Howdy Topdog52! emo22.gif

Welcome to Cruise Critic and thank you for your first post on the Cruise Blogs & Websites forum! 👍

However, your post is off-topic here. This forum is for members to share their personal travelogue-type cruise-related blogs or websites with their fellow Cruise Critic members.

Since your new thread concerns a particular North American Homeport, I have moved your thread to the East Coast Departures forum where it will be on-topic. That is where you will find discussions concerning hotels, transportation, dining & embarkation.

Cruise Critic is a great resource and we are so glad you found us! emo34.gif  Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community Categories list. Read a few threads in the forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads on the top of the first page of threads in a forum. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Please remember the following stated in the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

Anytime you do start a new thread on any forum, first make sure you are on the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information they will reply to you. It is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic or concerning one cruise line, ship, port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. emo3.gif  You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your inquiry. That helps the members to have the information they need in order to help you.

For finding fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you on your cruise, please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call .

The Roll Call thread for your cruise is the place for you to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you before the cruise. Also, your fellow Roll Call members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread. Your Roll Call thread is the ONLY place on Cruise Critic where you and your fellow Roll Call members may post personal ads about sharing tours, excursions, transportation etc. with each other. There is a "captive audience" since you are all sailing together! emo3.gif You will receive a much better response to your share request if you take some time to read the entire Roll Call thread, post an introductory post about yourself, and continue on to get to know the other members and allow them to get to know YOU first before you post your share request. That is the spirit of our Roll Calls.

And don't forget, after your cruise be sure to go to our Member Cruise Reviews section and submit your review for publication!

I sincerely hope this information will be helpful to a new member and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! emo35.gif

Happy sails,

Host Kat emo32.gif

Do you know if you walk straight across 12th to pier 90 or do you go in by the terminal building down at 55th street?

If you're on foot you can walk across 12th Ave at 50th St. for Pier 90, or at 48th St. for Pier 88. It's only motor vehicles that enter at 55th St.

With regard to your original question, there is a Holiday Inn Express at 538 W. 48th St. and a Comfort Inn at 548 W. 48th St. For a more upscale hotel, there's the Kimpton Ink48 at 653 11th Ave.

Google maps puts ink48 at .7 miles, 14 minute walk. Personally I’d prefer to be dropped off than schlep my luggage on crowded sidewalks.

I think you're looking at driving distance. Walking distance to Pier 90 is 0.3 miles on Google Maps.

And the $15 or so you might save by walking would be unlikely to cover the cost of replacing luggage wheels damaged by trundling while saving that cab fare.  Those little wheels are meant for gliding on smooth airport terrazzo, not cracked cement sidewalks and potholed streets.

Is there a separate entrance for Haven passengers at the Manhattan terminal ?  Gerry

I assume you mean NCL's Haven.

There's no separate entrance to the cruise terminal. Once inside when you identify yourself as a Haven passenger you'll be directed to a separate check in area and waiting room.

Does anyone recommend a hotel in Manhatten?

There are hundreds of hotels in Manhattan . Something for every budget and something in every neighborhood.  Earlier in the thread because you asked about hotels close to the cruise terminal I identified three...two chain hotels, Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Inn on West 48th St., and an upscale hotel, Ink48. If you want more recommendations you need to provide information like your budget, area you want to stay in, the date of your stay, number of people in your party, bedding requirements, etc.

My wife would like to visit ground zero and the museum. I would like to keep it around $250 a night. I should also mention I am a Bonvoy and IHG member so I have been checking into some of those hotels. The New York Marriott Downtown seems like a good fit and Bill's Bar and Burger looks inviting. But I am open to any suggestions.

Downtown sounds like a much better fit than by the cruise port.

Prices vary wildly by date, Topdog.  A $350 hotel today will likely be $150 in two weeks.

You really should skim the existing threads for ideas and info on how to find properties that would work best for you.  Jumping from "walking distance" to "wanting to visit X and Y" makes it harder to help.

More details are always important like exact date for hotel room, number of people, bed size requirements, and hotel budget. Method of arrival (plane, train car, bus) and sightseeing plans can also be a factor.

So far we understand 2 people, $250 hotel budget, and the 911 Memorial & Museum.  Exact date is important because there are often deals for downtown hotels on the weekend as the hotels in this area primarily accommodate business travelers Sun-Thur nights at higher prices.

Thank You. I can check for prices periodically as I am a member of Marriott and IHG. I was just looking for some recommendations for some nice hotels just in case I don't stay close to the terminal. As we all know  Hotels are pricey in Manhatten and some make their hotel look great on their website but when you get there it is a different story. I was just wondering about Hotels around ground Zero that were friendly, clean and had some other things to do around it.
