Hazegreyunderway Posted August 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2019 We will be on the Grand for the Hawaii cruise Nov 18-Dec 3. When we dock in Ensenada for the 1/2 day, our son wants to drive down from San Diego and see us. Can we bring him onboard for a few hours? Or is it a no go? Thanks

SANDRAMARTINEZ Posted August 26, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2019 Post 9/11 it is a no for sure. I remember being on a cruise in Mexico in 2010 and my mother/Aunt/Uncle/two of their friends (all were vacationing in Cancun) were let on to have dinner with us in the dining room that evening at no charge--such a wonderful evening--so sad that those days are a thing of the past
GUT2407 Posted August 26, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2019 I guess there may be a slim chance, if it is also a embarkation port (ie you are on a b2b) and they are offering the Bon Voyage experience. Its not offered here so didn’t think of that slim chance earlier.

They discontinued it a few months ago, fleet wide.

fluffybunny22 Posted August 26, 2019 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2019 This stopped being a thing after 9/11. My in laws were on a cruise in port when it happened and they immediately escorted non passengers off the ship.

Thank you, I wasn’t aware of that, I had actually been hoping they may eventually offer it down under. There are a few people I would love to be able to take on board

There are a few people I would love to be able to take on board I was so disappointed to learn of this, too. I wanted to go onboard the Grand while she was in SF for the main events of fleet week this October when I found out they were not offering it anymore. That would have been the perfect location to watch the air show and all the naval activities in the bay.
MissP22 Posted August 30, 2019 #13 Share Posted August 30, 2019 Only the crew is allowed to bring on family when in port. I'm not sure they can bring on friends through.
MJSailors Posted August 30, 2019 #14 Share Posted August 30, 2019 You could still meet up with your son at a restaurant or beach club close to the port.

Meet in Ensenada, just outside the ship. He was offering to drive there, anyway. Sounds good!
Rare Coral Posted August 30, 2019 #16 Share Posted August 30, 2019 (edited) Some higher end lines still allow this (even after 9-11). I sailed on Crystal last year and they allowed this. It had to be arranged ahead of time. Edited August 30, 2019 by Coral

Lucky TGO Posted August 30, 2019 #18 Share Posted August 30, 2019 (edited) I was in Saint Thomas my friend was on a Celebrity ship next to us. I asked if he could come on the ship and see what it was like and was told. Sorry 🙁 Tony Edited August 30, 2019 by Lucky TGO

I'm not sure they can bring on friends through. Visitors (crew family etc) are vetted ahead of time and the visit date/port/time is set in advance. They can't just all of a sudden decide to bring someone on. If it is a senior officer then its a different story.

By that standard people sailing on a current voyage should be allowed to board another Princess ship in port if they wanted to visit it for a few hours. Just like years ago.
