The larger HAL ships seem to stock in for breakfast in the Lido Restaurant. Ships like the Volendam, I have yet to find it. Cannot get it where I live, even working with a specialty grocer. Same thing with a delicious cheese that I enjoyed made in Tasmania. Speaking to the Manager about these items, one would have thought that I had recently arrived from the Star Trek's Enterprise. Hi RK, Just go to a Hispanic grocery. You will find plenty of guava juice as well as mango, papaya, passion fruit, peach, apricot, etc.

Most seem to be connected to a restaurant and most seem to be Mexican oriented. I will need to spend some time on the phone with these establishments if they have what I would like. Thanks! misha227 Posted July 11, 2021 #12 Share Posted July 11, 2021 Oooh, guava! I'll have to ask for that the next time I'm on HAL! I usually eat in the MDR, unless I'm going on an excursion and then it's room service.... My usual is pineapple juice.

So we stay for the usual Cranberry, Apple or Prune if the need arises.

It's a Guava Nectar that is, I think, slightly "thicker" than the juice that I have had on a HAL ship. (Probably, HAL diluted the puree to make it more "juicy"?) Whatever, it is delicious and is as close as I am going to get to drink that juice locally. The larger HAL ships have a wider variety of juices available in the Lido Restaurant than ships such as Volendam and Zaandam. Even on the larger vessels in the MDR for breakfast when I have asked for such--and I knew Guava Juice was available in the Lido Restaurant--not available was the response. I can get Guava anytime I would like from a brand called Goya. They have many juices that are exactly as you describe. thick in nature which is of a puree level. Mango, Pineapple, Peach, Passion Fruit and Guanabana to name them. You will not see any loss of consistency. I was first introduced to Guava in Hawaii on vacation at breakfast and been in love with it and glad available anytime.
misha227 Posted July 12, 2021 #16 Share Posted July 12, 2021 The Goya I have found is not pure juice...its second ingredient, after water, is High Fructose Corn Syrup. Ew. I do not mind the water, but I draw the line at HFCS. Even a little cane sugar I could forgive...but certainly not as the second ingredient! Since it is hard to get pure guava juice we enjoy what is available at the time. Except if you vacation in Dominica. This juice tasted just like what was offered in Hawaii the first time. Many products on the market are doctored.... Bon Voyage....

Maybe one day I will try. Bet u I will have to dilute it and add sweeter a bit.

Maybe because it is imported from Spain, a bottle costs about $2.00 more than a carton of OJ like Florida's Natural. Worth the price to me. I get tired of OJ, Tomato Juice, V-8 every morning. Just not that often but will have it once in a while. Will have a glass and then rest turn it into a Orangeade (with water)...

Was a regular purchaser of Gaviscon. Mentioned this to my PCP during an annual physical, he sent me to a gastrointestinal specialist and he diagnosed Barrett's Esophagus. Prescribed a medicine that I continue to take daily. Yearly checks on the Esophagus' condition show that it's stable. A CAT Scan that I had in early July for a different issue reported that the Esophagus was "unremarkable", so it remains in acceptable condition. Thanks to that medicine, no more Gaviscon! We are or were in the boat sort of. I too have BE being treated with a morning med and bedtime med. BE as of the last 2 endo's. New GI now and see what the next endo will show and advice. DW is on Gav now with same GI guy. But like everyone else would like to enjoy all future trips, OJ, Cranberry or whatever.

I HATE those exams and was very pleased when my recent CAT Scan had the "unremarkable" comment about the condition of my Esophagus. At my age, I am done with such exams. What's the point? It enriches the medical personnel that do them and increases the costs charged to my medical insurance which then could have an impact on the cost of my health insurance.
