I think that what is rational to you and me isn't necessarily rational to someone else. The problem is when people close their minds for whatever reason and that's that. Or they end up in an echo chamber that confirms their bias. I've already encountered people who start arguments with store employees asserting that wearing a mask is: ineffective, a constitutional violation, not a legal requirement, a liberal fallacy, etc., etc., etc.

 

There have been studies that show people, in general, are terrible at assessing risk. For example, it has long been proven that smoking can cause cancer, but some people take up smoking anyway. Speeding has been shown to increase the risk of injury or death, but people speed anyway. But when a relatively small number of Chipotle restaurants have some foodborne illness outbreaks that make the news, everyone freaks out and stops eating at any of the stores. Until they forget or stop caring. It just is what it is.

Hum. The virus isn’t spread by body fluids nor does mine touch the the urinal.😇 Not sure why it needs to be cleaned or sanitize between use.

The truth is, nobody really knows if wearing a mask helps.  All they really know is that it doesn't hurt.  But like @fandash I'm done with the mask debate.  People think what they think...and that's ok with me.

 

 

 

The biggest misconception is that Masks provide protection for yourself.  They provide limited protection to you but they provide a good amount of protection when used properly to others.  

 

Therein lies the problem with this Virus.  Its not about what we do to protect ourselves from this virus but its about what we do for others to protect them from the Virus.

 

When I walk down the street and I move to side when approaching someone or when I wear my mask in a crowded indoor area, I am saying to the others, I am respecting you as I person and my actions are for keeping you safe as much as for keeping myself safe.  

 

If someone fell on the street or if a little old lady dropped all her groceries on the street, most of us here wouldn't hesitate to help.  But yet when we are asked to wear a mask, in most cases only for a short period of time in the higher risk areas, we are defiant.

Believe it or not, the virus is present in Fecal matter.  They are testing wastewater in some towns in Europe for the presence and prevalence of the Virus

There is a gambling casino in NY that has a urinal that can be used by many people at the same time.When I was a kid in school that was the only kind of urinal that was everywhere.I have been in the casino bathroom with guys on either side spraying and my shoes have gotten wet.If I was wearing shorts my legs could possibly have gotten wet.

The venerable Dr. Fauci also said that though case numbers are up death numbers are dropping yet he doesn't view this as relieving. My question to him would be then how, exactly, would herd immunity ever occur in a population that has no vaccine for a disease that isn't likely to just disappear?

 

Once again, the intent was to not overwhelm the medical system and protect the most vulnerable.  It was never to prevent new cases from occuring.

 

The big difference between Fauci and many other experts is his high profile. Just because he speaks does not make it so.

It’s a given, masks and social distancing will be part of any agreement that will allow cruising to resume. If the cruise line can’t, or haven’t got the intestinal fortitude to enforce it, they won’t be sailing for long. Not back to square 1, back to square -5, and probably bankruptcy.

The reason why I mentioned it is that I'm in charge of managing the budgets for the Wastewater treatment facilities in our region and we have had some dialogue with our health authorities to help them with a study on this.

 

I do have to on occasion visit these facilities to do inventory counts, Financial mgmt. training etc.. and yep its not a place I would want to work in all the time.

Not so. Go to the data. There are good studies out there that indicate mask wearing makes a difference.

 

Non N95 masks like those worn by the mayor of Atlanta do not provide a high degree of protection for the wearer. The primary reason for wearing one is to protect others. This is not opinion, check the data. Anyone may label themselves an expert. Check the actual data and those that rely on data.
