If you have a suite in Equinox (or other celebrity ships), what can you expect out of your butler? What can you utilize him/her for?

They can do more or less anything reasonable! I suspect we are not very demanding of ours - but they bring food / snacks if asked. We like salty nibbles when getting dressed for dinner so they are always there. One (I am under strict instructions not to own up to who he was or on what ship) launched a sneak raid on the Murano's cheese plate for me one year. Deal with the laundry. Run messages between groups. Arrange catering / drinks for parties. On Connie a couple of years ago we were with my mother who was unwell. The network of butlers kept a massive eye on her and I could find out where she was and what she was doing just by asking one. They will sort dinner reservations, and bring drinks to the reserves suite seating in the theatre. My sister got ours to let her into our suite one year so she could decorate it for a surprise party - I'm fairly sure the butlers and stewards got involved in that one.

We tend to use the Michael's club concierge to sort out any issues with excisions, to arrange priority exit, helipads etc. But I suspect the butlers might have a hand in that. Also make friend with your senior cabin steward. They know how you like beds made, pillow chocs, toiletries etc. (Although I suspect the Butler would sort that too!)

The only thing we never cracked was getting everyone's breakfast order right on the tiny sheet they give you for room service! We always got the right things - just sometimes on the wrong plates.

"senior cabin steward"

Celebrity no longer has an assistant cabin steward, there is only the one steward maintaining your room.

There is still a butler, of course, in suites. But I have heard it described : the steward takes care of the stateroom, the butler takes care of you.

Yet another reason to sail on an S class ship. Boy, do I miss Normandie, etal.

Our butler on Summit did arrange some cheese (sans Epoisses) or shrimp plates,

We have had good butlers, one excellent butler and mostly just so-so butlers. It has not mattered what type of suite we were in ( SS, CS, or RS). In June our butler (CS) was nice but could never remember that we wanted ice delivered each afternoon. Other than extra clothes hangers that was our only request the whole cruise. I wouldn't set my expectations too high though you might get lucky!

Sorry yes I was talking about suites. Only suites have a butler. I don't know about sky suites but CS and above have a Bulter and a cabin steward. In the RS you get a butler and 2 stewards.

I remember asking for extra hangers one cruise.... we could have made a hanger sculpture out of them!! I only wanted 2 or 3... there must have been 30 or so.

I believe in the RS and the PH you still only get one cabin steward and one butler. Celebrity no longer assigns 2 cabin stewards to any cabin, irregardless of level. At least that has been my experience of late.

We were on Millie Jan 2017 and March 2018. We were in Sky Suites both time on deck 6. When Celebrity added the SM (suite manager) they reduced the butler by 1 or 2 on deck 6. I think one butler per side. In 2017 they had 2 butlers on the starboard side. One butler had suites 6116 to 6130 the other had suites 6132 to 6148. When we cruised in March 2018 the butler had suites 6116 to 6148.

Fair enough. Our last cruise was 10 months ago. 10 more days 'till the next!

I know they have now introduced a second level to the Michael's club concierge specifically for PH & RS - it will be interesting to see how that works.

You are correct the RS and PH also only have a single cabin steward as well.

To answer the OP's original question. Your Butler is there to take care of you and your Stateroom attendant is there to take care of your room.

Your butler works with the MCC and Suites manager to take care of your needs including making specialty dining reservations, shore excursions, escorts you to special suites seating on the Chic nights in the theater. They also serve tea daily in MC but if you prefer they will bring it to your room. Your butler also handles your laundry, shoe shining and brings breakfast or other meals you may need. In the RS and Penthouse they also keep your refrigerator stocked.

When overnighting in the final port we have often left a day early and the butler also takes your luggage down on a hotel like cart and escorts you off the ship and onto the shuttle bus.

When I have experienced problems with items in our room (air conditioner not working, bathtub clogged, TV Remote not working) the Butler also arranges to have these items taken care of.

Can you clarify what you mean by second level?

A new position was introduced over a year ago. Suite Manager, the MCC and butlers report to the SM. The SM has responsibility for all suites but they seem to be more visible to the PH, RS passengers but the MCC still handles things for them as well. This is my experience.

Suites Manager was new and very visible on our 7 day August 2017 cruise on Millennium to Alaska. Fast forward to February 2018 on Silhouette for 11 dats where we never met him. Both times we were in a Royal Suite. Wondering what our next cruise on Reflection will bring.

Our Butlers have all been good with some being more memorable than others but all with an "A" grade.

We are always in a Sky Suite and butlers have been hit or miss. We do not ask for much- pitcher of iced tea in afternoon, Diet Coke and mainly GF snacks in afternoon. Last cruise he was terrible. We had seen the Suite Manager several times, she actually approached us first to ask how everything was. We told her our concerns with butler (also made sure to point out his good attributes). Nothing ever changed. Even after she asked us again about the issues. I just hope we do not get him next month!
