Diamond and Suite Concierge?

Recommended Posts

If this is the case then the Suite Concierge may be able to handle both the suite duties and D/D+/P duties with reduced numbers.

If true, should there be a Suite/Pinnacle line and a line for Diamond/Diamond + members?  Of course setup with social distance.

First come first serve or Suites/Pinnacle first?

I'd really like to say first come first serve, but it's most like Suites, Pinnacles first.

You know it’s odd. We seldom need or use the Suite/Diamond Concierge, but we often see the same people on particular cruises utilizing their time. I wonder what they are doing for the cruisers.

Communism?

You know the guy who rang me up at Staples was studying an economics book.  He is getting his second masters.  Glad I am not entering the job market now.

I would book a suite if I had more income, can they not take my word for it and reward me based on what I would do if I could?

I don't know if I've spoken to them or Guest Services, other than to say hello or break a bill (now I do it in the casino).  I think there is a set of passengers that like feeling special or feel they have earned something special.  Nothing wrong with that, just not me.  I love the airlines with self check in.  I don't want to talk them, they don't want to talk to me, we get along just fine.

This is exactly why there will be a Suite Concierge, along with the fact that paying a premium price leads to expectation of a premium service (and a lot of attention) on the part of some.  D concierge not so sure. Agree that there may not even be a D lounge at the start

Then there should be no problem going to Guest Services for a need?

For once I agree with you.

We have rarely used the concierge for anything.  Sadly, some of them seem to simply sit behind their desks the whole time.  Now there are some folks who tend to monopolize the time of the concierge endlessly.  My non-scientific observation was they tended to be suite guests who didn't know how to take care of simple needs.

Respectfully disagree.  RCCL is going to need to bring back the cruising public, including D and above.  Why do something to take away their expected benefits  Those who expect the public to come rushing back to the ships are out of touch with reality.

We don't use the concierges much either but we have seen some Pinnacle members, especially on Port Canaveral sailings, that seem to be sitting with a concierge every time we entered the  SL.  We almost never go to Guest Services either as we are low maintenance.  Last time I went, I did skip the line and go to the front, but the Guest Services manager agreed with me that a loose glass panel on a balcony did warrant immediate help.😱

Don't get me wrong. I will be very disappointed if there is no D lounge when I cruise again. I will also hold my hand up and say that I am not someone who goes to the lounge to meet 'like-minded people'. I go for the free booze in HH, the coffee at any time of day and the breakfast (always eat breakfast there).

However, there seem to be many people on here - which let's face it tends to attract frequent cruisers - who can't wait to rush back to the ships. I agree that a lot of the public won't be rushing to cruise, but I think that will be those who are not passionate about cruising. I am staggered by just how much cruising some people do (as evidenced by the various posts such as 'how many cruises have to you had cancelled' 'how many FCC's do you hold' etc. I don't think it's out of touch with reality to say that those people will be quick to cruise again, and since they will expect the D lounge experience and it's going to be hard to manage with social distancing/ reduced staff etc, then the D lounge may not happen to start with.

Sure, but it also goes for those who have paid more over the years and have earned DL or CL access.

You seem to be very knowledgeable in and around Stocks. How much value ($) are recognized on the current bottom line from last year?  Two years ago, and so on. Pretty sure the value to stockholders is current and future.

Often in the DL the concierge sit at their desk staring at their computers and not mixing with guests...

We had one like that on both legs of our March/April 2019 Caribbean B2B cruise on the Freedom. I'll never forget her name, Jandi Kim. The worst, ever! I'm also positive if she was ever to smile her face would have cracked. All other DLC have at least introduced themselves (besides the scripted letter) and acted like they enjoyed having us back cruising with RC and using the DL. But we did prefer the DL over the CL on the Freedom.

What does the diamond concierge do?  I’ve never asked them to do anything for me.  I have asked the suite concierge to make dinner reservations on the package before boarding, but nothing once on the ship.

What do people ask the diamond concierge to do?

If I had a problem or request I would always talk to the D concierge before going to stand on line at GS. 99% of the time they can do whatever it is that needs doing.

Just asking, what kind of issues do people have that require a Concierge or GS?

Thanks

Just curious, how do you know the difference between Suite Guests and D+ in the CL?

Did you bother to actually read my Quote?

I specifically said... "My non-scientific observation..."  I can make a good guess based on age, family size, etc., but again, I said "non-scientific."

Whether the income derived is booked for one year or 15 years, it is still income flowing to the corporation.

Seriously? You have never needed to go to GS for anything?

Nothing 'requires' a concierge, but talking to the concierge can save you from going to GS for whatever problem it is that you are having, minor to major. Non-working room key, over charges, wrong charges, room issues, dining reservation problems, internet log in problems, anything that you would typically go to GS for, you can ask the concierge.

In the beginning I would always do things myself. Sometimes they would get fixed, sometimes not. Then I started using concierge and I never had a problem. It's a really nice perk, more than free alcohol.

We've had the same one on many cruises we've taken on the same ship.

He would sit staring at his computer all evening UNTIL...

the captain walked in.  You should  have seen him then, a bundle of activity, going from guest to guest.  As soon as the captain left, it was back to his desk.

I found that on Oasis as well...with both the concierges in there sitting at their desk at all times.  Never got up to mix it up with the guests...at least that I ever noticed.

Seems on the smaller ships, we find the concierges are always up and about, even serving drinks and cleaning tables.  Constantly checking on you as well.

You had me until that line.

My limit is 1 😉 (really).

I have to say that most concierges have gone above in beyond with requests. It has objectively been a better value than free alcohol. But if you are a heavy drinker that would be up for debate.
