Coffeeluvr05 Posted February 23, 2019 #76 Share Posted February 23, 2019 We did not experience this great service on our first cruise in a suite with Princess in Europe. However, in SF we did and it really was unexpected and set the tone for our wonderful trip!

ashhill Posted April 23, 2019 #81 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Just a follow up to this thread. Has anyone actually been escorted aboard if they are in a suite from Fort lauderdale? We have a suite booked for June and would like to know.

nukesubsailor Posted April 23, 2019 #83 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Since 2012 we have sailed in Princess full suites 29 times, embarking from Ft. Lauderdale, New York City, Southampton UK, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver CA, and Whittier and we have never once been escorted aboard. The only passengers I have witnessed being escorted aboard were in wheelchairs being pushed by a crew member.

Yes, On our November 18 CB cruise out of FLL we were escorted by a man in a tux with white gloves. We were in a full suite. Did not really care for it. He took our carry ons for us. I felt very uncomfortable because everyone was watching. I kept saying, " this is far enough, we can take care of it". There are many perks they no longer offer that I would have prefered. We were escorted aboard on the 3/31 sailing of the Regal from Fort Lauderdale also by a man in a tux. He took us straight to our suite.
jeromep Posted April 23, 2019 #89 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Intrigued by this entire thread I went to the Princess web site and looked up their Suite page. I didn't see anything that I haven't seen or read before. If escorting suite guests is a new thing, they haven't documented it. This tells me that they are testing it out, and if it is successful and sustainable, then it may be documented or be made widespread across the fleet. Once in Fort Lauderdale last December and again in San Francisco in March. We'll see how our July trip out of FLL goes. Both times we opted out of going directly to our cabin and instead to be "dropped off" at the MDR for lunch. AF-1 Posted April 23, 2019 #92 Share Posted April 23, 2019 I have only sailed with Princess twice. First time was Jul 2017 in family suite on Emerald, and Feb 2019 on CB in Penthouse Suite. Both times were were escorted onboard the ship. In Feb a gentleman in a tux; who was from the dining room escorted us onboard. There was a delay in boarding due to the ocean medallion program not working properly; our escort stayed with us for an hour until boarding began. Very nice beginning to a great cruise. DrivesLikeMario Posted April 23, 2019 #93 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Has never happened to us in the past 15 years in Vancouver, Galveston or Ft. Lauderdale when we've had suites.
nukesubsailor Posted April 23, 2019 #94 Share Posted April 23, 2019 I don't think this is a Princess policy. How do the escorts know which of the mass of passengers awaiting boarding are in full suites? Maybe it is just a member of the ship's crew with nothing else to do on embarkation day so he dresses up and escorts people for tips.
AF-1 Posted April 23, 2019 #95 Share Posted April 23, 2019 when I showed up in FLL to board the ship; there is a member of the staff who will recognize suite guests when you go to the counter. They will call one of the Princess staff over to escort you on board the ship

While the person checking us in at the terminal desk is doing his/her work, they undoubtedly contact someone assigned to provide the escort. It's all very seamless. In each case where we've been escorted aboard, the escort just sort of appeared.

When we arrived at the check-in counter, we were quickly walked over to a princess staff member who escorted us onto the ship, straight to a table in Club Class Dining to have lunch. I asked where the restroom was and was escorted there too. LOL! She walked rather fast and kept saying “excuse me” to get other passengers to move aside and make way for us. It was a little uncomfortable in that respect, but it did set the bar high For our trip! It was the most relaxing lunch and when we were finished our room was ready for us. That’s when that high bar that was set, came crashing down. LOL! We had a great trip nonetheless! This was out of SF on the Grand, btw.

We cruised on the Caribbean Princess from Jan 26-Feb 23, 2019. When we embarked we never went to the check-in counter as we had the medallions. We just had them scanned at a little stand the signs directed medallion holders to, were handed a ship map and were directed to the suite/elite pre-boarding waiting room.

Having a few minutes, I thought I’d do the math. Though I’m sure the numbers vary slightly, our RS told us he’s responsible for 18 cabins. This means he needs to strip, clean and make ready for the next bunch of pax all of his cabins between 8AM and 1 PM. That gives him only between 15 and 20 minutes on average to do each cabin. Our RS knocked on our door at about 7:45. He already had beads of perspiration on his face. Based on all of this, it occurs to me that on future cruises we will wait patiently clear of the room corridors until 1PM. Just reading this and it makes sense (we’ve just booked our 1st cruise). So about 20 min to change bedding, etc & clean/vacuum/sterilize a cabin? That doesn’t seem possible to get it clean in that amount of time. I’m packing wipes, lol!
