Hey Jeff and Patti,

I’ve been lurking all along and following this great review - another great review Bravo!  Your writing and Patti’s pictures make for a great read. I’ve been dealing with a health issue the past few weeks so it was great to look forward to your posts. We were supposed to be taking a Danube river cruise next week but unfortunately had to cancel.  We are booked on a Caribbean cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam leaving in 4 weeks so hope I am better by then. Paul says we’re going because the sea air will do me good, and I can recuperate at sea as well as at home!

so you have to update us - how did Ryan make out with the hole in the roof??

sharon

Sorry to read you are having health issues.  I agree that - if you are able to travel - sea air and someone else doing the cooking, cleaning, and making the beds would make for a more pleasant recuperation 🙂 Get well soon!

Great stuff Jeff. And great work by Patti. I hope you’re able to make the New Orleans trip. That’s peak crawfish season. And Jazz Fest if you’re there the last week of April.

Thanks Greg! Now I can really look forward to your next LIVE review! We are really looking forward to our B2B on the Glory, (Patti's favorite ship!), and to visiting and sailing from New Orleans for the first time. We will be there the very beginning of April. I'll be picking your brain for sure. :classic_biggrin:

Wonderful review as always and great follow-up.  Thank you again Jeff and Patti ❤️

Praying for your cataract surgery.  My dad had his done a few years ago and was amazed at the difference.

Thanks so much! Wish you could have stayed on and done the Canada / New England cruise with us. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and observations during the course of this review. It's always great to see and hear things from another prospective. Thanks for your prayers for my upcoming cataract surgery. Everyone that I talk to says it's a piece of cake so I'm not worried. I told Patti that I can't wait to read this review and see her pictures in total clarity!

Thanks for the fantastic review, but I’m sad it’s over, especially since I felt like I was right there with you guys! Thanks for pointing out the difference between a full ship and an at capacity ship. It’s something I never really thought about, but it makes perfect sense now.  I always wondered how a ship could seem more crowded on one sailing more so than another sailing on the same ship, since they claim they always sail full, but now I get it. Best of luck with your cataract surgery.

Thanks for reading and your kind words. If you felt like you were there with us, then mission accomplished! :classic_biggrin:

My hubby had cataract surgery a few years ago. He went from wearing glasses for years to perfect 20/20 vision, and no glasses.

Thanks for that testimonial!  Gives me hope that soon I won't be seeing like I'm always in a steamy bathroom all the time! :classic_biggrin:

Thanks to you and Patti for your great review.  I have been following along because I, too, was on this cruise with you (NE/Canada).   I can see that you and Patti make the most out of your cruises and I think that’s wonderful.  I agree with you 100% about the crew on the Sunrise.  They were fantastic.  We thought the food was very good and our ocean view cabin was quite nice.  It was spacious and we had no complaints.  We worked around the lack of drawer space.

Will I cruise on the Sunrise again?  Probably not.  It just wasn’t my cup of tea.  The Lido area is a disaster in my opinion.  We went up there once for breakfast and the line was incredibly long.  We got a breakfast burrito from the Blue Iguana, which was fine.  But, after that, we only went up there to grab an iced tea or a piece of cake in the middle of the afternoon.  (Like, we needed cake - ha!).

Anyway, thanks for your review.  It looks like you had a great time.  We enjoyed our week, as well.

Thanks for reading! I hope it brought back some great memories. Did we get a chance to meet on board? Glad that for the most part you enjoyed the cruise. Was everything perfect? Heavens no, but Patti and I are kind of roll with the punches type of people.

I'm sure that this has a lot to do with Mikey. In our opinion, he's amazing. I always shook my head at people who gushed over Cruise Directors, but he really made our cruise on the Fantasy extra special, and I would definitely like to cruise with him again. I think he really knows how to engage the guests, but he also passes that along to his Fun Squad, who make the atmosphere special at every event.Thank you so much for your review, and I look forward to the next one!

Thanks so much for reading! We were impressed with Mikey right from the start when he said "My goal is to meet each and everyone of you during the course of this cruise",  at the Welcome Aboard Show. I really think he accomplished that.

Sharon, we are so sorry that a health issue caused you to cancel your vacation. Glad that our review helped keep your spirits up during this difficult time. Prayers coming your way in the hopes that you are well enough to cruise next month. Recovery at sea has to be much better than recovery at home!

The roof itself was fixed immediately. The hole in his bedroom ceiling was repaired by the following Monday. :classic_cool:

Really enjoyed this, Jeff. I hear you about sailing off-season, but we're still stuck with July and August. At least when I retire in 3 years we may be able to do a March cruise when DH has his school spring break. But next year is Radiance in August. At least, having sailed Sunrise, we know where the choke points are. And if we can't find a place to sit on Lido😉, we have an aft wrap so we can always eat on our balcony.

Taking out the Magrodome - I though about it and have figured they just don't want to be bothered with it. If there's a pool cover, people will expect it to be closed in bad weather. If there's no dome - no expectations, no extra work for the deck crew. The last day of our cruise on Sunrise it rained quite a lot in the morning, and the aft Lido area was soaked.

Hope you don't have to cancel your B2B Glory. She's our favorite Conquest-class ship. Thanks again for taking us along for the ride!

Thanks so much for following along once again. We are so glad that we don't have to cruise during peak times any more. On that note, I feel that if you know what to expect, you can work around just about any issue. Enjoy your cruise on the Radiance. I know that at some point we will check her out.

Since the Glory is Patti's favorite ship, we will find a way.

Jeff , I thank you for this great review. I just got off the Sunrise on 11/07 and your tips really helped us out on our trip - which was great. Eating at Guys Pig & Anchor on embarkation day, and cucina del capitano on other days was a life saver! The only line I ever waited in was at the deli on off hours. Thanks again!

It’s time for some food porn! Just a note here. When ordering our starters and mains, they also wanted us to order our desserts at the same time. We were both put off by this. Who knows if you’ll even want dessert until after you have finished the main course?

We were on the Sunshine the first week of October with YTD. 2 of our servers did this, the rest did not. We did hear a table near us ask if they could order after and their request was granted.

Thank you both again for all of the pics and for taking the time to report. I really enjoyed reading your final thoughts on this one and thought that they were very fair. I sailed on the Sunshine not long after she was refurbished, during spring break (I’m a teacher, so yep, I’m pretty limited to those dreadful peak times!) and definitely wouldn’t do *that* again! 😬 I’m glad to see that the Sunrise has been tweaked a bit, especially in the layout of the Limelight Lounge and in keeping the aft pool (though I agree removing the retractable roof is a bit puzzling).

Fingers crossed your surgeries go well, and that you have enough left in the bank to make it to NOLA next spring! 🙂

Thanks again, Jamman for such a wonderful review. I was so impressed with your summation of the ship. You have the ability to point out the pros and cons without being negative or mean. You did a fabulous job. They truly ought to put you on the payroll at Carnival.

Your writing style along with Patty’s pictures make the review seem as though the readers are there with you. I have been reading your reviews for years and if possible, they only get better !i can’t begin to imagine all the hours you put into these reviews, but please know they are greatly appreciated ! Thank you and Patty again.

by the way, don’t worry about your cataract surgery. I had it done on both my eyes when I was only 50, but it made a world of difference ! Wishing you luck.

Jeff (and Patti too), I always enjoy a good Jamman54 review, and Patti, I love seeing your great pictures.  It took me a while to get through this one since we were in FL for 11 days from mid-October and just getting settled back in at home.  But I'm sure you know all about that.  I'm really sorry that you didn't get to Bermuda this time around, but this was still an awesome review.  I do hope you can make it work to go on Glory out of New Orleans.  We've been to NOLA twice (land vacations, not cruising) and LOVE it.  I can't wait to get back & am hoping to cruise from there.  I know it's year away but I'm already looking forward to your review of your Mardi Gras cruise.  That is going to be a beautiful ship and I can't wait to see what she looks like.  Thank you again for another review and for helping with these major cruise withdrawals I'm going through.  Last was in Sep. 2015, but there is light at the end of the tunnel...Carnival Magic next May.

Hey Megan! Thanks for jumping on board once again and for your kind words. I try to do a balanced review, and call them as I see them. Patti and I can pretty much adjust to any situation.

For many years we were also tied to the "peak " periods, so now that we're not it's a different ballgame. You'll get there some day. 😀
