REFUNDS - How To Get Yours!

My parents were booked through a TA.....that TA has since laid off all staff so no one to deal with anything....

I’m sorry to hear that. That is difficult to deal with because the cruise line doesn’t want to talk to you because you booked thru a TA.  Hopefully they will be more helpful since these are extraordinary circumstances.

I asked this on another thread, was looking for an answer from a travel agent? Just how soon are they getting commissions on all the canceled cruises their client has booked?

Here is the question I asked?

"

How long can the cruiseline keep offering the travel agents commission on a canceled cruises when people are stilling waiting for refunds? Doesn't seem fair to have customers still waiting for their refunds?

A travel agent could stack up commissions from the same customer multiple times before a ship sails.

Say you have one customer who had a cruise in March canceled, rebooks  for May and has that canceled, then rebooks for June and that is canceled, that means agent get 3 commissions? How can the cruiseline keep paying out like  that? "

What about all the work the travel agents are doing in rebooking cruises, taking care of cancelled Sailings, calling the cruise line on behalf of their clients. . . Should the travel agents be working for nothing?  Travel agents work on Commission only.  Their jobs are not easy, ecpescialy now with changes on every cruise line.  TA are only getting paid on cruises that were paid in full.  And only on cruises that were cancelled 30 days before sailing ( in other words cruises that were in 100% cancellation timeframe).

I am kind of unique with my situation because  everything happened at the same time. Today is the 30 day mark from my sailing date as well as the 30 day mark of RCCL cancelling my cruise as well as the 30 day mark of me requesting a refund instead of 125% FCC.  I have received nothing.....no emails, no phone calls, no refunds...absolutely nothing but crickets.

Commission is protected on all bookings cancelled under the Cruise with confidence program.

Will Travel Partner commissions be protected for guests who choose to cancel their existing reservation?
Yes, travel partner commission will be protected on both the cancelled booking and the future reservation where the correlating Future Cruise Credit is applied. Please note that commission protection will only occur on cancelled reservations that are paid in full, fall within the final payment window, and where guests have opted to take advantage of the Cruise with Confidence FCC option. If a guest misses the cancellation deadline of 48-hours prior to the sail date and requests a late cancellation, full penalties will be assessed, and commission will be protected.

My cancelled cruise is still two weeks away, i was told the refund would be processed at the time the cruise was set for debarkation.  Works for me. If I don't see it the week of the 26th, I'll ring my TA and have him look into it

RC cancelled our 3/22 Oasis cruise on 3/13. We submitted request for a refund that night. We have a screenshot saying 30 days. I did call on 3/24 to make sure they had our request. They said we submitted it on the 17th and would be 30 days from that. We then filed a dispute with our credit card, and within hours the credit card put the money in our account. We shouldn’t be paying interest on what we owed on our card due to RC. Thankful for our Visa card!

Looks like a win, win situation for the travel agents, just a normal day for them, but not a normal day for the customers that have to wait for full refunds and FCC's. Doesn't seem fair does it or normal anymore does it?

The commission being protected will in reality last for about 3 months as very few are booking anything that they suspect will be cancelled.  For every booking that is protected TA’s are losing many many more where the clients are cancelling before final payment.  As well as losing very few are making new bookings for the rest of this year.  On top of all that TA’s are working like crazy dealing with both customers and travel partners to get everything resolved.

So glad that you found a new hobby in bashing everything about travel agents.  Happy sailing.

I thought a read somewhere on this forum years ago that if you challenged RCL via your credit card they blacklisted you for future cruises.  Now I don't know if that's true but that's what I "thought" I read.

We made final payment on our cruise for a June 7 cruise out of New York just before this happened.  I already had two thousand dollars tied up in the deposits at the time of final payment.  Since this will be canceled (probably tomorrow), I am considering disputing the final payment charges with my credit card company.  I did this with a cruise that I had paid for that was to leave in March.  Since it was booked close to the date, I was still within the time frame to dispute the charge.  I did dispute it and it was refunded within two days.

I am wondering, if I dispute the final payment charges, will I still get a refund on the deposit or will I get a FCC?  I am trying to decide what to do before my time frame to dispute has passed.  I don't want to take the chance that they go bankrupt and we can really use the money right now as everyone has been getting hours cut in our house.

I have also read that if you dispute the charges, you can be blacklisted.  However, I think this is a different situation.  That is when you have a non refundable cruise and change your mind.  You dispute the charges and they can blacklist you.  This we just a payment that I just made and would like to have it back since I will not be getting the service I paid for based on their decision.

Royal has 10months of liquidity according to a major investment firm.  They aren’t in any danger of going bankrupt in the short term.

Does anyone know if there's a different policy for Casino Royale bookings?  I have 2 reserved and one of them is in September and has a $500 non-refundable rate applied......but it was a super deal.   Should I go the same route as others and play the waiting game of RCCL cancelling the cruise or is there a different approach to casino sailings?

Not sure what’s going to happen to comp cruises. In the past, I don’t believe cruises cancelled for Hurricanes, the certificates where not restored. No dollar value on the comp cruise. But honestly, who knows what might happen.

@John&LaLa  you might have some info on this.

Not bashing, just trying to understand how it works.

Our cruise wasn't canceled it was shortened due to Noro on Oasis.  It was the annual comped Prime cruise. Royal gave an FCC for maybe 25%, and gave OBC to cover the last day.

On top of that, ClubRoyale gave Laura the certificate back and she used that a few months later.

YMMV

I think LaLa manages a lot better perks than the rest of us. Lol

I am pushing That 30 day mark I had few thousand dollars of excursions booked and all the money  for our Europe cruise I cancelled those the night before I cancelled the cruise still nothing . I started to call my CC company to see my options. They aren't even working unless you card is stolen. Since this wasn't a fraud yet I figured no sense waiting on hold forever for them to tell me what I basically already know . Just wait it out .
