Chance of Upgrade at Port?

If there is a sign on the check-in counter "SHIP SAILING FULL - abandon hope all ye upgrades" or something to

that effect on an outside probable chance the answer is some certain terms is "NO"! - LOL !

OK not funny - "ASK if there is a possibility of upgrading from what you have to what you want"

You will never know unless you "ASK".

Now about that sign on the counter be it at registration before getting on board or while on board visiting

Guest Services - NCL is no doubt serious if it is posted.

Odds typically are not good. By the time you get to port, they already have passenger manifest, lifeboat capacity assignments, etc. Each muster station can only accommodate a certain number of people for their lifeboats... Even if a room in that station is available, it doesn't mean there is capacity to move you there because there may already be excessive 3 or 4 passenger cabins within that station.

Still, it never hurts to ask but don't get your hopes up.

BTW, what are you trying to go from and too? $800 sounds like a minimum bid on a suite of some kind. I definitely would not expect to get upgraded at the pier to a suite.

We are sailing on the Sky to Cuba. Old ship. No balcony rooms can accommodate 4. We have Family Picture Window but going to be mighty tight with us and two teens!! Yes. Suite would be our only option.

OK ask about the possibility of an inside cabin across or adjacent to your present location - 2 cabins offer better

space living conditions notably 2 bathrooms and bedding. Age restrictions may dictate having adult age occupant

in each cabin - but there are ways to work that out.

Two Balconies may blow the budget for the cruise.

While the SKY is indeed an older ship - getting a suite is almost like a double cabin so 4 would work - hopefully

you would not encounter the previous mentioned issue of capacity of cabins and life boats.

While the situation does look bleak - "ASK" there maybe a last minute cancellation - someone missed a flight

or other calamity - make it known that you are seeking a solution and appreciate any help -

suggest that you do this first thing checking-in and on board.

If you don't speak up nothing will happen.

So I can't justify a $800 upgrade for a 4 day cruise. Any chance of getting an upgrade at the POM?

Nope. NCL does not bother with upgrades.

The people at POM don't work for NCL. They are port agents with the limited ability to swipe your passport and credit card and go find keys in a box.

On board, Guest Services has a permanent sign saying that the ship is full and no room changes will be accommodated.

Otherwise, they would have 2000-4000 people in line, every cruise, getting angry for the slowness of service, trying to see if they can get an upgrade.

From what I’ve read here, it can’t happen at the port, because it’s not staffed by NCL personnel. It won’t happen on the ship because they have signs that say they are sailing full and because the upgrade process fills the higher level cabins.

Now, you can spend your first day standing on the long line on board at guest services to pursue this. You will join the hordes of people with their day one problems (cash account issues, non-working room cardkeys, etc.) Then you can join the complainers about these long lines and the slow customer service on board.

So my nice guy - give it a try "ASK" is being shot down by seasoned combat cruise veterans.

Ignore that man (me) behind the curtain !

Pay no attention to those signs - what signs - best realize that trying for an upgrade may be another

Tom Cruise event "Mission Impossible" !

Time for PLAN "B2.5" !

Suggest you look at biting the bullet and get another cabin - any cabin - 4 in anything less than a suite

is a recipe for never booking another cruise maybe forever.

4 in a cabin can be akin to warm bunking in a WW2 submarine one bath shower for all on board.

Radical heck YES - so go ahead and execute PLAN "B2.5" or whatever option(s) you may have.

You want more cabin - upgrading is not in the cards - buy anything that is left before there is none !
