Edge Suggestion Box - Feedback and suggested improvements from your Edge voyage

Since there have been a few Edge sailings now, a lot of great trip reviews and pictures and all kinds of information from actual passengers is scattered over these boards.  I think it would be helpful to ask Edge-experienced passengers for a few quick thoughts here on what they might do to improve Edge or the Edge experience.  Hopefully Celebrity will monitor this thread.  We all know about the improvements needed on balcony furniture for example.  What else comes to mind?  Optional- please list your sailing date, cabin type and number.  Thanks so much for helping the rest of us waiting to sail on Edge!

Wow! Loved the decor, color flow, and plentiful seating areas. Our Infinite Veranda 6278 with bed near closet had lots of storage behind seamless doors including cubbies and shoe bins, room beneath the bed for all luggage,  a mid room dresser with 3 drawers divided into 6 sections, and an efficient closet with lots of hangers, an upper and lower area to hang tops/jackets and a narrow section for long items. The closet safe was convenient. The bathroom had great storage but towel hanging space was lacking. The shower was ample in size with no leakage onto the floor. The veranda seating was comfortable and well constructed. There was a round white table/tray and a separate reversible stool which we didn’t use. The climate controls were efficient with “morning and evening “ settings and handy buttons at the base of each lamp. No need for a plug adapter with the “international” charger box” mid room and two additional bedside USB ports. The Oceanview    Cafe had great food and many seating choices inside and out for breakfast and lunch. We had sushi for lunch after embarkation at Raw on Five. They had no oysters so our desserts were complimentary. The main restaurants were gorgeous with good choices. We reserved the Cosmopolitan, Cyprus, and Tuscan rooms beforehand, but no restaurant was ever full and lines were minimal. Eden was so beautiful, but the evening entertainment was so creepy that we had drinks elsewhere. It was a high class Halloween party on steroids. Costumed characters appeared as we entered and invited us to sit, but we left since we don’t care for interactive entertainment. We loved the energetic Hype show at 9:15 the first night, but Jewel Box on the last night was a strange rendition of CS Lewis with characters imported from Eden.

Pool? divine, with plenty of seating in neighboring areas.

We sailed on the Edge as invited guests Nov. 25 - 27. Our cabin was a C3 #12242.

The Infinity verandah was quite small and from the bedroom it had a "tunnel" feel to it.

I have bet my wife that Eden won't last; more attuned to Carnival than Celebrity.

Having all information on an app worked well for my wife because she carries her phone everywhere. I only carry my cruise card when cruising. One big improvement on the app would be to include the operating hours of the restaurants etc. To get that info now you have to click on all the individual restaurants .

Dividing the main dining room into four different venues is a great idea. Virtually no lines and service was less harried and rushed.

We thought the food was back to the high standard we first experienced on Celebrity 15 years ago. We have been underwhelmed with the food quality on Celebrity for the last 3 - 4 years but we thoroughly enjoyed our dining on the Edge.

The staff were all extremely courteous and helpful.

Just back from the 12/1 three-day preview:

- We'd love to see an Asian stir fry station in the buffet. We really missed that.

- We liked the handwashing sinks in Oceanview Cafe and used them every time, but the vast majority of people didn't. I think the ship needs to add Purell stations up there, or there's going to be a noro outbreak. Too many people are skipping handwashing.

- People shouldn't be allowed to have drinks in the pool. Empty glasses and aluminum cans floating in the pool is gross.

- Eden is strange. Not our cup of tea, but maybe others will enjoy it.

All in all, we loved the ship!

Couple questions regarding the balcony.  Did you like it better than a normal one or is it too confining?  When you close the inner glass doors and open the outer balcony window, does the AC stay on or is it only off when all the windows/doors are open?  Is the privacy screen like a curtain?  Looks like it is on the railing window?  Seems a little strange in the evening.  Does it feel like you are sleeping with the balcony "in the cabin" and get the "tunnel" feeling as you describe?  I'm 50/50 on this new concept.  Thank you!

Just back from the 12/1 sailing. We thought the ship and our Infinite Veranda cabin were beautiful. That being said , they have some work to do to win us back.

About 50 of us failed to read the fine print that our sea passes would not be loaded with drinks the first day, showing up to an empty - The Club. Instead there would be a welcome party at 7:15 where we could have our Captains Club drinks. Only problem was that on a 3 night sailing on a brand new ship , most were either at dinner or a show during that time. Or exploring. Some ordered drinks after being told by guest relations to go there for their CC drinks. Man were they mad when they were handed the bill. The next night in the Grand Plaza it took 20 minutes or more to get served due to understaffing. Same on day 3.

Our internet experience was equally underwhelming. Repeatedly messages or photos would not load. We met with the Internet person who opened a ticket for our two cabins to resolve the slow or sometimes non existent internet. We never heard back and the wifi was poor right up until we left this morning. He explained that Royal uses a different company and different satellites when I asked why the wifi was so much better on Quantum/Oasis class ships.

There were multiple times when a crew member had the chance to excel when handling a special request and just didn't. Not because they couldn't but just because they event been trained to make service a priority apparently. Dinner in Normandie was just ok. Rooftop Garden Grill had no flatbreads (even though listed on the menu in the app and online when I booked)and the entrees were just ok. I was shocked at the quality of the apple/cherry pie dessert there. For a specialty restaurant , really unacceptable. Tuscan was a better experience and the service at the three restaurants we tried was good.

Hopefully the food and service issues outside the restaurants will improve. The Captains Club benefits should not have to be a fight to enjoy. And the stipulations for things like your 4.00 speciality coffee (has to be ordered in a specialty restaurant) should be removed. Was thinking on NCL we enjoy a status similar to our Elite on Celebrity. We are given two specialty dining opportunities, free internet and laundry, bottle of wine,2 bottles of water, chocolate covered strawberries etc.

Anyway - some honest suggestions for making Edge better. Hope someone is listening...

I actually did get sick, more than likely from the limited use of washing stations.  I was in bed all day of day 3 and have been in bed all day today too.

Sorry, I have not been on the ship... but I do have an idea for IV cabins. If they could place a acrylic tray in the drawer under the sink.... this could be used for women to place their makeup... in turn this could be carried to the movable vanity table and then replaced under sink when done. I carry my stuff in a couple of zipper bags. The problem is that what ever I need is always at the bottom. Rather than having to bring an organizer along... a small tray would make it easier to retract the vanity table... and have a way to easily take stuff from their and put it someplace.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions and feedback so far- much appreciated.  Let's keep it going but looking a bit more for suggestions over reviews here which can be found elsewhere.  For example, I have seen the suggestion of including a small portable table with folding sides for use on the IV balconies.  And of course curtains/shades to block the light if one guest wants to use the IV balcony while another is still sleeping.  And maybe a simple laminated card in the room with instructions for all of the electronic controls?  What would you actually suggest to Celebrity- assuming they read this thread- to improve Edge, or in the future Apex?

The older verandahs have Perspex glass side walls which allows light and a sense of openness; the Edge IV's have solid walls thus the tunnel effect.

We never closed the inner bi-fold doors so don't know if the AC remains on.

The privacy is a curtain which divides the room from the verandah.

I was wondering if they could keep a replacement table top that is larger.... someplace in the cabin for use when ordering room service. Perhaps it could be an art piece on the wall that could be removed and used to make the table larger or so it could be a coffee table if desired. Also if they could design a small foot stool that could be slid under the chair when not in use. For Apex... how about removing the folding doors and run the veranda flooring deeper into the cabin... so that it is at least deeper...

Or you got sick from someone on the elevator, or the handrail by the stairs, or the counter at the bar or a hundred other places.  Anything that you touch that other passengers touch has the potential to make you sick.  The hand washing trough is another one of the well intended concepts on Edge that doesn't appear to be working for a lot of passengers.

We will be sailing on the edge in a couple of weeks-  Have been reading very negative reports, especially about the infinite veranda staterooms.  I did notice from the pictures that the cabins lack adequate storage.  Hope that Celebrity installs cabinets over the bed as they have in solstice class ships as the lack of storage space seems to be a major design flaw.

We paid a premium to sail on this ship-hopefully we didn't waste our money.

Suggestion: Celebrity figure out a way for Luminae passengers to be able to order off MDR menu, as has been the case on every ship until now.

Are you saying that suite guests cannot eat in the main dining rooms? Is this only on Edge or all Celebrity ships?

Suite guests can eat anywhere they wish including Blu

Ordering off the MDR menu is not easy logistically because of the distance to Luminae on Edge.  But perhaps they could expand the Luminae menu to compensate for the limited choices.

Yes, that is what we figured as well.  Blu was a better choice for us because they were able to offer items from MDR more effectively.

-IV needs to be rethought...is this an oceanview cabin or a balcony cabin? No curtain to close cabin from faux balcony area.

-Full length mirror in cabin

-Close in specialty restaurants

-Martini bar should be floating in center of Grand Plaza and put the ice top back.

-Sunset Bar needs to be more liken the  Reflection which offers more of an ocean view and not have the bar feel like it was an afterthought and facing a solid wall while sitting at the bar.

-Edonites must go. So much more could have been done with that space...TWO70 comes to mind 😉

-PLEASE do something with the production shows....why is it that Royal can have fantastic Broadway productions and Celebrity seems to be the same old cruise shows. I am a fan of Celebrity and always recommend....but at the same time I always say forget the shows...they are terrible.

-Casino felt small and very enclosed...open it up more.

-That dark mirrored hall leading to Blu and Eden with those chrome like tree sculptures makes you dizzy walking through...felt like you are going through a fun house....someone actually threw up in it while walking through. And those chrome trees were disgusting....filled with handprints all over from people touching...YUK

Here goes my list

Forget about the electric shade and install regular room darkening drapes/curtains.  Our electric shade broke the first time we lowered it and we were not the first during embarkation day.  The curtain is not practical.for the daily use of the cabin.

Drop the" Open" Water bottles and issue each room a Brita and glass containers

We actually appreciated the gourmet food in Eden Dinner.  The Edenites didn't bother us since we are used to Disney actors.  We actually engaged in the play acting and had fun.

Disable the elevator lobby door from opening the elevator after the door closes. We have been lamenting about this for all our cruising decades.

Make the shower wand in the AQ shower 18 in longer so that one can use the wand at a greater height (extra holder on the wall).  I don't need a rain shower spray from overhead every day

As others have said, enclose the restaurants  with walls to partition away from the Martini Bar Atrium. The music  is too loud and distracting when you are dining on a 5 star steak in Fine Cut for which you are paying $55 a head..   Yes the tomahawk was that good!  And it is a shame to have to focus on music rather than experiencing the food

Add directions (in print) on the switches in the room. The bed side switch activates lighting schemes which are  different from the entry switch and again different from the digital pad.

Finally let the 2nd class pax on board have access to some forward facing area.

baja, you make some good points, but there is a full length mirror in the staterooms - you need to slide the vanity into the desk and voila, you have a full length mirror! It's the same in the sky suites. 🙂

Fedback from 1 Dec sailing (preview cruise), AquaClass IV Deck 10 Aft (random order):

- Overall a very beautiful ship

- Food and service in BLU excellent

- Loved the atmosphere in EDEN

- Great that you can control room temperature, blinds and TV from control panel / app

- Innovative art

- Persian gardens are wonderful, but lack hairdryers in changing rooms and also staff to enforce and limit occupation of loungers

- Took me ages to find the hair dryer in the room (it is in a “hidden” drawer under the sink in the bathroom)

- The safe is very small and cannot hold a small laptop

- Top decks and front views are reserved for suite guests (suite restaurant, suite lounge area and suite pool deck)

- BLU has no ocean views, curtains are drawn at all times to hide views of life boats

- BLU partition towards hallway is a metal curtain only

- Only access to BLU are by stairs or through an “enchanted forest”. I could see the “forest” being a challenge for anyone using a walker, wheelchair or scooter, especially in rough seas (the forest is a dark area with mirrors and golden trea trunks spread throughout)

- Main entrance to EDEN, if unable to use stairs, is through the same “forest”

- Drinks in EDEN are expensive, USD15 and up

- My stateroom door would not close unless pulled / pushed closed

- No fruit delivered to state room unless requested (normally delivered daily in AC)

- No coffee table in room (except a small one on the IV)

- IV window takes a long time to open / close and is noisy (you can hear other windows opening, closing)

- Bi-fold doors are tricky to operate

- Very little space on IV, no more sunbathing on the veranda

- Room gets very hot when window is down, as AC stops,

- No signs to gangway (I had to ask guest services for directions)

- Loved the show in the theatre

- Staff overall friendly, although first public sailing and the most guests they had had

- Bars do not stock premium wine / premium wine only available in restaurants

- Miss the sky lounge. Apart from restaurants, only lounge area with sea views that I could find was Cafe al Bacio

- No hooks for coats etc by the stateroom door

- Love the USB chargers by the bed
