stoddaj1 Posted October 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2017 I saw a pic somewhere of a MSC bracelet which I assume would replace passengers carrying and producing the card for ship purchases. Any prediction as to whether this will be the "norm" on the Seaside? Sure would be handy for those of us without pockets!
Kwaj girl Posted October 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 18, 2017 No, thanks. Reminds me of Disneyworld.

Any prediction as to whether this will be the "norm" on the Seaside? Sure would be handy for those of us without pockets! It's the norm on Meraviglia now with the only requirement for a card being embarkation and disembarkation of the ship. So I would say yes Pete
jkrislc Posted October 18, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 18, 2017 Until they issue the bands for free, they won't be a normal, just an alternative to the card for ship board use. And until you can embark and disembark using them, I think they're a pointless novelty.

jkrislc Posted October 19, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Oh I didn't know they are a cost item, mine were free (yacht club) They're free for kids and those in certain categories, Aurea perhaps and above. I personally haven't decided if I'll buy one or not. I like the concept, but needing the card to get on and off the ship means I'm likely just going to rely on the card. toxicfairy Posted October 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Oh I sure hope it's optional NOT mandatory! I can't stand those things. Bra_BE2014 Posted October 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2017 I absolutely loved my bracelet and used it everyday. Bra_BE2014 Posted October 19, 2017 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Yes. but like me you got yours gratis and the masses in "steerage" have to purchase them In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't call it free considering how much one pays for YC, but it was so great I totally believe it's worth purchasing. Unless the price is something totally outrageous, of course, so I hope someone can report the price!
Rare MarkusToe Posted October 20, 2017 #16 Share Posted October 20, 2017 so you have to buy a new one every cruise or is this thing reusable?
Rare Shippy Posted October 21, 2017 #17 Share Posted October 21, 2017 Just of Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas LOVED their bracelet. It unlocked your door which was great at night when I returned to the room with a cup of tea & cookies. In the casino, you just tapped it against the slot machine & it kept track for you...no forgetting your room card in the machine like the old days... AND you could use it for getting on & off the ship at different ports. It was comfortable & waterproof. You would actually forget your were wearing it. I would assume the new Seaside bracelet would have all the same capabilities.

And until you can embark and disembark using them, I think they're a pointless novelty. I totally agree! We had them (free for YC guests and, IIRC, Aurea Experience guests, too) and gave up using them for that very reason. Too easy to get into the habit of not having the cruisecard on you all the time. Rare Beamafar Posted October 21, 2017 #19 Share Posted October 21, 2017 so you have to buy a new one every cruise or is this thing reusable? They're not re-usable, AFAIK. If you look at the photo of one that Bra_Be posted, you can see that it indicates the station location in case of emergency - that means that it's specific to that cruise. Unless the price is something totally outrageous, of course, so I hope someone can report the price! IIRC it was somewhere between €5-€6. I can't remember where I came across the price, though. I also vaguely remember seeing that other "Experiences" had them included. I think that Aurea did.
Proseccoandsun Posted October 21, 2017 #21 Share Posted October 21, 2017 I hope they're optional and not the new norm. I don't like wearing them when at amusement parks and museums - neither do my kids. I wouldn't want to wear them on formal night (or any night), at the pool and get a tan with it, etc...Cruise cards are easy. My husband always has a pocket to put mine in, lol. But I do hope it's a matter of choice on Seaside.

I don't think that they are optional for kids.
Proseccoandsun Posted October 21, 2017 #23 Share Posted October 21, 2017 We definitely prefer a paper thin cruise card in a pocket or purse to a bulkyish rubber wristband. Plus I wouldn't want to wear something with YC emblazoned on it...a bit tacky in my opinion. One thing it doesn't do is allow the lights to work in the cabin, that still needs a card , of some sort, in the slot.
TravelinGert Posted October 21, 2017 #25 Share Posted October 21, 2017 We had this as a free option on our first Royal Caribbean cruise but it wasn't available on the other 4 RC cruises we've done. Just my two cents but to me they're much preferable to the cards. If you don't want it on your wrist, you can easily hook it to a belt loop or around a strap. Waterproof, too so you never have to worry about leaving it when you go in to swim or sit in the hot tub. Just take it right in there with you.
