Can I bring a bottle back onboard from port?

I would try it. If they want to destroy it or confiscate it, ask if they sell Coke on the ship. If they don't, I would argue that since you can't get it on the ship you should be able to return from port with it. I need that the security people wouldn't want to make a scene in front of other passengers over a bottle of pop that can't be purchased on the boat.

Worst case scenario look up the ingredients from both and perhaps you have an allergic reaction to something that is in Pepsi and not in Coke. I would then think you could make an argument for medical necessity.

Think outside of the box. The ridiculous rules and prices on some things make it worth your time to raise the issue.

So if Pepsi has red food coloring #22 and Coke doesn't - that makes Coke 'medically necessary' because.... you can't drink water, juice, Sierra Mist, lemonade, coffee, and tea also???? Yeah, good luck with that.

A trick that might work is buy a few bottles of liquor or wine and have your coke down in the same bag, then when you are sent over to the table to tag and hand over your booze only hand over the liquor/wine. I know of several people who have done this with liquor because the security at the scanner doesn't always communicate what and how much you have to the crew at the liquor check in, especially if they are busy. They see you hand over a bottle or two and assume that is all you have.

I'm going to piggy-back this thread to ask if anyone can tell me if there are soda machines at the Port of New Orleans.

By the way, last December on the Epic, one person in my party didn't have any problems bringing back a full Yeti from ports of call.

That may just be the silliest thing that has ever been posted on this forum. LOL Coke is a medical necessity?

LOL....maybe afterwards they could put their life savings on red in the casino.

Take a vacation! Don't take home to vacation! ;p:rolleyes:

Absolutely.

I know it is each to their own, but I have never understood why people need or expect to have the usual things that they do at home when they are on holiday.

One of the things about being away is that things are different. I'm on holiday, so I won't sleep in my own bed, won't have my comfy chair, will have different views, and will also have different things to eat and drink.

Otherwise it's just like being at home, and I may as well save my money and stay there.

But, as I say, each to their own. :)

I've brought a 16 or a 24 ounce bottle of coke back on the ship at least a dozen times. When we get off I'll by a bottle and drink it during the day, sometimes I buy another to bring back on, I put it either in my small backpack. Once I had it in the outside mesh pocket very easily seen. Have never been stopped or ask about it

Lucky you, you should but a lottery ticket.

I had my water taken every time, there's a reason I don't go to the casino, I wouldn't win

:') I don't get it, I swear they are random checking and I just fall into the cracks. My wife has been nailed with a half of a water bottle, and I've made it with a full bottle of coke.....go figure

We walked back on the ship with about 6 bottles of wine in Funchal and they didn't bat an eyelid. Go figure. Luckily for them it was all Madeira wine bought as gifts for family, we weren't drinking it on board (honest, neither of us actually drink wine). It's a popular souvineer and we saw loads of bottles being handed over and people paying corkage on them.

Diehard Coke drinker... no Pepsi for me. Can I bring a bottle of coke back onboard from port? Will they confiscate it? Just one from the vending machine or souvenir shop?

Depends... I was told to put a bottle of whiskey (brought from France for a friend) in my carry on, and it went through the scanners that everyone puts their bags on, and it went through.

  • 4 weeks later...
I am also a diehard Coke fan. I have always brought a 12 pack on board on embarkation and sometimes from ports. Never had it confiscated.

Have you been successful since the rules changed last summer? We've been stopped for a bottle of water we forgot in our hand carry.

Are EMPTY bottles allowed? I'm a bit of a Crystal Lite peach iced tea junkie. Usually bring empty 2 liter bottle to hotels with me and mix with tap water (started when travels took me to places with horrible tap water and I could barely afford bottled water). I suppose I could ask room service for a pitcher but bottle fits better in cabin fridge.

If not will manage... somehow! 😃

Empty bottles are even cool in airplane carryons. Yes you can bring them.

I'm also a Coke fan and can't drink Pepsi. I've brought Coke and water bottles back on ship with no issues on celebrity, Ncl and carnival. They are unopened and in my backpack in the bag with the receipt from where I purchased, but nobody has ever stopped me or even questioned me.

Actually went on the cruise last week. They left the 2 Liter in my suitcase and I had no issues bringing back a couple singles at every port. Thank God. Pepsi is just not the same :)

You lucked out. On my last NCL cruise every port had a trash can at security full of bottles people tossed. The one time I forgot and had a bottle of water in my bag, security found it and made me toss it.

We were on the Spirit last Christmas and one lady in front of us in the line to reboard in Casablanca had purchased a bottle of water on board prior to disembarking that morning and she had it confiscated when reboarding . To make matters worse it was unopened. She even produced the slip to prove she had purchased it onboard but they were having none of it and confiscated it all the same
