This does not stop you from spreading it to people in the vulnerable categories.  Quit being so selfish.

Is it not up to the vulnerable people to not put themselves in a high risk situation? According to you no one should cruise because they may spread the virus to someone else. In that case one could make the argument that the cruise lines should cancel all cruises and sideline their ships until this blows over... not going to happen.

Indeed if you are young, or biologically young you got low risk, if you are old or chronologically old and unhealthy then you have a lot to worry about.

Death rate by age:

Well, we’re 83 and 86. It’s scary to be constantly told we’re in the highest risk category for COVID-19.

We’re cruising at the end of the month. If we make it down I95.

The curve is scary, but I could argue if you plotted many things by age; fall, flu, stroke, heart attack, etc it would look similar, the larger statistic that is hard to gather is how many people catch it when exposed.   Clearly chronological age is important but what lies beneath it is biological age, you can be 80, fit or 50 and diabetic and unfit and your risk profile totally opposite,  stay safe and healthy !

i believe at any age as long as you are informed do what makes you have no regrets, life is short, live life like you might die tomorrow but at the same time also like you got another few decades or more, enjoy that cruise, the reality is it will likely be super empty and actually safer than your local Costco or emergency health clinic

Royal Caribbean is not being fair to their customers. We have a cruise in April to Hong Kong and China and we know this will not go ahead but any enquires to Royal get the reply the cruise is going ahead with no changes. We could cancel and get a credit but in order to get our flights, accomodation etc refunded we need the cruise to be cancelled. It will get cancelled but probably at short notice with no time to organise alternatives. The feeling amongst cruisers is that other lines are giving more notice and thereby creating more goodwill.

What notice are the other lines giving?  I don’t see anyone cancelling itineraries a month out, but maybe I’m missing it.

I agree with the over hype but the issue is that Princess ships are in the media whether the virus was transmitted from land, air or sea. As usual the cruise industry is being targeted.

This is so true and it's crazy. We are sailing May 9 and I just got a call from one of my people wanting to cancel, not a problem for me because I will not have to deal with their paranoia, however, I agree that the cruise industry is being targeted right now and it's so sad.

GTO-girl, how did you find out about that? I'm going on Horizon from Miami on 3/29 and I cant get anyone from Carnival to get back to me about my options.

Finally received our email this morning.   If you haven’t gotten yours yet I’m sure it will at some point.

If you feel this way, you should stay home then. You are way out of line telling me how to live my life.............

Sorry I forgot about this thread.  I'm not telling you how to live your life.  Science and statistics (ie not fake news) are telling us that humans in close proximity are catastrophic in situations like this.  If you choose to continue to do so despite being offered 21 months to rebook your cruise for a time when hopefully this is no longer an issue is selfish.  I'm not telling you how to live your life.  You choosing to put yourself in situations that puts others health at risk is nothing but selfish.

Without a doubt if profits were not a consideration every cruise would and should be cancelled.  My parents are vulnerable people.  I have encouraged them and they have agreed not to travel during this period of heightened risk.  This does not stop a healthy 30 year old who works at their local grocery store from going on a cruise and bring it back to the community so the next time they go pickup their groceries they are exposed to the virus.

So we should roll ourselves up in a 6 foot condom and stay in our living room or we are SELFISH! You need to get a grip.

Here, I will post this again in case you missed it

Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Abdu Sharkawy................

I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared.

I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19.

What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they " probably don't have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know..." and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess.

I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games...that could be kyboshed too. Can you even imagine?

I'm scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession.

But mostly, I'm scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested.

Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors and "fight for yourself above all else" attitude could prove disastrous.

I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let's meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing.

Facts not fear. Clean hands. Open hearts. Our children will thank us for it.

No, but I am not as concerned because so far nobody on a cruise ship on the Atlantic side has tested positive for the virus. I imagine that airports like LAX and San Francisco have a lot of international travelers and flying into one of those airports at this time doesn't sound appealing to me.
If multiple cruise ships out of Florida start having the same issues, I will revise my plans accordingly.  But I won't worry about something that may never happen.

You forgot about Anthem out of Bayonne in late January/early February.  If you mentioned the Southern portion of the Atlantic you'd be right.
