luvn2cruzzz Posted August 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2017 Will be sailing on the Konigsdam and trying to decide between the Pinnacle and Sel de Mer for our anniversary dinner. Have dined in the Pinnacle many times but the Sel de Mer will be new to us. Thoughts, please.
Cruise or Lose! Posted August 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2017 Following. I have been on more than a dozen HAL cruises, but have never heard of Sel de Mer. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Florida_gal_50 Posted August 13, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2017 I was very excited to try sel de mer on the koningsdam. Both my dining companion and I were underwhelmed. The food was no better than the dining room. I would do the pinnacle instead.
RuthC Posted August 13, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2017 Following. I have been on more than a dozen HAL cruises, but have never heard of Sel de Mer. It's a stand-alone specialty restaurant on the Koningsdam. Some ships have introduced it as a one-night specialty at the Pinnacle, instead of their regular menu. Cruise or Lose! Posted August 13, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2017 Ohhhhh. That explains it. I've never been on the Konigsdam. Thanks, RuthC [emoji3] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
catl331 Posted August 13, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2017 We liked SdM very much. I wouldn't say it's notably better or worse than the PG, but enjoyable because it's not the same old thing as on the other ships. I suggest you try it and make up your own mind. Krazy Kruizers Posted August 13, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2017 We have never done Sel de Mer but we certainly would try it for something different. We have done the Pinnacle dozens of times.
RandyinDEN Posted August 13, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2017 We are signed up for the Sel ee Mer popup twice on our upcoming 16 day panama canal cruise on the Westerdam. Since it is replacing Le Cirque we figured it would be worth a try.
catl331 Posted August 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2017 (edited) p.s. - On ships that have the Tamarind, we prefer that to the PG. :) Have you tried that on any ship? Edited August 13, 2017 by catl331
Stpatsirish Posted August 13, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 13, 2017 With the K having the Tamarind, I chose that over the Pinnacle for my birthday dinner next month. We will try Sel de Mer as well but so enjoyed the Tamarind on the NA that it was my choice for a special dinner. I prefer it to the Pinnacle. Seasick Sailor Posted August 14, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 14, 2017 We have 3 nights booked for Pinnacle and Oct 3rd booked Rudy's SDM on Oosterdam next month. We love Pinnacle but wanted to try something different too.

catl331 Posted August 14, 2017 #15 Share Posted August 14, 2017 Hope you will post your thoughts here after you haved dined there. The pop-up Sel de Mer in PG venues will probably be a much different experience than in the dedicated space on the K-dam. jbhcw Posted August 14, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 14, 2017 We have always been underwhelmed by pretty much most specialty restaurants on a variety of cruise lines....Our favorite was on the Carnival Spirit when they first introduced their brand of specialty restaurant and that was mostly due to the outstanding entertainment they had in this venue... We have enjoyed the chef's Table on Carnival a few times...but have passed on the Steak house and Pinnacle Grill on our last few cruises...but we are doing a "do over cruise" to make up for a not so good cruise in January on the Koningsdam...nothing to do with the ship...etc...so I am looking forward to the tamarind and to Sel de Mer in November on the Eurodam...if it doesn't measure up...it will still be all good...we'll be on a cruise...with hopefully better weather and better circumstances... dfish Posted August 14, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 14, 2017 On the Koningsdam last June, I ate at Sel de Mer, Tamarind and the Pinnacle Grill. I enjoyed the seafood platter very much at Sel de Mer and my companion said the sole was very good. I enjoyed the Tamarind and would eat there again, but I wouldn't rate it above the Pinnacle. They are very different and good in their own ways.

Frank5 Posted August 15, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Live it up and try all three! I did on a recent cruise and enjoyed each of them. Your favorite will probably depend upon your food preferences which vary from person to person.

ksmaxey Posted August 16, 2017 #22 Share Posted August 16, 2017 We just did the Sol de Mer as a pop up in the Pinnacle on the Westerdam last week. We thought it better than than the regular menu and the Le Cirque that it replaces. The biggie is that it is a very heavy seafood menu so your group should enjoy seafood. The fruits de mer were the best!
Sage Posted August 16, 2017 #23 Share Posted August 16, 2017 I was on the Koningsdam in March and ate at the Sel de Mer three times. My party enjoyed the restaurant very much. The service was wonderful.
