arm72 Posted January 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2018 I've been to Cococay and loved it. We are on a June 2018 Western Caribbean sailing on the Oasis. What can I expect at Labadee? How does it compare to Cococay?
breezy_carol Posted January 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2018 This is personal preference. I preferred Labadee. I thought the beach was nicer with more shade. We went all the way to the right - Columbus Cove? We just used the provided loungers and thoroughly enjoyed the day. The fact that you just walk out a pier is a plus. If you are interested in the activities, someone else will have to address that.
Ken at the beach Posted January 14, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2018 The beaches at CocoCay are much longer and you can walk out in the water quite a ways before it gets deep. They are also not as rocky.
Capt_BJ Posted January 14, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2018 same basic concept. a beach day that's an extension of the ship .... bar service and BBQ lunch come from the ship. Like Coco, Lab' has wave runners and parasailing avail' for $$. Lab' adds the zip line ($$) Dragon Coaster ($$) and a large 'native market' Overall Lab' is much larger, but you are probably arriving on a larger ship. No tenders at Lab (something that's changing at Coco) Coco has much better snorkeling from the beach ....
Redrobo Posted January 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Cococay is like Labadee used to be, before they turned it into a theme park.

New dock supposed to be completed sometime in the summer.
Clarea Posted January 15, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Cococay is like Labadee used to be, before they turned it into a theme park. Agree, and Coco Cay will be like Labadee soon after the pier is completed.
cb at sea Posted January 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Similar in that both are the "private beaches" for RCI, and it's like an extension of the ship. Labadee is larger and more built up. Both are lovely beach days!
CarpeCerevisi Posted January 15, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Agree, and Coco Cay will be like Labadee soon after the pier is completed. Yup, IMO they are slowly but surely ruining Cococay in the effort to squeeze every dollar out of it that they can. Sad, because Coco Cay was one of the nicest stops, with the ability to walk along the beach and still find uncrowded areas.
indie Posted January 15, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Been to both twice and really enjoy both, but to me Labadee is just much more beautiful. You can do activities or have a lazy day in paradise. I also love the local culture, bands and dancing and trams/ferry at Labadee. Columbus cove beach is awesome for wading in the water and swimming. I am looking at booking future cruises that include Labadee as my perfect free beach day.
OnTheJourney Posted May 9, 2018 #13 Share Posted May 9, 2018 Is there something on Cococay comparable to the Barefoot Beach on Labadee? Some sort of private beach for suite guests perhaps?
Merion_Mom Posted May 9, 2018 #14 Share Posted May 9, 2018 Is there something on Cococay comparable to the Barefoot Beach on Labadee? Some sort of private beach for suite guests perhaps? There is a separate Suite enclosure now, but I have not seen anything published about the renovations.

Clarea Posted May 9, 2018 #17 Share Posted May 9, 2018 Is there something on Cococay comparable to the Barefoot Beach on Labadee? Some sort of private beach for suite guests perhaps? Just an area that suite guests can use for the upgraded lunch, but the beach is for cabana guests.
OnTheJourney Posted May 9, 2018 #18 Share Posted May 9, 2018 So there is no private beach area, per se, that is designated for swimming for suite guests? When you say the beach is for cabana guests....does that mean that noone else can use it?

panzafit Posted May 9, 2018 #20 Share Posted May 9, 2018 When we went in April we had a cabana and only people in the cabana could use the roped off areas. Suite guests used the upgraded buffet in this area but weren't allowed to use the beach/water in that area. We had a regular room but rented a cabana. Friends of our had a suite but didn't rent a cabana and they weren't allowed to use the beach or swim in that area.
OnTheJourney Posted May 10, 2018 #21 Share Posted May 10, 2018 What a crappy deal. So what do they charge for a cabana?
Clarea Posted May 10, 2018 #22 Share Posted May 10, 2018 What a crappy deal. So what do they charge for a cabana? Varies by location/type. The most expensive is over $500 now.
Rare brillohead Posted May 10, 2018 #23 Share Posted May 10, 2018 What a crappy deal. So what do they charge for a cabana? There are PLENTY of other beach areas... you don't have to pay for a cabana to be allowed to use the rest of the island/water.
Rare island lady Posted May 10, 2018 #24 Share Posted May 10, 2018 Coco Cay is changing dramatically...like they did to Labadee...to "Theme Park Island". :o:eek:
