Thanks Crown Grill for the suite breakfast maybe (not embarkation day/there is no lunch in the CG) but Club Class (lunch) is set up in the DR on embarkation day. GreenValleyDogWalker Posted June 6, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted June 6, 2019 Interesting - I guess we haven't sailed Princess since the introduction of Club Class Hubby now says he remembers going to the Crown Grill for lunch on embarkation day (and ordering two orders of shrimp cocktail !) Eaglecw Posted June 7, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2019 You can go down to one of the MDR on embarkation day and have a nice peaceful lunch. It'll be open from Noon until 1:30pm, they tend to close the door at around 1:20. We always go to the MDR on embarkation day for lunch, my DH can't stand the buffet, to crowded. reedprincess Posted June 7, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2019 Crown Grill (or Sabatini's or Share or Bayou steakhouse or Sterling Steakhouse) perk for suite guests is for dinner. The specialty restaurants aren't open for lunch, whether embarkation or any other days.

GreenValleyDogWalker Posted June 7, 2019 Author #8 Share Posted June 7, 2019 Thanks everyone - Hubby couldn't stand it (he was SURE we had lunch upon embarkation) - anyway - just talked to the couple that we cruised with - Star Princess in 2017 - suite passengers also - and yes - the 4 of us did, in fact, go to the Crown Grill for lunch as soon as we embarked the ship (In LA) Maybe they don't offer that anymore - since they now have Club Class Dining... I don't remember that ever offered. A very long time ago, the Tex Mex speciality restaurant was open on sea days for lunch but never the first day. Yes, all ships have the Suite Specialty restaurant breakfast - but that certainly doesn't apply on embarkation, which is what the OP is asking about. getting older slowly Posted June 7, 2019 #11 Share Posted June 7, 2019 Well at least we have Club Class for lunch......now a days I hope they don't stop it... as the last few cruises there has only been 4-5 tables max over lunch....... but it is a great way to start your cruise...... some nice food with a glass of wine and good service.... Cheers Don

Thanks You may be thinking about the full suite passenger complimentary specialty restaurant dinner on boarding day. You can select either the Crown Grill or Sabatini's. Call the dine line after boarding for a reservation. There is also the special mimosa breakfast for full suite guests each morning. On the Grand it's either in the Crown Grill or Sabatini's. In the evening & lunch on sea days and boarding day there is Club Class dining in a section of the DR. I don't ever remember the Crown Grill open for lunch on boarding day, but maybe it was an experiment at one time. Just a note. These are for full suite passengers, not mini suites. Club Class mini suites do get Club Class dining, but not the other dining benefits. Edited June 7, 2019 by skynight

When the Grand first sailed in 1998 there was a Mexican restaurant in the area which is now the Crown Grill and Leaves Tea Lounge. At times they had an entertainer in the area that is now Leaves. There were no walls. Passengers leaving the theater walked right through the restaurant in the hallway that is still visable. Soon after it was changed to the Sterling Steakhouse. The Leaves section was changed to a Limelight photo studio. Sterling Steakhouse was then changed to the Crown Grill. With the major renovation when Skywalker's was removed it was changed to it's current configuration. Edited June 7, 2019 by skynight
PoohUnderstands Posted June 7, 2019 #17 Share Posted June 7, 2019 On our last cruise on the Grand last March, all the usual times were lessened by a half hour. I.E., embarkation lunch was from 11:30am-1pm. So just keep that in mind when boarding if you want to do the MDR lunch (CC or regular). As another poster pointed out ... when a show in the theater ended, many folks would walk right through the restuarant (as that's where the hallway was). I think they might have moved the casino to that location. But, maybe that was on Caribbean. "You are in a maze of twisty little ships, all alike." I think on the Golden (or Star?) it was Desert Rose. Was it on the Star? One of them was Desert Rose. I just did a search and it appears it kept it's name when it switched to a steakhouse, at least for awhile. I also found an article from the newspaper which put the fee at $3.50: https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/os-xpm-1998-09-13-9809090427-story.html Edited June 8, 2019 by Coral
jeromep Posted June 8, 2019 #23 Share Posted June 8, 2019 We had a suite on the Star in 2017 and on our cruise, embarkation lunch was in the MDR. We did Club Class for that lunch (first cruise of the season out of Vancouver and first sailing with Club Class for that ship). It was excellent. We walked the ship pretty extensively the first day and didn't notice any life in the Crown Grill until dinner time (where we used our suite perk for complimentary dinner there that evening). Suite breakfast was in Sabatini's. Also excellent. Be on the lookout for the Club Class dining room entrance on embarkation day because that is where you can avoid the crowds of the buffet (I also hate trying to get embarkation day lunch at the buffet).
