Platinum Diamond party questions

My husband and I are turning platinum in December and I was just wondering a few things about the platinum diamond party.

What happens during the party? What kind of food is there? What kind of drinks are available (anything off of the standard menu or just wine or something?) when does it usually take place?

Any information is welcomed. I'm not expecting much, but I wouldn't mind popping in and getting a free cocktail if that is possible :)

Thanks!

They usually come around with a tray of drinks - wine, rum punch (AKA Funship Specials), beer... I usually ask for a glass of champagne, DH asks for something, sometimes a Screwdriver, sometimes a Bloody Mary. When they come we usually tip the waiter a couple of dollars, they always come back soon to check to see if we're ready for another. Last time they brought me 2 at a time after the first one.

Snacks on the last couple of cruises have been sushi, some kind of BBQ on a small roll, and something else I can't remember.

They have a couple of 'games' - how many candies in the jar, name the ship from pictures, things like that, and there's a video that shows all the ships, everyone claps for the ones they've been on. I've been to parties in the main show lounge and also in small club venues - last cruise there were less than 30 at the P/D party, smallest number I've seen.

You can often, but not always, tell which passengers do and don’t have the Cheers package by how much they drink at the party. I always find that amusing to watch.,..i.e watching people put down drink after drink in a short time period. They also give out small plaques to the winners of the games previously mentioned in a prior post.

There were over 700 plus DA's and Plat's on a recent Vista cruise , managed to salvage a drink and a partial seat .

Was this the September 8 sailing? We were on there. Found a comfy table upstairs where we could not see the stage well but were near the door where the staff brought in the food. We were offered more than we could eat or drink up there. One of the officers stopped and told us terrible jokes on his way out. It was the first P/D party I enjoyed, actually. We frequently forget and do not even get there. Promised ourselves we would make it this time.

Over the years the Diamond Platinum party Hors d'oeuvres have gotten better. It appears there are less D&P's on shorter 5 & 6 day cruises, then the 7 & 8 day cruises.

Since we all have Priorty status at embarkation you may first meet some folks while waiting to board the cruise and not see them again until the D & P Party.

Congratulations on reaching the Platinum status. The only way to get your Platinum Card is by earning it.

Wish they would make some changes to the format' date=' been this one for too long.[/quote']

If I remember correctly, the video was different at my last party. Rest of the format was the same.

I won the plaque! For matching the ships to the pictures. Got a free picture with the Captain.

Yup , I noticed you guys up there and knowing how the view was decided to stay put. But still in this situation you guys had the better seating ;)

Actually we had seats ,but when I went to judge the ships our seats were taken. I cannot tell you what happen to the invitations I left in the seats . Bunch of cut throat thirsty individuals :D is all I can say .

Doing our next one in two weeks and hope to see some changes. Evolving over time would be good.

Don't think you will be seeing any changes ' date=' still the same ole ,same old ship flashing across the screen . Cheer for your ship kind of things . Everyone goes mad and start clapping . Imagine that a bunch of Plats and Dia's clapping for their ships. It's hysterical. At one time, the invite cards were collected at the door, placed in a drum, and a few cards were picked out for prizes, no more.

The food is usually some sushi rolls, canapes, sometimes shrimp, tiny pulled pork sliders, etc. Most attendees are there for the drinks though. Lately, the cutoff is about 1/2 hour, although the party can last 45 or 50 minutes.

Never been a fan over the food served at these parties, waiters usually happy to get you drinks to request especially if you hand them a few bucks.

Wish the captain would speak longer about what is going on but usually they will speak for a minute or two as command of English is limited in most cases.

Their command of English is fine, it’s the accent that can make it hard to understand.

Never seen contests at a D/P party, only at the larger Diamond only parties.

The pulled pork buns are fine, the shrimp tarts are ok.

Congrats on turning Platinum! The parties vary from ship to ship (and depending on the number of Platinums and Diamonds on board). On the Fantasy earlier this month, there were few enough that the party was held in the Forum Aft Lounge - not the main theatre - and there was plenty of room for everyone. Last sea day, I believe?

Folks here have already shared what types of food was served, and same with beverages. I ordered some white wine, and tipped the server a few dollars. I didn't want for a cocktail the rest of the party. :D So you can take what is offered on the servers tray, or order whatever you want - just be aware it may take longer if you order something different.

They also had a number of contests - match the baby photo with the staff member, guess the number of candies in the jar, etc. They also gave small plaques to the individual with the most cruises, the youngest diamond/platinum member, etc, and took photos of each of those people with the senior staff.

And of course, as mentioned, the short video of all of the Carnival cruise ships where they encourage you to cheer for which ones you've sailed on. And early and late in the party, one of the musicians will be on stage to provide entertainment.

I think they're always a good time, and try to attend. Hope you enjoy your cruise and your party!

The premier parties are much better - better server ratio, better quality and more plentiful food, much more liquor flowing. The food at the premier parties seem to be about steakhouse quality, and the platinum+ is better than Lido or MDR quality food, but not as great as premier. The entertainers are usually the same at both premier and platinum+ parties. Main difference is premier parties are at the beginning of the cruise, platinum+ near the end in my experience. Premier gifts are also better than platinum+ logo gifts.

I still don’t understand why I never get any invites to anything premier related. Earlier this month I lost $25 in the casino on Victory and lost another $25 in the casino on Magic in July.

It is hilarious and I dont remember which ones i was on. lol. Ok some I do. It is interesting to see who the BIG cruiser is. Last one had 582 days. Does that mean he is almost a triple Diamond? I have two grandkids in grade school. They are almost platinum now. They love Camp Ocean. Ever notice how the managers run????? lol
