Rare CanadianBurger Posted December 12, 2017 Author #102 Share Posted December 12, 2017 Tried the Stromboli from Slices today. It was tasty, but had been sitting there for a while. Hot and fresh I’m sure it would have been excellent. And, of course, more pepperoni pizza. Sent from my iPhone 8+ using Forums

Rare foodsvcmgr Posted December 12, 2017 #106 Share Posted December 12, 2017 Great photos and details. Looks much nicer after the refurb than I expected. The anticipation is building with each post for our sailing in February. Thanks for your diligent hard work.
JF - retired RRT Posted December 13, 2017 #107 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Thanks Lou! Fascinating stuff! We knew our Headwaiter from a previous cruise. I asked (pleaded) nicely, and he asked the chef. Next night: Voila! Parmesan Basket! DH requested (didn't have to beg;)) on one of our cruises shortly after it was being poster here that the basket is gone. He got his basket...it didn't look as nice as they used to look, but ask and you shall receive. Rare CanadianBurger Posted December 13, 2017 Author #110 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Well, as dinner started, we began to leave the dock. Then the stern thrusters kicked into high gear and the whole dining room started to shake. About 30 seconds later the Captain came on the PA and said the winds were too strong for us to leave. We’re trying to get back to the the dock to tie up. The stern thrusters must be at full throttle. The shaking is getting worse. I assume it’s because the shallow rocks to starboard are too much of a hazard to leave. I took this shot on the way in this morning. satxdiver Posted December 13, 2017 #112 Share Posted December 13, 2017 The modern cruise ships are tall particularly in comparison to their depth (~30 feet) and flat sided. They are much like a sail that cannot be hauled in or turned. Therefore a strong wind against one side of the ship will pin the ship to the pier making their bow and stern thrusters inadequate The only solutions is to either wait for the wind to shift directions or die down or to use tug boats to assist the ship. Assuming that port does have tug boats available, from the picture they would not be able to position themselves along the ship to do any good. We have had several cruises where the captain announced that we were skipping the port due to the wind and not being able to leave port. The last time was in Key West. . coo359a2 Posted December 13, 2017 #114 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Has any reason been given for not having the afternoon and late evening Happy Hour? We had it this past June when the CB was doing the British Isles.

Rare CanadianBurger Posted December 13, 2017 Author #121 Share Posted December 13, 2017 I was disappointed with the Curtis Stone pork belly. It’s supposed to have a crackle and lots of meat (had it on two previous cruises) but this was basically a mushy lump of fat. Rare CanadianBurger Posted December 13, 2017 Author #122 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Further update: 12:50am, and we’re still tied up in Falmouth. I fear our stop in Cartagena is now in jeopardy. The winds are still howling. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare CanadianBurger Posted December 13, 2017 Author #123 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Went to the Piano Man production show after dinner. The music was great, toe-tapping along to the favorites everyone knows. The singing was good, and the dancers were okay. The most disappointing thing was the show’s length, only 33 minutes. After the production show, back to Crooners and the great music that Tommy McPhee performs on vocals and piano. A group of us ended up chatting and outlasting the bartenders! Rare CanadianBurger Posted December 13, 2017 Author #124 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Update: 1:55 am. Still tied up. Winds are 25-30 knots, according to the info channel on the TV. Looks like we’ll be here for a while yet. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare CanadianBurger Posted December 13, 2017 Author #125 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Winds gusting to 35 knots continued overnight, delaying our departure from Falmouth until 5:30 am. As a result, our call at Cartagena has been canceled, and we are proceeding directly to Panama. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
