Rare trbarton Posted January 6, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2018 I’m traveling out of Ft Lauderdale. Does one have to show ID when entering the port area? I’m using a Passport Card. Any Problems? Thanks! Tom😎
ltcal94 Posted January 6, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2018 There are some checkpoints as you enter the port area that ask for ID. The passport card is an acceptable form of ID so you won’t have any problems . Sent from my iPhone using Forums
easyboy Posted January 6, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2018 No problem as ID for entering the port area. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Thrak Posted January 6, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2018 Since a driver's license is sufficient ID to enter port areas a Passport Card is definitely OK. The card is a much better ID.
floridalover5623 Posted January 6, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2018 I didn't have to show anything entering the port area near terminal 2 in December. Nothing at all. It's changed from previous years where they use to require a passport or drivers license.
skynight Posted January 6, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2018 No ID required to enter terminal 2 or 4 area. I would not travel outside the U.S. without a passport. If you don't have a passport you can not fly home.

pablo222 Posted January 6, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 6, 2018 WOW! That is a BIG change! This changed in October 2015, just before the Ft. Lauderdale boat show -- so that the checkpoint would not be overwhelmed with convention center visitors. Several posters here like to argue and argue about it, as if it's butter. Here is a post from 30-December-2015 talking about the change: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=48619700&postcount=
pablo222 Posted January 6, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 6, 2018 Since a driver's license is sufficient ID to enter port areas a Passport Card is definitely OK. I had a rent-a-cop refuse to let me enter the port after showing a valid united states passport. He insisted that since I was driving, I could only show a drivers license. Why argue with idiots? No training, no clue, but lots of "I'm the boss" mentality.
floridalover5623 Posted January 7, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 7, 2018 WOW! That is a BIG change! Actually I think they do check ID if you're driving but anyone can walk in with no ID. I've never driven into the port area since parking is much to expensive.

Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted January 7, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 7, 2018 Not so sure how long that change lasted! :confused:We were sailing from terminal 2 in Feb 2017 and absolutely did have to show our Passport Book, Passport Card, or Driver's License before we could enter. It's still in effect if you enter from the entrance on 17th street. That is the security check point that was moved back so one can get to the convention center without going through security which is by Terminal 2 and 4. I just did the 12/3/17 Regal sailing from Terminal 2 and went in that entrance. You must have come through one of the other entrances to the port. We've alway gone through the main entrance as directed when passing the airport. No big deal for us. We have any ID they may want. :)
pablo222 Posted January 7, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) We've alway gone through the main entrance as directed when passing the airport. No big deal for us. We have any ID they may want. :) Ah. There are three entrances to the port. State Road 84, Eisenhower Blvd, and I-595/Eller Drive. If you entered on State Road 84, I'm sure you had to show ID. There has been no change there. This would be the closest entrance to the airport. We are speaking about the entrance on Eisenhower Blvd, entering from SE 17th Street. This is where the security checkpoint has been moved. If I were driving a cab from the airport, I would enter on SR84 as well. Tick-tock, I charge you for waiting in the security line. Maybe now we can get back to butter. Edited January 7, 2018 by pablo222

ONLY ONCE have I encountered an agent that insisted since I was driving that I MUST show my driver's license. I'm guessing it was the same agent. RandallFlagg Posted January 7, 2018 #21 Share Posted January 7, 2018 My Military ID has worked for years.;) :D I traveled all over the world (first as a dependent) then as an Active Duty member with just an ID card. However, that being said, after I got back from Viet Nam, I changed my MOS to 97B (Counter Intel) and RARELY wore my uniform again, THEN, I had to carry a passport. moki'smommy Posted April 28, 2018 #23 Share Posted April 28, 2018 On April 1, going to terminal 2 required no ID check at all. Going to terminal 19 did require an ID. Yes, the Princess rep on the phone directed us to the wrong terminal, so we had a nice ride around the port area.
