And speaking of the cruise industry as a whole, here is the opinion of a crisis communication  specialist (written for the cruise executives) as to the importance of communication for cruises to survive

https://www.maritime-executive.com/editorials/oped-what-it-will-take-for-the-cruise-industry-to-survive

Some quotes:

"the present crisis can be seen as a great opportunity as it might force the whole industry and all stakeholders hard to do something that they maybe should have done much earlier:

  • listening even more carefully to the critics

  • taking criticism more seriously

  • including elements of criticism in the communication strategy instead of reflexively negating them and/or primarily entering and persisting into a mode of defense and justification

  • increased use of elements of surprise such as demonstrating understanding, respect, even gratitude for the criticism expressed and, above all, courage for alleged weakness by admitting openly, in addition to the compiled catalog of killer counterarguments, that solutions are still not yet found for every challenge everywhere - but that hard work at it is in progress

  • entering into a dialogue with the "enemies", inviting even more of the sharpest critics for looks behind the scenes to terminals and ships and showing how professionally measures are implemented (yes, there is ISPS, and yet, there is the need to open up shipping more to the public - the IMO, after all, is calling to improve the image of shipping since decades!)

  • pursuing a proactive communication policy, characterized by more tangible empathy, sensitivity to criticism, perhaps a little more modesty and transparency. "

Wouldn't that be a breath of fresh air in the cruise industry?

Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) UK placed in Administration.  All their cruises are cancelled.  UK passengers could be covered by ABTA or ATOL.

Any Aussies have current bookings or waiting for refunds from CMV?

That is really sad and perhaps the sign of things to come. I hope any Aussies are able to get their money back.

This company had a great World Cruise every year, and very reasonably priced compared to other World Cruises with other companies.

Not ethical selling cruises on the weekend and go into administration the next day.

Up til you go into administration you're in business.

You can't stop business because you might go into administration. Nobody plans to go into administration.

So sad to hear this.  Did cruise from Singapore to Tilbury UK in 2018 on Columbus, previously Pacific Pearl.  Below standards of Princess world cruise but less than half the price.  Saw so many wonderful places.

Only last weekend I was looking at a Kimberly cruise on Vasco da Gamma as it seemed likely these would be first itineraries to open up.... and I've always wanted to cruise WA.

Happy now I didn't pull the trigger as letters from Administrators on CMV website do not sound encouraging for Aussies.

We got an email offering fantastic cruise prices for them 2 hours after we found out they were under administration, IN the UK, some TAs were still selling the cruises and people had signed up, after they had gone into administration. That is unethical.

WE were on one, not any more.

Not in Australia. It’s called trading whilst insolvent, meaning you know you can’t pay debts versus liabilities and income.

I saw the article about positive news for CMV relaunching in Adelaide just a couple of weeks ago and was relieved. Too soon it seems.

I would call it criminal, Mic and Rosie. I wish you well in your quest for deposit refunds either through insurance, CMV, Bank, whatever.

Will try the TA first, then the bank, then Insurance, then get on the list of creditors I suppose..

That's exactly the point. They found they were not viable to continue on Monday, and that's when they went into administration.

There's nothing been shown that they knew there were issues before Monday.

Whatever the day they find that, there'll always be someone who bought something the day before that was found. Whether it was Monday, or Saturday, or Friday, or...

Where did you say they had knowledge of the issue before Monday?

All you said was you can't sell the day before you find you're insolvent, but there's always a day before you find that out.

Read all the posts on CMV section of CC. Read 'CMV cease trading' on CC.  People put deposits on CMV during the weekend.   I had a look at some TA sites here yesterday, CMV cruises still advertised.  Malpractice, incompetence or too damn lazy to remove the banners.

A couple of big name Aussie Cruise T/A's are still promoting CMV.  Can you believe.😵 Roll through some of the cruise TA sites and see.

Sure people put deposits on the weekend.

But whatever day they go into liquidation people will have put deposits on the day before. Whether Monday, Saturday or Friday.

They hadn't been determined to not be viable then so were permitted to trade.

The people operating cmv website and travel agents would have known it was imminent. They should not have taken deposits. Too late, now the customers have to get it back.

I guess the Government Authorities will determine whether they were trading whilst insolvent.

That isn't true.

Once the decision is made it is announced immediately, not held on to until later. And just as we've all seen with customer service on cruise bookings, those on the front end don't know what's happening at a top level - even when it's been announced!
