We were there last week.  Same old stores, shops  a few restaurants and bars.  Nothing special.

The best thing at the pier is that large ship docked next to it 🤗

happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

We on on the Edge in March 2020 stopping in Tortola.  We are taking a 4 hour excursion to JVD and wondered about what we can do near the Pier with the rest of our time (sightseeing, shopping, etc)

Our cruise is next Saturday & we're doing the same excursion as you.  I'll post about what to do at the Tortola pier when we get back.  I'm not expecting much though.

An alternative is to take one of the open air port"taxis" to either the beach or to tour the island. Tortola is quite mountainous with twisting, curving roads.  Beautiful. There is a spice store about 3 blocks from the port that we have found interesting.

Stopped in Tortola about 5 years ago and took the open air taxi to the beach, Cane Garden Bay.  It was one of the scariest rides I have taken.  From the cruise ship you have to go over the mountain to get to the beach.  The roads are steep and winding, with few guard rails.  We took a van to go back to the pier and closed our eyes and prayed.  The van driver told us that he needs to have his brakes replaced every 2 weeks because of the rides back and forth over the mountain.  Never again!

We loved hanging out at the pier area before  and after our  tour. There was a great coffee shop,  lots of nice outdoor  spaces to eat and drink and small stores with  nice  merchandise..very friendly people.

the Botanical Garden is not too far.

.( not in the mounains)  but you would need a cab and a way back..

We love Tortola.. They need folks to visit as they come back from the storm damage!  Enjoy!

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got off the Equinox this past Saturday.  Jost Van Dyke excursion is GREAT!!  Highly recommend it.

As far as things to do right at the pier in Tortolla, there's not much.  There's high end shops & a few restaurants, but other than that, nothing.  We just got right back on the ship.  Right after they diverted us THROUGH the shopping area of course.  😉

Depends on your tolerance for walking.  We walked to the Botanical Garden, and walked back.  We took the longer way there and it was a 30 minute walk.  We took the shorter way back and it was a 20 minute walk.  To the OP - the garden is nice, but small, and only costs $3USD.  The walk is on flat ground so it is an easy walk.
