does that mean you could actually cash that in and get a refund?

Yes I could cash that 1 of 7 in. But almost all of it will be gone by end of year. Just 73.44 rolling into next year from that in next year, in process of reorganizing so that a little more will roll over. Less than 200 total but that's after 5 cruises after 8/15/21 and only paid out 3 deposits using old gift cards. (All gift cards will also be gone - PCL can't afford too many cruisers like me)

@mtnesterzplease add if you find out AIDAvita's new name

Don't have a ship name yet, but a creditable source names Cordelia Cruises of India as the buyer.

They are a new startup from 2020 and have one 32 year old ship. Whether buying a second ship or upgrading to something 12 years newer, I don't know.

I would love to cruise on Crystal again IF the quality is still there.

Also because they did not charge extra for a Solo cruise guest in the past.

No telling if that will survive with the new owners.

As for Cordelia Cruises the India market is potentially Huge. Like China those are demographics with specific dining and entertainment preferences.

Look at all the new build ships that Were intended to serve the China Market before the Pandemic derailed a lot of that planning.

We were on RCCL's Wonder for one of it's first (US) cruises and the enclosed forward Solarium was built as an Enclosed adult area instead of being Open as on the other Oasis class ships because it was originally intended to serve the China market.

That was Super with Me as I don't like baking in the Sun.

Time to sell a few more??

Sure seems like it.  Might actually get more than they did in the past - during covid everything was a fire sale I would imagine.

Then again, a tough time to push forward with expansion for a new cruise line or small operators.  Margaritaville could sure take advantage of some deals - they seem to be fine with picking up second hand ships.

Alternatively, cruise lines could pick up some older ships to bridge the time until newbuilds come along, but the operational cost of older ships is significant.  I could also see some "milk run" itineraries being shortened in distance and speeds being slowed to allow ships to allow longer casino opening hours, more onboard bar service, and more onboard revenue.  These might also blend well into close to home cruises to match customers desire to save money on long distance flights.  Princess sailing out of Galveston might be a really smart move to reach the western caribbean and pull from Texas.  Princess and HAL have started offering some shoulder season itineraries between Seattle and Vancouver with a stop in Victoria and or Astoria.  Add in Nanaimo and a day or two at sea and there are very short cruises that are reasonably scenic and good to build a stronger base of passengers on the west coast.  These voyages would be relatively calm, and if ran in summer replacing one or two week long alaska voyages, might be real winners if they sell.

I think there are still issues with too many big new ships.  Although the cost to operate is less per passenger than smaller ships, that assumes the ships sail near full and that can't be easy in the offseasons or shoulder seasons.

Some debt will evaporate end of year as unused Goodwill FCC will expire but leaves them debt heavy / extremely low fares (my next 10 day balcony cruise is 1325 & EZAIR is 614. No way those fares should be that close with current fuel costs) / 2nd wallets were wide open last summer but not so much now. My thoughts:

> Not Diamond, Sapphire, or Coral. Not really small ships at 2k capacity but close. Not oldest in fleet

So with shifting 2 Costa vessels into Carnival Cruise Lines, does that free up Carnival Elation & Paradise for the auction block??

Ages of oldest still in fleet:
1997: POAU Explorer
1998: Carnival Elation & Paradise
1999: HAL MS Volendam
2000: HAL MS Zaandam

2000: PO Aurora

I think that Ecstasy is good for Margaritaville but everyone else might disagree, including Margaritaville. I don't get why they have only 2 night cruises to the same place over and over again

If the ship is the destination, it does not matter where you go.

Soon what's this chatter about major changes coming re: Costa?? I mean more than shifting a few ships to CCL to beef them up. The Saudi wanted Seaborn but are they now talking Costa name & remaining 10 ships? (2 already Costa by Carnival Cruises)

Makes one wonder if the same feature on the new Sun Princess might be an indicator of where that ship will go once the Asian markets gets back to speed.
