If the guessing earlier in the thread as to the size of the keel are correct (just wider than Q class but narrower than O class), that's unlikely to happen given the GT rating (at least on the scale of O class). Given the current trend toward a blunt bow, the overall length could also be shorter than O class. And given the likely need to fit into places like NY, the height will also likely be limited to O class or less. For context, the MSC World Europa is 205 k GT and has the same amount of cabins.

I don't know if I would base an assumption on that, but... you're not necessarily wrong about the Icon being open down the middle like her older sisters in the Oasis-class.😎😎😎

With Royal touting a revolutionary design, I keep thinking back to the World City Phoenix concept from the 80s.  At that time the idea of a 250,000GT cruise ship was considered absurd by a lot of folks, but here we are today.  The Phoenix's multi tower design offers more sea views from more places, and is generally more outwardly focused than Royal's latest ships.  Of course, a lot has changed in the industry and I doubt the design would be practical anymore, but I'd love to see certain concepts brought to a modern ship.

The Costa Toscana departs on December 3rd. Hopefully the shipyard starts shifting things around soon after that. 😄  

 

Building of the Icon could start in the second week of the new year.

The cruise line, the shipyard, a design firm employed by the cruise line? 

 

If it's different for each cruise line or individual ship, do we know what the case is for the Icon of the Seas?

Float out Icon of the Seas engine room section at Neptun shipyard Rostock / Germany on November 26, 2021. With over 245.500 GT, this next generation cruise ship will be the largest of the world. The Icon of the Seas is powered by LNG. This floating engine room unit ( FERU ) has a width of 48,50m and will soon be shipped to Meyer shipyard Turku / Finland. Delivery from Meyer Turku shipyard is planned for Q3 2023.

i think that is the Beam at the Water Line

Oasis is 47 and Quantum 41 at the Waterline.

Thanks to Edouardo for passing along these screen grabs from a Costa Toscana video he watched.

You can see some doorways for the curved elevator banks on the backside of the blocks that we have been admiring. Must admit that at first glance I though they were the balcony doorways for inward facing cabins.

 

*I hope that this is the proper terminology 🙂

I see your point when you look at it like that and maybe the picture and angle is distorting.  Perhaps what we now also need  to know is the name of that transport vessel and what it’s max carrying width is.

From the first photo... that belongs to Carnival Celebration - top deck at stern. This piece, the bridge and the funnel appear to be the last big pieces to be installed. The funnel may not go on until the 3rd week of January. After the pieces are installed using the large crane/portico, then the Celebration can be moved forward.

'The Obj. 0400 FERU of the NB 1400 resp. S. 1400 left the Neptun shipyard in Rostock today. The FERU is destined for Turku and will be towed there by two tugs. This part of the ICON OF THE SEAS already contains two LNG tanks. The FERU is 48.79m wide and 95.60m long.'
