wesb1980 Posted August 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Me, wifey and 9 year old daughter are cruising on the Eclipse in Jan to the Carribean. Any ideas of the amount of kids, if any will be on board? Sent from my SM-G950F using Forums mobile app
Rare cruisestitch Posted August 17, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Very few because schools are in session.
champagne123 Posted August 17, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2017 (edited) There are always children on board. Tons of kids are home schooled now a days and parents will always continue to pull their children out of school. No way of telling how many though. Jeremiah1212 Posted August 17, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2017 We almost always cruise the last week of January or first week of February. Even on the 'kid friendly' lines there have been relatively few I assume to being shortly after holiday breaks and not that many weeks before spring break season starts. Last February on Reflection I would say there were maybe 10 kids on board.
flyingv4me Posted August 17, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Very few in my experience. School is in session for most everyone, which limits the number of children. I had a great time interacting with a child I saw many times on the elevator with his parents on one January cruise. We must have been on the same schedule! He took great delight in asking which floor we wanted and pressing the button for us. Nice family and I'd love to run into them again.
RotaryMike Posted August 17, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2017 the 14 night cruises will probably not have many school age kids, 1/07 and 1/21 are 14 night trips. Mike in CT

Rare chemmo Posted August 17, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Last time we cruised Jan there were several extended families with pre school children but hardly any your daughters age....Speak to the children Club on boarding. There will still be activities but they often combine ages. Hope you have a great cruise!

Alakegirl Posted August 17, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 17, 2017 While the numberer of home schooled children is growing, its still only around 3% of the school age population, i would anticipate very few school aged children on a 14 night cruis in January. Rare Cruise Raider Posted August 17, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2017 We've sailed on a dozen Celebrity cruises and twice that many on Princess. We always travel during the school year, although haven't sailed in January before. Of all the cruises over 10 days on Celebrity, I've seen a total of approx 5 children onboard. It's not to say they were not onboard, we just never noticed them. Of those children, only one was your daughter's age. Maybe on RCCL, not on Celebrity or Princess in my experience. stipmom Posted August 17, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Depends on when you are going in January. Where U.S. Schools go back right after the New Year Canadians usually go back a week later.
phoenix_dream Posted August 17, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Sailed Eclipse late January this year (14 day)- I think we counted 6 kids onboard but we could have missed a few. They were all pre-school age or younger.
Banjo Posted August 18, 2017 #15 Share Posted August 18, 2017 I've gone on several Caribbean cruises with Celebrity in January, probably count on my one hand how many were on-board. I think once school is back in session, a few days after New Years, you will see very few children.
Fish Lover Posted August 18, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 18, 2017 Very few because schools are in session. Schools in my area are closed for mid-Winter vacation the beginning of the month.

Any ideas of the amount of kids, if any will be on board? Sent from my SM-G950F using Forums mobile app Schools tend to have their breaks in February. In January, there will be very few children your daughter's age, especially if it is a cruise longer than 7 days.
