Quantum of the Seas starts cruising in Dec.

The first ship in the fleet to return to cruising will finally get its crew vaccinated:

Singapore has started the vaccination process of crew and staff working onboard cruise vessels homeported in the country, according to Singapore Cruise Society.

This is thanks to SeaVax, a sea crew program that aims to vaccinate all crew members working for more than 30 days onboard cruise vessels that are homeported or under repair in shipyards, as well as other non-cruise vessels.

The crew members are being offered the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty or the Moderna vaccines. Companies or individuals should be prepared to pay for the vaccination services, Singapore Cruise Society wrote.

According to the website, Royal Caribbean International is vaccinating its staff onboard the Singapore-based Quantum of the Seas on four separate dates when the vessel is at berth. The cruise line expects all crew aboard the ship to be fully vaccinated by early October.

In another move to improve the loyalty commitments to the brand, Royal Caribbean announced specific changes and improvements to the Crown and Anchor Society offerings fleetwide - including bringing back the Diamond Lounge and introducing the new Pinnacle Club Lounge for its most loyal customers.

However, the Quantum of the Seas, currently operating 3-and 4-nights Ocean Getaway voyages out of Singapore, does not feature a Diamond Lounge onboard (replaced by a Golden Room for its high-spending casino guests), the Guest Services Team onboard has introduced changes for its Singapore-based members.

Priority Check-In for Crown and Anchor members did not return in this round of updates to the membership programme. Instead, Royal Caribbean now only offers its Pinnacle Club members an ‘expedited arrival’, in which they arrive at the terminal an hour before or after their arrival check-in appointment, as long as it’s during the terminal’s check-in hours.

All other members will not receive any expedited or priority check-in.

A section of the Vintages Bar on Deck 5 was previously reserved for Diamond Plus guests. However, after welcoming its first Pinnacle Members in May and the recent fleetwide changes to the product offerings, the management has now made improvements and extended this particular corner for its Diamond members from 5 to 8 pm every evening.

In addition to this, as self-service buffets are a thing of the past, the Food and Beverage team has introduced Canapes on-demand, allowing members to enjoy it along with their beverages -  which they still have to redeem with their drink vouchers. Due to limitations, no hot food is served, but the canapes do change every evening.

Diamond members will receive four drink vouchers per day, up to the value of USD 13, and 5 and 6 respectively for Diamond Plus and Pinnacle guests.

Our writers and friends have been using this corner and have found it a quiet place to chat and enjoy conversations with other fellow members. Do drop by to try it for yourself.

Due to the Safe Management Measures and Healthy Sail Protocols, the Coastal Kitchen - a restaurant reserved for the cruise line’s suite and Pinnacle Club guests, was impacted with a reduced occupancy rate. Hence, reservations for its Pinnacle Club guests have to be made with the Maitre D once onboard. Each Pinnacle Club member will receive a USD 25 credit for speciality dining on Quantum of the Seas.

What used to be a reserved section at theatres has now evolved into priority access to seats onboard. The doors to the theatre will open 45 minutes before showtime for Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club members. However, we have not personally tried if this works. Do note that the Quantum of the Seas theatre shows at the Royal Theatre and Two70 are now segregated by vaccination status, and you will strictly require a reservation if you want to watch them.

Due to the low count of top-tiers in this market, Quantum of the Seas will not offer a designated Pinnacle Club Lounge and Top Tier Party. Instead, they will be invited to the Vintages Bar, along with the other members. However, the Crown and Anchor Loyalty Ambassadors, along with the Guest Services Manager, routinely drop by to check in with the guests and have a friendly chat with us. Huge credits to them for putting in the effort!

The Top Tier party, which was reintroduced on the other ships in the fleet after the recent changes, also did not make the cut due to the low count. However, they confirmed that Recognition Events will still occur when a member moves to a new tier.

Royal Caribbean’s CEO Michael Bayley announced earlier that the Quantum of the Seas will be deployed to Alaska in 2022. Though it is unlikely, this suggests that there will be no further cruises sailing from Singapore after Quantum’s last Ocean Getaway cruise departs in February.  The Ocean Getaways sailings performed well with Singapore Residents, with some of the top suites selling out months in advance, we do hope Royal Caribbean announces the new round of sailings from Singapore soon.

Many exciting changes coming to the Singapore cruising scene this week - starting with Royal Caribbean axing its contact tracing device ‘Tracelet’ in Singapore.

First introduced on the Quantum of the Seas when it first returned to service last December as a contact tracing system for Royal Caribbean, it worked alongside Singapore’s TraceTogether during its ‘tenure’ onboard.

Both guests and crew have to wear the Tracelet wristband while outside of their staterooms, and they are individually tied to each person so close contacts can be quickly identified and isolated when a positive COVID-19 case is detected onboard.

That will all change today as guests sailing on Quantum of the Seas today were informed that they will no longer have to wear the Tracelet during their voyage (departing 11 November 2021). However, they will still have to ensure their TraceTogether app/token issued by the Singapore Government is still active while onboard.

Royal Caribbean guests sailing on the voyage saw this as a welcoming change as they no longer have to constantly bring out two devices - the TraceTogether application/token issued by the Singapore Government, while wearing the Tracelet and purple wristband at the same time.

Discussions for a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL-Sea) scheme is now underway after Singapore and Malaysia launched bilateral quarantine-free travel for air and land travel yesterday (29 November 2021), on flights between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur, and across the causeway link between Johor and Singapore.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Malaysian counterpart Ismail Sabri Yaakob had a joint press conference at the Istana during his official visit to Singapore. During which, Prime Minister Lee shared that discussions to pilot a travel lane for sea borders were in the works

The VTL (Sea) scheme will include restarting port calls by cruise ships homeported in Singapore to Malaysia and a travel lane by ferry to Desaru. The two governments agreed to work towards aligning safe cruise standards and have started discussing these matters.

Currently, Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas and Dream Cruises’ World Dream is offering 2-4 Nights high seas cruises with no port calls from Singapore.

Perhaps with the VTL-Sea scheme, guests embarking on cruises from Singapore can soon look forward to travelling to popular cruise destinations in Malaysia such as Penang, Langkawi and Port Klang (Kuala Lumpur) soon.

This news comes after the Singapore Tourism Board lifted restrictions on international guests sailing on Singapore homeport cruises last week.

We are booked on Quantum November 18 6 night sailing from Brisbane Australia - what do you you think are the chances of this actually happening ?🤔

I have my doubts but who knows.

The experts seem to be be split on this virus.

Some think it’s going to burn out, some say with our winter coming it’s going to run rampant.

If the 2nd is the case ,forget about next season.
