Pros and Cons on a Carnival Journey 14 day cruise?

The con for me is the work waiting for me when I return.

This is why I get the intenet package - it's easier for me to go through my e-mail while I'm away than deal with them all at once when I get home, whether it's a 7-day cruise or longer. It doesn't take much time from my vacation. And if I see something that really should be addressed - well, that's when the "forward" e-mail option comes in.:D

We loved ours but I'm over 50 and was one of the younger ones on the ship. The area outside of the MDR looked like a Hoveround convention at dinner time. ;)

did that mean the sidewalks rolled up early? I am not a real partier, but I don't intend on going to bed early either. And can't spend too much time in the casino unless I am winning.

Generally do 7 days but have done 21 day transatlantic, 14 day Med and will do 14 day Panama Canal in January.

 

PC will be on Freedom and it has a self service laundry, so for those who mentioned laundry expense, that is lessened by the W/D.

 

Relaxing, more chances to try all the different restaurants and menu items, more ports, more dressy nights if you like that, really a chance to decompress if you have to go back to work and it really is a pleasure to know it does not end in a week.

 

Yes more gratuity costs and port costs but with the cost of a 14-21 day cruise, those expenses are miniscule.

 

My husband prefers balcony rooms to sit outside while I take advantage of every activity

If you drive to the port your parking costs will be higher. Other than that, I see no downside!

Yup, I'd agree, especially #1. We have our 3rd Journey cruise booked now.

We enjoyed our Journeys cruise for all of the “pros” listed above. Although I would not say I was ever bored, because I love to read and read some more, I did get a little stir crazy by the last day. We had an inside room because it was a “free” cruise offer from the casino and an extra unplanned for vacation that year, so I decided we could only go if we stuck with the inside room that was offered. I did not mind the inside room but found it really easy to sleep in too much or get off schedule with no real sense of time passing when I was in the cabin. We were one of the younger couples on the ship and I was around 50 at the time. That was neither pro or con. I chuckled at the comment about a hoveround commercial. There was one particularily crazy mean elderly woman that intentionally ran her scooter into people and cursed at them and yelled at everyone. Everybody knew her name by the end of the cruise. It was pretty funny once everyone learned to jump out of the way. She would ram full speed into crowded elevators as soon as the doors opened and then yell at people she ran over. We took the stairs more on that trip than nay ither. :-) It was a fun trip while it was happening, but the second it was over I missed my animals and my own bed. It would have been great if we lived at a port city, but we had to fly home from San Juan to chicago and then drive another three hours home. That was the only real CON. I was ready to BE home the second we started getting ready for disembarking the night before. Disembarking in San Juan was a mess and a half.

The pros of taking a 14 day cruise versus a 5 or 7 day is everything, and the negatives are nothing. That is an odd question. The only real con is it's going to cost more and you'll need more time off of work .......

 

This is my opinion as well... and when I think about it.. more time off work is not a con. ;)

Journey cruises tend to be expensive, be sure to price your per person per night cost vs. other longer cruises like TAs and ones on other lines.

 

 

Long cruise con - pet boarding cost and you will miss them :), arrange for bills to get paid, car is parked for longer, need to pace yourself on the food and alcohol. Be sure to get insurance and carry lots of your meds if needed.

 

pro- very relaxing, only have to travel to port once vs twice for two vacations, you will get to know the staff and fellow cruisers better.

 

 

If you love cruising, you will be fine. If you love ports and land trips, there may be an issue.

hi there, I have been on a few 7 and 5 day Carnival Cruises. Can anyone share (non-obvious) pros and cons on taking a Carnival Journey 14 day cruise? Or any tips on taking a longer cruise? Thanks for your time. Cheers!

 

My sweet hubby just doesn't like cruising. He feels claustrophobic and is a type A and must be going at all times. He doesn't find enough to entertain him. I can find contentment in finding a quiet corner and reading a book. I guess it depends on how you adjust to sea days versus do you need adventure and a different port everyday?

I did this before I booked the Feb. 1, 2020 Panama Canal cruise on the Carnival Miracle. I sail solo, and having to pay the single supplement, cost is probably my #1 consideration. I did comparisons of price per night for full-transit cruises around the same time on Holland America, Celebrity, and Princess, and Carnival came out on top.

Longer cruises MAY be more expensive, but not always. I can't speak for Carnival, but we just booked a TA on RCCL, next Nov 2019, inside cabin, mid ship for $1200 and change for two, including all taxes. Yes we have to fly to Barcelona and home from Tampa, but the price simply cannot be beat for a 14 day cruise.

For people who like lots of sea days, TAs can be a great deal. Tack on a few days at either end so you can justify paying airfare to or from Europe, and you have yourself a nice vacation.

Negs:

-The normal 7 day entertainment is stretched out to 14 days, leaving less to do.

- Diamond / Platinum make up the majority of the ship, making their priority lines longer. Likewise, Golds and below may be mocked for holding up excursions.

- Passenger frustration about halfway through, especially when all the exciting ports are done. Profanity, line cutting, pushing and shoving on the lido deck becoming common place by day 14.

- Sicknesses running amok. Expect it, and some may be all too willing to help spread the love by coughing and sneezing on each other, or grabbing food in the buffet with snotty hands.

 

I would rather do two 7 Day cruises B2B.

Depends on the port and what you're doing. My wife did a large private excursion in Limon, Costa Rica. It even became scheduled by the cruise line, but most of the platinum and diamonds got off the ship early with priority status. When they got to the buses:

 

"You're holding up our trip!"

"They're Gold. I can't believe they let Golds on this cruise."

"Journey Cruises are for higher teir people."

 

One woman stood up as her elderly father was getting mocked. "Leave my Dad alone! We were all Gold once."

 

That's all we personally saw of status entitlement, but all our other excursions were through the cruise line, leaving at set times. Others we talked to, claimed to see snobbery on the ship.

I respectfully disagree, 110%

 

Unless you are doing a TA where no new entertainment can get onboard during the crossing, you get new entertainment all the time. Can't say it will be good or not, but that's the same on any cruise.

 

Yes, there will be more upper tier people on board, but I have NEVER had any of them look down their noses at me for only being Gold. There are some 'snooties' in every category, but why criticize a group for no reason. And How do Golds hold up excursions? That's a new one

 

Once again, why are the 'exciting' ports done at the beginning.

You've got to be kidding, right. So longer cruises make people, who would normally be nice and kind, into some sort of wild animal that has lost all manners, spouts profanity and shoves everyone out of the way. Right? Just because they are on a longer cruise. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

And last, sickness is dominant on longer cruises. And you explain this by what reasoning? People on 7 day cruises don't cough and sneeze and then use the utensils on the Lido deck? Or is it that after 7 days people just can't stifle their sneezes anymore and walk around with boxes of Kleenex tied to their waists.

 

I get it, you don't like any cruise longer than 7 days, but don't belittle those that do. Your exaggerations are really ridiculous.

I just have a quick question. On the journeys cruises what dances are taught on 1987 retro days, what stage of the cruse is retro days, and if they also teach 50s' dances, which ones? I am hypothyroid and always manage to keep weight down with meds, strict diet and excerIcise. But then I got breast cancer, gained weight from the meds, and also on other meds that I take to stay in remiison. In the middle of this I broke my leg, ankle, foot, and tore the ligaments [those "tripping on carpet fibers bone breaks-ers" are rough.] which caused me to gain even more. My weight has almost doubled. I am now feeling okay to really move and lose some of this load of fat, and I thought it would be fun to learn some of the dances early as I am a very slow learner, and, I think it would be fun. I heard somewhre about the 'slide" and the 'safety dance" as 2 of the dances. Are those right and are there more?
