Bummed Out

Recommended Posts

We had our 9/26 cruise canceled and expect the 10/3 cruise to go also next month as well as a 11/28 cruise out of san juan that we booked in 2018. We are going to wait until September to see if October 3 cruise is cancelled. If, and that's a big if, it stays, we will use the fcc to get a last minute deal on a cruise b2b in October after our 10/3 cruise. If they fall through, we will take the refunds. I was hoping the cruise lines would just cancel all of 2020 today to make it easier but that didn't happen. No big deal. We can easily move our airline tickets so we will wait until the end of July for the next round.  I agree that at this point it makes no sense to book in 2020 unless the cruise is in 1 day!  I honestly didn't think this would linger into the fall, but I should have expected it given the inconsistency of the information and guidelines from everywhere.

Some of you may remember that when you were a kid and wanted that one gift. Unfortunately you never received it.

Then as an adult you made up for that "one" gift by buying possibly "two" of them.

Same analogy here. It will "Eventually" happen. We will Cruise again!!!

There is a certain amount of relief after getting the official cancellation of our cruise after a couple of months of stressing on it.  After all this, the hubs is already looking to rebook.  Oy vey.  Here we go again.  I think I'm just going to turn everything over to him and he can let me know when and where we are going a few days in advance of leaving.  LOL.

Just pack a "go bag" that's ready & waiting for him to spring it on you. 😉 "Flight leaves in a few hours. GO GO GO!"

I just got off the phone with Carnival after being on hold for almost two hours.  Because my rebooked cruise was a casino rate, they had to switch me to that department after holding for the first hour.

Anyway, they were able to take care of everything.  The FCC for my cancelled cruise was slightly over the cabin cost of my rebooked cruise, so I got around $120 as an OBC.  The cancelled cruise was a lot more expensive than my rebooked cruise, so I didn't owe as much for my new cruise.

My rebooked cruise is paid in full.  I will get around $1,000 refund on my credit card.  I have a $600 OBC and a $120 OBC.  I will also hopefully receive a $100 stockholder's OBC.  It's the best deal I have ever had on a cruise, if it sails.

Super congrats! Persistence on the phone paid off!   👍

Thanks.  I knew I would have a large refund, so I figured the sooner I call the better.  As far as my cruise on January 2nd, we may fly in two days early and celebrate New Year's  Eve in Miami.  That would be fun.

The cruise industry is in free fall

It sure seems like it.  I think the lines should try to ease back in to cruising with shorter cruises.  Maybe 3 day cruises to start.  If those go well, ease into 4 and 5 day.

They are trying to put on a happy face, but they are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic

I haven't even dealt with my cancellation yet, but I tried to book october and October is grayed out too, so cant make oct 4th a b2b.

99.9% I will just ask for a refund. Been depressed all day and frustrated. It might say thru sept, so why is october grayed out from Galveston? I've had it up to here with cruises at the moment.

Listen, I'm with you!  Feeling like stepping back is the only way to keep from falling into more of a depressed state.  I'm bummed with 2020 in general...

When I tune out all the noise, I feel so much better.  Maybe you will too. 🙂

That's how I am. First time I've even been on cc today, just checking and gone today.

Need a break from the noise here.

My next is oct 4th. We seem to be following each other

I also read today roatan says no cruisers in 2020 so if you have a 2020 cruise going there that doesnt get cancelled at best will be rerouted. Roatan president said today shut 2020 to cruisers.

I selected FCC, and have a cruise ready to book. How does the credit work? Do I have to call?

What I did since I book usually through carnival was I did a 48 hour hold (now I think it is 96 hours) so that I could get a booking # and then when I call Carnival, I have an existing reservation.  I found this way was much quicker.  But you can also do it through the new bookings.  You must call to have the FCC applied.  You cannot do it through the website.  Also, do not get off of the phone until you have it confirmed that the OBC is on your new reservation!!  Otherwise, you will be on hold for a few hours...and we all have been there in the past few months!!

I am not sure how long it takes when you select it online.  I felt more comfortable calling so that I knew it would get handled correctly.  If you call them, they can take care of everything and send an email confirmation right away.  After I got off the phone, I checked my email and it was there.  Then I logged on to my account and everything was updated.  I printed my documents and even my OBCs were there.

Before i called, I already had my new cruise booked with a deposit.  But some people say that they have simply put a hold on their new cruise.  I needed to give the Carnival person my cancelled cruise booking number and my new cruise booking number.

I might even hear a band somewhere playing Nearer My God to Thee....Time to find a new ship.  The Magic in January. That's the ticket.

Thank you for the responses. I wanted to avoid calling, but oh well. I have 2 cruises being held, so I will call tomorrow and hope the wait isn't too long.

I hate calling too, but it really gets the job done.  The first time my cruise was cancelled, I called early one morning and was only on hold for 10 minutes.  I was on hold for nearly two hours today.  Ugh.  At least it's been done.

My Mardi Gras Cruise is December 2020. Possibly will push it to July 2021 disappointing but looking forward to next year. Looking at everything that’s still going on it’s hard but I have to purposefully disconnect. Y’all stay safe and let’s get through this!!! 😉

This, unfortunately.

I spent most of April & May avoiding the forum. Popped in every few days hoping to see a thread to participate in that talked about something other than COVID, negative speculations, or how evil Carnival is, but that's pretty much all it was, so I logged in & out within minutes. It was refreshing seeing things turn around on here this past month, but now another bomb has gone off, so it looks like another break is in order.

I feel for the people who've been cancelled multiple times. I'm sure it's a defeating feeling. We're booked in early Jan. and, at this point in time, I'm still choosing to remain confident that it'll happen.

I did the same thing. It is depressing. We are also booked in January, but like I’ve said before, I go back and forth on if, when, why, how it will or won’t happen. 😞

They've been very strict throughout this entire ordeal. They immediately stopped allowing any and all non-residents onto the island. I was reading someone's comments on another site who lives there and as of last Wednesday, residents were still on strict home lockdown and most businesses were closed. Still no inbound flights. We'll be there in 2022 for the first time. Have heard good things about that stop, so looking forward to it.
