bobbismith Posted May 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2019 Has anyone had it on the Coral in Alaska? Did you enjoy it? I thought we would drink less 'adult' drinks on the ship due to the weird hours of an Alaskan cruise. What mock-tails can you get? Has anyone gotten a mock-tail then added a (legal) shot from your room while back on your balcony watching the sites. Thanks, Bobbi
Reina del Mar Posted May 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2019 Don't think Alaskan port hours would make much difference to the quantity you drink, as many cruises have ports most days, unless a longer /Transatlantic cruise. No problem adding 'legal' spirits from bottles ordered into your cabin to 'mocktails', as long as you don't mind running back and fore or consuming in cabin. Bar staff will make virtually any alcohol free mocktails you ask for, on the soft drinks and more package. Be aware to tell them 'virgin cocktails on drinks' package' We had to go to guest services three times to get charges removed from out folio, even though we had package. Guest services not exactly rude, but did not apologise! We were asked to explain ourselves! The only diet drink available on the package, on our cruise was Diet Coke, which limited 'mocktails' . Bar staff suggested soda water instead of Diet Sprite or 7 Up. Not sure how that would affect people monitoring sugar levels. You could buy Diet Sprite in cans though but that somehow defeats object of drinks' package.
GUT2407 Posted May 22, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2019 Buy it every cruise. Never had an issue getting any mocktails, but only ever seen Diet Coke, in the Diet range,
skynight Posted May 22, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2019 Basically if you drink 4 sodas a day you just about break even. It's convenient since you can get the soda at any bar. Drink size isn't always the same. Bars by the pool have larger glasses. The package includes hot chocolate at the International Cafe. A nice benefit. You can get just about any mocktail prepared with standard ingredients.
bobbismith Posted May 22, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted May 22, 2019 So the Sprite Zero everyone is talking about is NOT included?

The package only includes fountain sodas. There is no Sprite Zero available at any fountain. The only diet fountain soda available is Diet Coke and, of course, plain seltzer. One other point of information. Juices are available for free in the DR and the buffet during breakfast hours. After that time there is a charge. I believe the package does not cover fresh squeezed OJ if offered on the ship.

We usually get the Soda and More package since my husband always seems to need a glass of soda. He does not drink water! He also likes to get some type of juice to have in the room over night; he gets this at any bar before we head up tot our room. The only time we do not purchase the package is on a port intensive cruise where we will be off the ship just about every day. It is well worth the money for us. Rare PandaBear62 Posted May 23, 2019 #10 Share Posted May 23, 2019 Expanding on mocktails.......I'm usually a beer and wine drinker. What kind of blended drinks make a good mocktail? I know about blended margaritas, daiquiri's and pina colada's. Anything else?
Katwoman007 Posted May 23, 2019 #11 Share Posted May 23, 2019 We tried a few mocktails on our last cruise and the only thing that was not overly sweet and put you into a diabetic coma was the Mojito type one. Everything else was out of containers, fruit purees.

I think it was called a Nojito - or at least it started with "No"

YES!!!! The NO-jito! I had my share of both 😉 but that does sound right. We had the soda package, but this round we have the full, so no more NOs for me next week! hahaha

voljeep Posted May 23, 2019 #16 Share Posted May 23, 2019 my wife stated that also ... too sweet ... but never said that when it was a full blown Pina Colada ... are they made different except for the rum added ?
Pam in CA Posted May 23, 2019 #17 Share Posted May 23, 2019 Normally I’m not a fan of the packages as they are created for the cruise line to make money but the Soda & More package is actually worth it. On my recent Royal B2B, I figured that if I had one soda and one mocktail a day, I broke even. A mocktail was charged to my folio before the package was entered and it was over $6. The package is now $8.26/day.

I think the faux Pina Colada is pretty good. And yes, we do add a splash of rum from our fake sunscreen bottles to the mocktails.
borsenik Posted May 23, 2019 #19 Share Posted May 23, 2019 Has anyone purchased the drink package and had a hard time getting drink service that would not make it worth having? I like to have wine with dinner and wondering if just purchasing by the glass makes more since.

Never had an issue getting service and I have the soda package (or that lines equivalent) every cruise. if your looking at the alcohol package you need to go through 6 to 8 dr8nks a day, so a glass of wine at dinner isn’t worth it. So I called it a Virgin Nojito the second time I tried it. "No" vs "Mo" in a loud casino venue was too likely to cause confusion.

Anthing that normally just has vodka or rum tastes virtually the same!

We carry a few of those little bottles & refill them as needed when we know we'll be getting a drink so we don't always have to return to the room to spike our drinks.
