Questions Regarding MSC Seaside

There's an extensive selection of movies on demand in the cabins, but they're $8 each. TV channels include CNN International, Bloomberg Europe, CNBC, BBC World News, Euronews and a variety of foreign channels in other languages. (No word yet on whether this will change now that the ship is out of Europe.) Ship safety channels are also available in addition to channels for cruise info, food and beverage, excursions, the spa, the onboard shops and in-port shopping.

Can you book your excursions on the TV in the room?

Has anyone posted dailies from the Caribbean yet? I realize it's early! Specifically looking for Kids Club schedules, both BabyTime/BabyCare and the 6-12 age range club. We sail in a couple weeks. Thanks all!

Extensive Seaside child care schedule here.

There are from the Transatlantic but should reflect something in the neighborhood of what is experienced on Seaside in the Caribbean. If anyone has a child care schedule from a more recent Caribbean Seaside cruise please post a link for us. Thanks!

I’ve been following the progress of the Seaside for about 6 months now and this thread, and others like it have been invaluable.

With the YC booking I had right at the top of my budget, there were a few too many things about the new ship that didn’t quite fit my family’s wishes. So, after months of indecision, I decided to cancel.

I’m not mentioning this to be negative, but rather thank all the posters on this thread and others. Hearing about the good, along with the not so good, stuff helps one make informed decisions about how to spend their money. It’s the great thing about Cruise Critic.

Happy travelling everyone - regardless of what ship or holiday style you choose.

I also have a Casino question.

Is the table minimum $5?

Any craps tables?

Thanks

I have gotten confirmation from someone currently onboard, there are no Craps tables on the Seaside. Bummer.

We were with the Casino manager on the Divina, who was opening the casino on the Seaside, no craps, and there won't be any. Too much of a risk for the cruise line to take, and too much man power to run the table. Sorry, but as per him, there will never be any.

Safe sailing

NEW QUESTIONS THAT NEED ANSWERS

1. When is the Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle being scheduled?

2. Anyone done any of the arts and crafts in the Ipanema restaurant able to report back on what's on offer? Or was that only on the TA?

3. Are the doors and walls metal for magnet usage in all cabins?

Some have reported MSC is not allowing anything placed on outside of doors per post #199 of this thread. There are videos and pictures of decorated cabin doors on Seaside and it is allowed on other MSC ships so perhaps this is a temporary measure until they get organized better? Per post #205 of this thread some cabin stewards are allowing it for special occasions already. Post #245 reports cabin walls are metal.

4. What is stocked in the minibar?

So far I've only seen

of what is stocked in minibars in the YC on Preziosa.

5. What about the private elevator access to the spa from the YC which has been advertised extensively? I've read it isn't available on the Seaside.

Post #236 of this thread reports no there is not one on Seaside.

6. Any information about getting fresh flowers in your room? Several have been interested.

7. What about the movies in the cabins and on movie nights?

So far reported there are movies on demand for $8 in the rooms and they are numerous. No word yet on movies on the big screen over the pool.

8. Can we get a schedule for the younger kids care program from one of the Caribbean sailings?

9. Are they doing the "Happy Dinner" program where they pick up kids when they've finished their meal in the main dining room with their parents and let the parents finish up while the kids go play in the Kid's Club?

11. Can the TV's in the rooms be moved, extended, or swiveled for ease of watching throughout the room?

12. What is the table minimum in the Casino? Is it $5?

13. Can excursions be booked from the in room TV?

14. Dailies, Dailies, DAILIES, DAILIES? Can someone please post up the Dailies from their Caribbean cruise?

Yes, they have hair dryers. Yes, they work.

Yes, your stateroom host will replace towels.

No decorations are permitted on the outside of the door. I forget, but believe the interior portion of the door is metal.

Regarding the no decorations are permitted on the outside of the door thing. I've seen videos and pictures of several staterooms with decorations on the outside of the door. Wonder did they just put them up for the video or maybe not find out about this until later?

Le Boo!!! :( I hope they DO allow door decs for my Christmas cruise next year

Me, too! A Christmas cruise definitely calls for a bit of decoration.

I've already got some window clings I was planning to use on our door since our cruise will be over Valentines. They usually stick on the cabin doors well and come off without leaving any marks no problem.

Oh yeah! I didn't even think about Valentines Day decorations! I will get on that!

There will be a table number, time and dining room printed on your keycard. You can't just walk in each night and decide to dine with different people, unless you have flexible dining, which is only reserved for certain cabin types.

Does this fluctuate between Ipanema and Seashore restaurants? Is there a pattern to it? Do they have the same menus in each?

I believe walls in all cruise ship cabins are metal for safety. I did see a few decorated doors when I was onboard; as to whether or not it's officially allowed, I have no idea.

It's not the best shot, but here's a photo of a Seaside hair dryer. I have long, thick hair, and it got the job done but certainly isn't as powerful as one you'd use at home. It's also one of those ones where you have to hold in the button to keep it on while you're using it.

To clarify the question, I've read on this thread that you are assigned a dining room and a dinner time (we are Fantastica.) In the MSC for Me app, it shows Ipanema and Seashore as the two complimentary restaurants.

Does that mean Ipanema is one dining room and Seashore is the other? Do they serve the same menus in each? My other cruise experience is with Disney where they rotate Main Dining Rooms and it's a different menu/experience in each.

You are assigned to one of the two dining rooms. The menus are the same in each one. Only the décor is different between the two.

Don't know if in fact it's true or not, but would it not be par for the course for a line with a higher percentage of European clients where I believe the percentage of smokers is higher than the USA.

Fortunately we'll be up in the YC, unfortunately though baking in the sun because of a lack of umbrellas.

I was just going to say the same thing...Europeans seem to smoke more than Americans do these days.

The doors are metal, the walls are not. Several cabins have holiday decorations on their doors.

The kid's clubs do take kids to dinner. You have to drop them off at the club. Dinner is 7 p.m. each night. They then can stay with kids club until it closes, usually at 10:30 or 11 p.m.

Here are photos for mini club. I have other ages, but in the other cabin where people are still sleeping. Junior club (7-11 years) is pretty much the same stuff. 14625253e6f717f4b0f3a0865ffd24de.jpg4b93aa8fe1db41d62a2273f49812d1a9.jpg

Anyone have info about menus for the yacht club dining and opinions about the food ?

Read a thread here on CC where they said a lot of folks were getting fed up in the YC due to long wait times for food which arrives cold and improperly cooked. Don't know how prevalent that has been but the poster said they saw at least one table just get up and leave after waiting 15 minutes for food and ended up following after their food finally arrived cold and improperly cooked. Hopefully some others will weigh in as maybe that is something they're working on improving.

Oh, dear.

I've been reading everything I can, but I don't recall reading that. Do you remember where you read it?

Lots of variation reported here. Some have said doors metal on inside only no decoration on outside permitted but then many report decorating their outside cabin doors. Some have said only doors are metal not walls but then many others have said yes walls are metal. From watching videos and looking at pictures my best guess is the walls are metal but may be so covered by wood and other decor as to be unusable with magnets. The insides and oceanviews look to even have metal ceilings lower in the ship.

4. What is stocked in the minibar?

7. What about the movies in the cabins and on movie nights?

So far reported there are movies on demand for $8 in the rooms and they are numerous. Big screen movies have been mostly holiday fare with a few newer movies thrown in.

8. Can we get a schedule for the younger kids care program from one of the Caribbean sailings?

Thank you seaweeyin for posting these. I have rotated them to make them easier to read.

and

Welp great looks like imgur dot com is not allowed as an image hosting device for CC. If someone wants to download the above images and share them posted somewhere allowed by CC I will replace with links next time. Sorry. :( Or they can be viewed where seaweeyin has very kindly posted them in post #270 above just without being turned for easier viewing.

9. Are they doing the "Happy Dinner" program where they pick up kids when they've finished their meal in the main dining room with their parents and let the parents finish up while the kids go play in the Kid's Club?

Has been reported on several threads you drop your kids off prior to dinner and the staff takes them to the buffet to get plates of food. They eat in the kid's club and can stay until it closes around 10:30 or 11 PM.

11. Can the TV's in the rooms be moved, extended, or swiveled for ease of watching throughout the room?

The TVs swivel only.

12. What is the table minimum in the Casino? Is it $5?

13. Can excursions be booked from the in room TV?

MSC for me app reportedly works great for booking things. Conflicting reports as to whether it works without purchase of WiFi package so I don't know if this is an issue with certain phones or with certain people's abilities with their phones or what.

14. Dailies, Dailies, DAILIES, DAILIES? Can someone please post up the Dailies from their Caribbean cruise?

I have put up a separate thread requesting Dailies, MDR menus, and YC menus since these seem to be commonly requested everywhere I find threads about the Seaside.
