Coffeeluvr05 Posted June 26, 2018 #51 Share Posted June 26, 2018 I'm disappointed that I was able to get the drink package added to 2 of my cruises but I don't drink. They said no OBC was offered at this time. I have the elite/ suite perk mini bar which gets me 40 diet cokes and the suite comes with 2 bottles of water daily. Wasted $2000 on a 15 day cruise. I believe you can get a substantially lower rate if you call a TA and ask for the no-perks fare. I know it exists because it was offered to me on a 14 day in Fall 2019. PoohUnderstands Posted June 26, 2018 #53 Share Posted June 26, 2018 Yeah, I noticed that too. I figured it meant you get no perks of the upsold/upgraded cabin. I don’t think I’d take an upsell then. No what it is saying is the sip n'sail is only for balcony cabins and above. If you originally purchased an inside and were upgraded to balcony or above either free or by upsell, you would not then get this sip n'sale. If you went from an inside to a suite(oh, don't I wish!) you would get all the suite amenities, just not the sip n'sail. Pooh

cruzsnooze Posted June 26, 2018 #55 Share Posted June 26, 2018 (edited) How did you waste $2000, if it was added for free? If you don't drink the package includes bottled water, specialty coffee, smoothies, fountain sodas and more. Because I feel I've PAID for an expensive, optional, amenity I cannot use. If you don't think it was built into the fare you're mistaken. Nothing is free on a cruise, some things are included because they are built into that fare. PoohUnderstands Posted June 26, 2018 #56 Share Posted June 26, 2018 Thanks!!:D could this be the rate difference I am seeing when I look up cruises without logging in. If I then log in the rates for the cruises I am looking at go down by $200pp. I realize when I haven't logged in when I see the higher prices! IIRC, with past sales, they could sub an OBC for the drink package. I'm not seeing that option. I guess is doesn't matter much for us since our cabin class is sold out and we booked when they were offering those large OBC's. I would have pursued this offer if it looked like we could save a few bucks (maybe they'd allow a cancel and rebook??) but from what I can tell, I'd be netting out at a higher fair- unless I wanted that drink package (14 day Med Cruise)

Call to see if your sailing has the Saver Fare rate code KRA . If it does you should save a great deal on cruise fare without the S & S perks . Nothing is free on a cruise, some things are included because they are built into that fare. There is always one or more promos running at any given time - you need to go with the one that suits you best. Princess just concluded several promos which were heavy on OBC but no drink package and the price was pretty much the same. I had a casino rate for a 15 day cruise in Oct 2019. I chose to give up the $400 casino promo to get the $1,000 + drink promo because we tend to enjoy wine with meals, cocktails before dinner, cocktails after dinner, several bottles of water a day, coffee drinks etc.so the free drink package actually costs us around $25 a day once we lose the casino deal but that still makes it a bargain for us. Only one promo allowed at a time
firecrewcapt Posted June 26, 2018 #61 Share Posted June 26, 2018 Congrats to all the balcony folks on being able to add S&S, here's one catch, we are booked on a Jan. 2020 Antarctica cruise that is eligible for S&S, but when I called to see if I could add it I was told NO, our cabin category is "Sold Out". My option was lose my Casino rate and book a higher category balcony and pay $1425/pp more to get the promo. Moral of the story, as long as there's cabins available in you current category you can add it on with no charge. If someone cancels their cabin in our category we then could add the promo. Between coffee in the am., water during the day, a cocktail by the pool or a glass of wine with lunch, occasional pre dinner cocktail, wine with dinner and occasional night cap we don’t drink the daily value of the drink package but we drink lots more than the cost of gratuities. And on a long cruise, that is really beneficial! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

JC13 Posted June 27, 2018 #70 Share Posted June 27, 2018 Well, well, the S & S did not come up on a cruise I wanted to rebook, however I was able to rebook at a savings of over $800.00, While I did lose some OBC, which if I kept the original cruise price I was basically paying myself my own OBC so this was an easy decision. I received a lower price, dining for 2, OBC, and a great midship balcony cabin. My FCC moved right over, covered the new deposit, and now I am a more than delighted cruiser! Just have to keep in mind that a lower price for me is much better than increased OBC since often so many times we end up paying for our own OBC. Thrak Posted June 27, 2018 #71 Share Posted June 27, 2018 Noticed that this S&S sale does not include a specialty dinner which was included the last 2 years (at least with mini and full suites) They did have that last year if you booked within the first few weeks or something of the sip & sale if I recall correctly. We booked 2 cruises under the last Sip and Sail. 28 days and 14 days. Neither came with specialty dining. We were in balcony cabins.

Nothing is free on a cruise, some things are included because they are built into that fare. Most cruises didn't have a price increase for this promo. However, many went up dramatically a while before the promo. We didn't take the Landmark Sale because our cabin went up by $1,200. With the Sip and Sail it didn't go up more but it had already increased by such a huge amount the promo is worthless to us anyway.

Well, it’s true that you cannot combine one promo with another, so I’m not surprised that you were told you’d lose your Casino rate. But for others, don’t fret just because your cabin category is sold out. My category was also sold out when I called this morning. The first gal put me on hold and got a supervisor because she knew it could be done. It took the supervisor about 10 min but she was finally successful. Same cabin, same fare, new promo! Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted June 27, 2018 #74 Share Posted June 27, 2018 We booked 2 cruises under the last Sip and Sail. 28 days and 14 days. Neither came with specialty dining. We were in balcony cabins. Found the old announcement. It was an early booking promo for the Sip & Sale that included a speciality dining bonus if you booked before July 5, 2017 for mini-suites and suites. Jmanly Posted June 27, 2018 #75 Share Posted June 27, 2018 We seldom drink, and they won't substitute OBC for the beverage package so my agent booked the Saver fare. For 19 day Panama Canal 04/2020, the price for 2 was $2400 less than S&S. Sent from my SM-G955U using Forums mobile app
