jasperado Posted May 15, 2021 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2021 Iona is now off St Leonard's, next passing Beachy Head. It's not going to take her 18 hours to sail to Southampton, so where do we think she will "park up" for the night?
emam Posted May 15, 2021 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2021 I have been trying to find out how to cast the livestream to tv and have given up. I will wait for the link and hope that I can do it then. So I then decided to see where Iona currently is. I was surprised to see that she is just off the coast of Eastbourne. Now I'm no expert by any means on the speed of ships, but I didn't think it would take from now to 6.00 am to get to Southampton from where she is. Am I wrong in thinking this or do you think she will anchor for a while.

Cathygh Posted May 15, 2021 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2021 Marine Traffic shows she's only doing 8.4 knots so I guess that's why she isn't due till tomorrow morning. I am thinking about going to see her arrival in Southampton but I'm undecided between Lee on the Solent, Weston Shore or popping over to Hythe. Then again I will need to be up earlier than usual on a Sunday so I might not😴
jasperado Posted May 15, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted May 15, 2021 Hi, I'm in Ryde on the Isle of Wight and can pop down to the seaside to see her go past. I'm sure she is not going to sneak up southampton water under cover of darkness like all cruises usually end, because she is to be escorted by 2 fire boats with horns a-sounding and hoses a-firing. So she will have to wait up somewhere. I'll keep an eye on the tracker , who knows, she might wait at the end of Ryde Pier to let us all have a good look?? 🙂🙂
Monorail Orange Posted May 15, 2021 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2021 Amazing after all this time, we've still not seen anything of the interior. I guess by now, under normal circumstances, we've have had press previews and the like. So tomorrow is going to be quite the reveal.
Thejuggler Posted May 15, 2021 #7 Share Posted May 15, 2021 If they want it to take 18 hours that how long it will take. The ship GPS will be programmed to arrive at waypoints at certain times and speed will be adjusted accordingly, even if this means doing a snails pace for hour after hour. tring Posted May 15, 2021 #8 Share Posted May 15, 2021 (edited) I was looking round stuff this morning and came across a possible link to a camera feed that would show Iona's arrival to Southamptom tomorrow morning, but have nor been able to find it again so I can save it. Anyone know about webcms which show Southampton Water, or going up to it? I see from the previous thread that she is due to dock about 11am tomorrow morning. Hi, there is a live webcam at Cowes which shows the entrance to Southampton water. I'm no good at sharing links but if you google cowes live webcam, I think you can find it there. I'll check 🙂

jasperado Posted May 15, 2021 Author #11 Share Posted May 15, 2021 I just googled and camsecure.co.uk has cameras from the royal yacht squadron and cowes yacht club. They have great views. I am following her progress on cruisemapper.com. Iona is close to Brighton now. I'm no 0photographer, but will try and get some happy snaps as she goes past here. Would be great to get an IOW ferry in the same photo to get the scale. Fingers crossed 🤞
tring Posted May 15, 2021 #12 Share Posted May 15, 2021 Thanks for the replies. Not sure what is mentioned is what I saw this morning for Southampton, but will try those options.

Cathygh Posted May 15, 2021 #14 Share Posted May 15, 2021 Someone has posted elsewhere that she is now going to anchor off the IOW at about midnight due to bad weather and will dock at 10am
jasperado Posted May 15, 2021 Author #15 Share Posted May 15, 2021 Just tracked her. She is heading south of the island, should be off St Catherine's point within the hour, not attempting to go the usual north route. Weather is fine here, no wind, rain, or fog, so I think she is just parking up.
