New to Celebrity, Edge or Equinox

We are new to Celebrity, can you please help us in choosing a cruise, we are thinking of the Edge or the Equinox.  We always have a balcony cabin but never use our balcony...what ship would you choose (itinerary not important to us because we are avid cruisers and been to all the islands many times) and why?

If you like a balcony cabin but never use the balcony, you might really like the Infinite Veranda that’s on Edge.  It will give you extra space in your cabin and a floor to ceiling window that you can either open the top or keep closed.  They’re completely enclosed for total privacy and will give you the light and view a balcony gives you, allowing you the fresh air and extra space while maintaining the privacy of your own cabin.

i haven’t been on either ship so can’t speak from experience, but I’m definitely looking forward to my Edge experience in January.

We sailed on all the current classes of X ships and recently was  on the Edge in a Infinite veranda.  We loved it.   If it is in your budget would recommend the Edge.  It has a lot of nice features, and for us many comfortable areas to lounge or hang out in.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

What do you enjoy doing on a cruise?

We’ve been on Equinox a couple of times, it is wonderfully relaxing. We are doing Edge in February, so no personal experience, but based on my research it is a very different ship. We are planning a week just exploring the ship, only getting off once or twice

Thank you.  We are leaning on the Edge, its not much about the money its about the food and overall experience.

Good decent food with a lunch buffet of decent variety.  We do not eat things like burgers, fries, hot dogs, etc.  We love listening to bands/music.  We do love to play in the casino mainly slots.  We don't cruise for the ports, been everywhere and seen it all, but I haven't been to Tortola in years so I may get off there.  A crowded feeling ship we like to avoid.  We are both 56 and prefer an older crowd.  We like to sip on cocktails but walk around to different places to sit and relax.  We are diamond on RC so that would make us Elite on Celebrity.  We are tossing on the Equinox or the Edge for January or February.

If money isn’t a concern then try Aqua Class or a Suite.

Both have their own own dining room, and the suites have a private lounge with a open bar,  and their own private pool area on deck 16.

We were in AQ.  That class also gives unlimited access to the Thermal Suites area.  Breakfast and dinner in Blu

The suites dine  in Luminae for breakfast, lunch on embarkation and sea days,  and dinner.

Both of those  classes are also allowed to dine the the MDRs I’d desired.

happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Equinox will be an older crowd and much more laid back than Edge. We are Pinnacle on RCI and have decided only Celebrity in the future for us. We have not done Edge and from reviews we probably won't ever go on that ship. The clientele on the S and M class ships (Equinox is S class) are more upscale than RCI pax, not many children unless sailing in summer or spring break and then nothing like RCI. Edge is geared more toward younger crowds.

No being mean, but had to respond. Im joking.

It sure took you a long time and many cruises to determine RCI is not for you.

We like them both. Both cruise lines have nice and bad people. LOL

We've been on both...but not since EQ was recently updated. Usually do AQ class on S Class.  BLU is nicer , quieter, better service and food to our liking. Plus access to Persian Garden is included in the fare.

On Edge last January,  we had an infinite veranda in AQ Class with  BLU ( no sea views in BLU on EDGE) and access to the awesome thermal suites, relaxation rm etc.  Our itin had Tortola.. island is a bit damaged but still an amazing port...we loved our day there!

We enjoyed our EDGE cruise and  are returning in Jan in a Sunset Veranda with the 4 mdr plan,,, That format sounds like a nice change for us,.  We took Select dining and pre made res in all the mdrs. Specialty dining also offers so much in EDGE and there are a variety of bars..It is missing a quiet wine bar or a jazz venue but we managed fine!

EDGE is amazing in style and decor,,,.outstanding art collection, very hi tech ship,   state of the art theater with  better than average shows.  It is def not just geared to younger cruisers at keast in reality....trust me!  Has a great mix of upscale,  modern cruisers!

If you have been to all the ports and on traditional ships, trying EDGE will be special and different, even if just once!  Just my opinion. I am an EDGE fan..and also  like EQ  too!  So excited about our upcoming ABC Island itin on EDGE!

For someone who once thought that the Silhouette (sister ship to the Equinox) would never be beaten I have to say that it is a no brainer for us and would go with the EDGE without hesitation. Loved almost everything about her. She is one very beautiful ship. Loved the idea of 4 main dining rooms as each one felt very special and was more intimate. Loved our aft cabin and the size of the balcony. The atrium is a brilliant place and has a real atmosphere. The sunset bar wasn't as nice as the one on Silhouette but we still loved it. We also loved having a quiet drink on the Magic carpet and thought that the area where you got off the ship Destination Gateway was just a brilliant idea.

Your preferences for food and activities on board sound very much like ours. We think you'd really enjoy the Edge.

Can you tell us what exactly people don't care for on the Edge?

Great to hear!  We remain tossing on the Edge or Equinox lol.  I need to make up my mind by Thursday, hopefully sooner.

Yes, I did read the Edge has four dining rooms, but I am unsure whether we will be getting concierge class, we are considering the Infinite Balcony rooms only because we will take our elderly father in law who is single and considering giving him the Single Infinite balcony room and we need a room close by to him, he doesn't leave the room unless he is with one of us.  My question, if we only have this IB, how does dining work?  I assume we don't have priority then I be afraid we get stuck with 9pm dining which would be too late for him or 6pm dining would be too early for us, what are our chances in getting dining between 7-8:00pm having this type stateroom?

We do have a few other questions if you can continue helping us:

1-  Is there lunch in the MDR on embarkation day

2-  My father in law asked if he can fit an IPAD in the safe

3-  What is your favorite MDR on the Edge and which specialty restaurant is your favorite?  On RC we always dine in the specialty restaurants but I hear the MDR on the Equinox and Edge exceeds RC so we would like to experience the MDR most nights

1-  Is there lunch in the MDR on embarkation day - Yes, for Captain's Club members only.

2-  My father in law asked if he can fit an IPAD in the safe - It depends on the iPad size, especially on the Edge where only a mini iPad will fit because the safes are smaller than those on other ships in the fleet.

3-  What is your favorite MDR on the Edge and which specialty restaurant is your favorite? - MDR: Cyprus. Specialty: Finecut Steak House.

On RC we always dine in the specialty restaurants but I hear the MDR on the Equinox and Edge exceeds RC so we would like to experience the MDR most nights. - Personally, we think the restaurants and MDRs on the Edge are a step above those on the Equinox.

Just one  different comment

..  MDR lunch on embarkation day is for Concierge Class only... . Also B2 B cruisers and Zenith level Cap Club

Cap Club has a welcome party the first evening..if OP has Royal C status..that will transfer to equal level  on X ( mostly)

Also noting that  others have commented that EDGE has more steps and ramps and low to rhe ground  seating ....making it sometimes more challenging for wheelchair and scooter users.  Not sure if this applies to your father but we walked very cautiously on EDGE...no issues

If money is no object, do a Suite, and do Edge.  The ship within a ship concept is fantastic, and, in our opinion, worth every penny. Edge is new and the whole ship is simply beautiful.

Equinox, though, was recently renovated, and is a beautiful ship, as well.

Really, either is great. If you are in a balcony cabin, Edge has the Infinite Verandah which might give you a bigger cabin?

Thanks so much, hcat, for clarifying. 😊

(And I can't believe I left out Concierge class. 😳)

We are actually thinking of a Concierge  booking in the future...so I had just looked up the perks!

Still think AQ is better..  or a   $uite
