so can anyone put his cabin card in a slot machine, pretend to play and ask the waiter for a drink ?

Don't you need  "drinks on us" printed on your card for that?

No.  Once you ask for a drink at a machine the waiter presses a button on the machine and writes down your folio #.  You will be charged for the drink unless you have the drinks on us chain/card casino gives you if you qualify.  It is attached to your sail and sign card once you "earn" it - either by a casino booking promo or by points earned playing.  It is not like most land-based casinos where they hand out "free" drinks while playing.

thanks, so then its better to play at land-based casinos, where they hand out free drinks and the odds are also much better.

And enjoy all the other activities on The Cruise

Probably.  The machines on cruise ships are not regulated, as are the ones (I think) in land-based casinos. However, I have seen people spend day and night in the casino on the ship, coming off with 30,000 points- especially on premier and elite cruises.  If you get the drinks on us card while playing you can get a free drink every 15 minutes - and if you tip the server they will come around to you often to make sure you are happy - same as land based servers.  With the drink package CCL offers the lineup at the ship bars have become very large, with long waits at times.

I can see where you're coming from.....but, when Carnival is losing millions of dollars why on earth would you use a rifle approach instead of a shotgun approach?    If you offer it to everyone, more people will take advantage of the offer and thus the monies coming in will increase.  By using selective marketing, fewer monies come in.  But hey, they supposedly know what they're doing and hopefully I'll enjoy my last 3 cruises on Carnival.

I can only hypothesize that they have "run the numbers" and/or looked at various models, and found that if they offered it to everyone their average rate of return (net profits, or net revenue, or whatever is most important to the beancounters) would be lower than this more selective approach.

But I am just spitballing here, no real insight into their internal marketing group.

Thanks for posting this.  Explains why a number of the more loyal cruisers (including myself) haven't gotten the offer.

Well, while useful to verify (because we already knew), it doesn't clarify what the logic was behind who got offered the promo, just that is was not a general offer.

I just got the offer this past week and have to say it's not that great of deal for us and we always get Cheers. Our casino offers are much, much better.

Throw more salt in the wound.  You got the offer and you always get Cheers.  That goes directly against the hypothesis that the algorithms  always exclude those that normally get Cheers.

Just one more nail in my Carnival coffin.

Don't fret,  algorithms aren't perfect.

I would never offer RU1 or RU2 to anyone who would anyway pay for Cheers!

Maybe I would offer RU9, which is priced much higher & certainly profitable for Carnival.

I have not seen any screenshots of the specifics of  RU1, RU2, & RU3.  So I don't  know the specific differences.   The RU9 code, which was posted required an OV or higher cabin.  We always get insides on Carnival and use the savings towards Cheers.  The only time we upgraded was on our two Horizon cruises when we stayed in the Havana area.

If you don't play that much, then why on God's green earth are you worthy of a Drinks On Us card for the casino?

I know they are given out to spur people to gamble more, but if you don't  at least have some sort of a baseline when it comes to playing in the casino, it makes no sense.

Must be given out by the brother of the marketing genius in charge of algorithms.

Wow. I guess I’m NOT WORTHY. Thanks for letting me know.

No dear, you are indeed fortunate to get "drinks on us".

I haven't received any such offer.

No free Cheers, no "drinks on us", no casino offer, no complimentary Cruise ever!

But I still love and enjoy all my Cruises!

We never received an email but my BIL did. Once I priced the eligible cruises and put in my VIFP number it gave me the perk as well..

However it’s barely even worth it because you will pay almost the same if you booked a discounted rate and and paid for the Cheers package .. was literally only about $100 cheaper with the Cheers perk for an 8 nt sailing on the Magic in December 2021

Which code did you use.....RU1, RU2, RU3 or RU9?    Even if it's only 100 savings, 100 bucks is 100 bucks that can be used towards gratuities.  Other people have said it only cost them about 200 pp.  It obviously depends upon the code, the ship, the sail date and the cabin.

My code was RU9, Ocean view and above. My wife and son got the same offer. My son has never had Cheers and we have had it every cruise (12). On a side note, non of us have anything booked at the moment.

I didn’t have to put in any code.. Just put in your VIFP number when you are pricing through Carnivals site

Your offer is under "my offers" when you are logged in. There is a code that is used for each offer.

SNJ-

our travel agent did it for us using our VFTP (you know what I mean) ID. yes it did only cost us an extra 200 total (for 2 adults) but I had to give up my non refundable deposit for 4 people.

Was on a 3 way call last night with my TA and someone from Carnival's  marketing department.   They were clueless as to who got the offer and who didn't,  and unless one of the offers was in my "offers area" of my ViFP account, I was SOL.

When talking with my TA last night, he said that the different codes were sent to different people.  The more widespread one was the RU2, the RU9 needed an oceanview or above cabin and he thought the RU1 and RU3 were related to casino and interline reservations.  I personally  think it was just conjecture on his part to try to appease me, but he obviously is closer to the situation on a daily basis than we are.

I checked a Panorama cruise for Nov/2021, and on every cabin category, the offer was RU2.
