as you are relaxing onboard.
4wheeltravel Posted March 6, 2018 #444 Share Posted March 6, 2018 Just off the jewel. Couple of comments: We had balcony room 8560 - there were only 2 electrical outlets in the entire cabin. Made charging phones and fixing hair for 4 girls challenging. Skip the behind the scenes tour - boring and you don’t even get to go in the engine room just the bridge, laundry, kitchen and engine room office. Andreas did ok. Not my favorite. Josh from activities was hysterical. City of dreams show - kinda of like mediocre karaoke West end to broadway show - much better although there is no coherent flow from scene to scene Juggler is great Mo5iac group is fabulous We did chops and steaks were great so we tried to order the filet from the main menu the last night - not the same - not even cooked to correct temperature. Chops was worth it. Solarium has food 24/7 Voom purchased in advance is cheapest Let me know if you have any questions!
Traveling Library Posted March 6, 2018 #445 Share Posted March 6, 2018 Diamond lounge has a nice continental breakfast and they have a toaster! Bagels, English muffins, bread, cheese, meat, cut friut, yogurt, pastries. Also light sandwiches at lunch (not advertised but they are there). For decent coffee from the lounge coffee machine first select espresso and then cafe latte. Paper cup easily holds both.

jobella418 Posted March 6, 2018 #448 Share Posted March 6, 2018 One thing I forgot to mention just getting off the Jewel, as I was leaving the dock, I looked back to see the desk with all the confiscated materials they return to you after the cruise and 90% of the items were extension cords and power strips, few irons for those new cruisers I am sure. I read somewhere on CC that said to take a power strip because of the lack of outlets but I would say that is a big no, no based on how many power strips were on that table. I brought a 6 port USB power cable that takes one outlet I would recommend bringing that and all your USB cords instead.

For what little it's worth, when I got off Jewel in 2014, there was a waffle maker on the table. This time, maybe I'll take a picture of that table if there is anything interesting. Rare BillOh Posted March 14, 2018 Author #450 Share Posted March 14, 2018 I saw posts of the Oct 2019 TA for Jewel canceled. That should make for some interesting discussion and maybe my 3rd visit to Jewel may be my last. But we will see.
