nextcruiseonmymind Posted April 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2019 Are there any ship activities that take place on the observation deck in the crows nest on the Oosterdam? Thanks for any information.
Sir PMP Posted April 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2019 The crow's nest offers great views, there is bar, a travel magazine section, some pc's, but no music, bands etc.
Rare ontheweb Posted April 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2019 Many years ago we had our meet and greet in the Crow's Nest. It was the area assigned to us for this by HAL.
Rare kazu Posted April 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2019 It really depends on the ship you are on. On the larger ones no nothing as it purposes have been changed. On the older ships there can be activities Until recently the Rotterdam had BB Kings there (our loss as they were excellent) On the Prinsendam the piano guy is there. On the Oosterdam I would’t Expect anything as it did retrofitted to suit Mr. Ashfrod’s vision.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted April 10, 2019 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2019 The Crow's Nest as an entertainment venue at night will soon be a thing of the past. There was a time when there was a house band playing dance music in there before the DJ took over

Surely may be wrong, but I think the concept for the Crow's Nest is still a "work in progress". Maybe sometime in the future, some type of music will return? KroozNut Posted April 12, 2019 #13 Share Posted April 12, 2019 We had trivia games conducted in the Crow's Nest recently on Oosterdam. 🙂

I recall seeing carpeted areas on much of the Crow's Nest floor. I recall seeing a non-carpeted area near the middle of the lounge, close to the Exploration's Cafe coffee bar. Am I mistaken that this area might not be used as a dance-floor type in the future? What I saw certainly reminded of what I what observed in the Crow's Nest on the Rotterdam. Nieuw Statendam's was not as large as the Rotterdam's as I recall. Or, is my memory totally wacky?

I always enjoyed the view and I can still get a diet coke or a Whiskey Sour at the bar. I have also benefitted from some great EXP presentations up there. I like the redone Crows nest. nextcruiseonmymind Posted April 13, 2019 Author #19 Share Posted April 13, 2019 Do they charge for treats from the Explorations Cafe? And does anyone know the hours of both the cafe and the bar?

No charge for the treats; I'm not sure of the Bar's hours, but I would imagine it would open fairly early in the morning and stay open well into the evening. bobpell Posted April 14, 2019 #21 Share Posted April 14, 2019 We were on the Nieuw Statendam early March this year and I was surprised the Exploration Bar did not open til 8am for coffee The Koningsdam opened at 7am last fall Bob
ScottC4746 Posted April 14, 2019 #22 Share Posted April 14, 2019 There were a few talks and activities that took place. You can also find jigsaw puzzles and lots of books (based on Eurodam) but mind you the puzzles have missing pieces.
Rare *Miss G* Posted April 14, 2019 #23 Share Posted April 14, 2019 It would be awesome if the Explorations Cafe opened at 6:00 am every day. Or even 6:30 am. 7:00 am at the very latest. 8:00 am is way too late!!!
