Does anyone know of any private tours in Cozumel?  Do the taxi's offer any tours like they do in Bermuda?

Cozumel is not really a place that you "tour".  What do you like to do?

Want to see the wild, undeveloped far side?  Do the Cozumel Bar Hop.

Want to go to a beach?  There are half a dozen highly recommended ones.

RC's cooking class at Playa Mia is one of the few ship's excursions I do.  It's a great day.

Use the Ports of Call boards to research.

Many people do take a “tour” on Cozumel, ranging from a simple circular trip round the island with stops for snacks or drinks and photo ops at the more rustic beach bars on the east side and a drive through the town, to a more comprehensive tour with stops at one or more of the more tourist oriented venues (tequila tasting, chocolate factory, Mayan cultural centers), small ruins site or Punta Sur. If you know where you want to go you can negotiate an hourly charge at the taxi dispatch or take a set island tour. Keep in mind these are usually drivers rather than guides.

We usually pre-book a driver with ToursPlaza through their website. They are very efficient and have suggestions of places to visit on their site.

The bar hop, suggested above, provides a well-run sampler tour of the east side.  You are traveling with others so it can be fun but you lose the flexibility to set your own itinerary and schedule.

Yes you can hire a taxi/van and do a private tour.  We did that a couple of years ago in Cozumel.  Hired a guy at the pier and he took 6 of us on a tour of the other side of the island.  Stopped at several bars over there.  🍺

When I cruise with people who have not been to Cozumel before, I take a 2-3 hour half-day taxi and ask the driver to take us through downtown, around the “wild side” of the island with two photo/bar stops, then drop us off at Paradise Beach.  There is still time for 2-3 hours to relax and have lunch at Pardise Beach, and then we take another taxi back to the ship.

I have been to Cozumel close to 20 times and just recently found out about the Pearl Farm (number one in things to do in Cozumel on TripAdvisor).  A boat ride with no more than 8 passengers, a secluded beach, “speed snorkeling” over the pearl farm, and a pineapple cheeseburger for lunch.

Contact Crecensio Lopez with Black Hat Cozumel.  You can message him through Facebook.  We have used him several times for private tours and have always been very pleased.  He will tailor the day to your interests.

We used Hiring a Driver for the Day a few years ago. We told him to show us local landmarks, etc and we did that for the first couple of hours then over to the east side of the island. We've been to Coz many times and glad we did this to see places we normally might not see.

We are also interested in a private tour.  We loved the Cozumel Bar Hop we did a few months and would like to take our boys ages 19, 16 & 16 to that side of the island.  With Crecensio can you plan your own day?  We would like to go to the east side of the island and revisit a few of the bars beach areas at our own pace.

Yes, you can plan your own day with Crescencio or ToursPlaza.

If you know where you want to go you can always get a taxi at dispatch. (Taxi drivers don’t always speak much English so it depends if you just want a driver, or a tour guide.)

We just got back from our 2nd trip to Cozumel and both times we have gone with Crescencio (Black Hat). Cannot say enough good things about him. We told him some things we wanted to do and also asked for his advice.

We went to the Mercado (if you are looking for a batido de mamey this is the place to go), Coconuts (the view is amazing),  El Mirador, did a tequila tour (have to look at my photos to get the name, it is not listed anywhere in Google but Crescencio recommended it and it was great). For lunch we asked him to take us to a place he would go to - he did not disappoint! It was full of people but we were the only tourists in the place, huge portions and it was one of the best meals of the trip. he drove us all over the place and back to the port with plenty of time to walk around and do some shopping.
