I know a lot of people don't like because they feel they are not as private as others but we hardly saw our neighbors. We were just in cabin 7660. If you go with deck 8 or 9 you definitely want to avoid this crew ladder obstruction on starboard side. I think it may be on port side too We have one of these extended balconies in 10 days. I didn’t want it but it was the only balcony left. We’ll see how it goes but it looks like minimal privacy and you can’t see down into the water. It’s better than an ocean view.

None of is feeling well, but here is how it went down. At 745am. There is a knock on our door. It's one Woman Royal Caribbean employee. She says are you ready. Now it's up to my Wife and to lug our 3 large suit cases and 2 back packs from our mid ship cabin 8610 to the forward elevators to go down and sit and wait.We were the first ones to arrive. Here is where all of us will wait. It took almost an hour to round everyone up before the immigration people came into the room.. There was about 30 people in there that were confirmed for Covid. Once cleared an Royal employee escorted us down to Deck 2 and dumped us out where the crew enter and exit the ship After dumped on land it was a long walk to where Uber pick ups were at. Granted we are in our early 60's so we managed. But it was easy. Rest of people were in wheel chairs or walkers, others were older then us. Seems that thought just get them off the ship and they are on their own. Learning now many more from the FB group are now coming down with covid also. That's horrible they didn't help with luggage or provide a Cart, especially when you're sick. Did the crew and immigration/customs people have masks on? How are you feeling now? I heard there were some covid positive on our sailing too. No idea how many. Guess it will be a regular thing every fall like flu season. mets07 Posted September 29, 2023 #104232 Share Posted September 29, 2023 The entire departure for Jewel was long at Bayonne today. Everyone had to show their passports (vs. facial recognition), however they also pointed cameras at everyone's faces. Not sure why this was going on vs. normal quick facial recognition process. @Jimbo hope you guys feel better soon. I did not hear one word of Covid on ship until I saw your report on Cruise Critic.

While we needed to be escorted separately off of the ship, there were helpers for those that needed help with luggage from their cabin, and all luggage was taken down to the pier ahead of our departure from the lounge we gathered in. So sorry that didn't happen for @Jimbo Our passports were collected the day before departure, and handed back to us at disembarkation so we could be escorted directly off of the ship.

Hope you have a great cruise.

Ocean Boy Posted September 29, 2023 #104239 Share Posted September 29, 2023 I got covid on Odyssey last January. I didn't know I had it until the day after I got home. I don't think anyone should be surprised if they get it on a ship. I think the elevators are traps. People crowd in and also seem to feel the need to talk which blows whatever is in their respiratory system into the air. One thing that really annoys me no matter where I am is when people have a ridiculous need to whistle. Firstly, I can stand the sound and, secondly, again it blows whatever might be incubating in their respiratory systems that much further into the area. It is going to be an interesting winter on the ships. We will see how the cruise lines handle it.

We did a ship excursion on Grand Cayman that we really enjoyed (thankfully well air-conditioned coaches). We stayed on the ship in Aruba. I was so bummed to miss Coco Cay (for the 3rd time!!).

You are correct, no facial recognition at Boston terminal. We got stuck in a long line that didn't move for quite awhile. Any idea how many on our sailing had covid? I'm guessing many more may have had it and not reported to medical, based upon the coughing, etc. we heard early on during the cruise. We always travel with Covid tests and appropriate meds just in case. I was grateful we were offered Paxlovid-- I declined due to mild symptoms, but my husband is at higher risk. He had virtually no symptoms once he started on Paxlovid.

Unfortunately my DH cannot do more than one flight of steps, so we tried to avoid overly-crowded elevators and wait for one that was less crowded. I'm always worried about my DH since he is a transplant recipient and try to steer him away when I hear a bunch of coughers. Did they move you from your original cabin to a quarantine cabin?

Did they move you from your original cabin to a quarantine cabin? Thankfully we were able to stay in our balcony cabin. I'm not sure they are doing quarantine cabins any more. I'm guessing someone could break the rules and leave their cabin, but we wouldn't even consider such a thing. Oddly enough, my DH was told he could leave the cabin after I was diagnosed and he was asymptomatic. We chose not do that, as it didn't seem like sound advice. We were allowed to order from MDR for lunch/dinner (but not breakfast for some reason). My DH had the refreshment package so we got lots of water and soda delivered with meals. I was also given internet for the remainder of the cruise (my DH already had the internet package). We masked when meals were delivered or when our cabin steward brought ice/towels. We certainly didn't want to spread to anyone else!! Edited September 29, 2023 by Gardener5b added information

I wish I didn’t have to rely on th elevators but I will have to use them extensively on our October cruise as my left knee just can’t do well on stairs unless I do on stair at a time with my other knee. I look weird doing stairs that way. Takes me forever.
Gardener5b Posted September 29, 2023 #104250 Share Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) @Sea Dog Maybe keep a mask in your pocket for when you need to use the elevator. The elevators were way overcrowded on our cruise; it might provide a bit of protection. Edited September 29, 2023 by Gardener5b
