Carnival might not require Covid vaccine.

I am pretty sure Texas joined the lawsuit against the CDC, so I don't think they are going to let it happen here.

Yet no cruise line has joined. I see the lawsuit getting tossed. It is better if Texas did join the lawsuit - fewer lawsuits to clog the courts.

Awesome!!!  We’ve been road tripping and been to Disney several times since last spring. We’ve already had covid and so will not get the vaccine.  There is a whole section of the country that is living normal lives and does not care who is vaccinated or not.  Go Carnival!!!  I love that CEO.  What guts it takes to go against the grain.  The man is brilliant.

But there is also the question of whether they actually legally could force people to get an experimental gene altering therapy that has only been approved for emergency use.

For folks talking about vaccinated verses non-vaccinated cruises— fine with me, but which one do you think all the fun people will be on?  😜

I'm all for vaccines if you want them, but I'm actually really glad someone is standing up for our rights on this. It will creep into other areas, it always does.

I'm glad the CDC represents the rights of public health. Those rights are being eroded daily.

Christine is a President, but which one do you think will have the most cruises terminated early because of covid?

I foresee there will be no cruises terminated early. For anyone that gets it on the ship, they can quarnteen them for a couple of days to see if they get serious or not. My view, even if a person comes down with a case, it will almost be undetectable.

Why would the terminate early? Quarantine people just like they do with Noro. This really isn't uncharted waters (pun intended).

We have no data on cruises with Americans, much less Americans following simple instructions like masks, social distancing (including by the pool), etc.

You mean like these (some masked, some not masked) passengers? But wait, those are Italians on MSC last month, not Americans!

It will likely be put them off the ship or terminate the cruise. Cruise lines will have to report numbers to the CDC like they do with noro. Cruise lines can't afford to let covid get out of control on a cruise or they might have to cancel a number of cruises.

The chairs are socially distanced by groups. I posted a link once upon a time to what covid cruising on MSC was like. Masks were required when dancing and many other activities. Masks when strolling about the ship. Every other seat in the theater blocked off. Only cruise line excursions. Much easier just to get a vaccine.

If the typical US-based cruiser was the equivalent to the typical European and Singaporean cruiser, your comparison is fair.

But I don't think they are.  US based cruisers will have little time for the many (many!) conditions placed on the cruisers that have been successfully cruising elsewhere.

Also, many (perhaps the majority) of the successful cruises were wholly within the home port country, or an occasional foray into one other country, where strict protocols were in place.  The Caribbean isn't comparable to the typical Mediterranean destination right now, IMHO.

Soon, perhaps, but not quite yet.

I could live with those rules.

I don’t get how you two always seem to try to find a way to make it irrelevant that cruising has been going off without a hitch for 8 months.

You seem to imply it is cruising as usual. The only semblance is you are on a ship. In a bubble. Sometimes a cruise to nowhere.

Ships have been cruising in Europe and Asia for months without major outbreaks with no vaccinations. My family is vaccinated so I am conflient we are protect no matter if those around us or vaccinated o not.

Not open to non-residents and some are requiring vaccinations. Europe might finally open to vaccinated Americans this summer.

I'm kind of surprised CC hasn't written a similar article. Surely they must have some EU correspondents.

You think its just that easy? And what if someone, especially someone unvaccinated, came down with bad case of covid and required medical attention at a hospital? You think it's just a simple "sorry, go stay in your cabin until the end of the cruise"? No, the ship may have to reroute, turn back, or even cancel mid cruise if there are enough covid infected passengers that get real sick that need medical attention NCL couldnt provide

The passengers are around people..  Interacting.. Touching the same surfaces..  Swimming the pools together..  Dining in dining room..  Gambling in the casino.. Ordering fruity drinks while sitting in a lounger on the deck around other people who are doing the same..

It is not only reasonable, it is critical to look at these cruises to see how covid spreads (or doesn’t spread) on these ships.

I’m going to give you the cliff notes - these cruises haven’t been the floating covid balls that you assume they’d be.

Yes, and how many times have ships returned to the prior port with a medical emergency? Lots! Plenty!  Seen this way way way more times then a medivac. Face it, if anyone is going to jack and screw peoples cruises up it will be a sick anti-vaxxer that gete real sick a oard with covid. It will happen...... Won't be a vaccinated guest causing this .....

The SeaDream I—the first ship to resume sailing in the Caribbean—made headlines when seven guests and two crew members tested positive for COVID-19. The debacle has been on the lack of a mask mandate onboard and the fact that passengers did not follow the pre-cruise 14-day quarantine requirement in Barbados. The inexpensive antigen tests administered by some cruise ships are not always reliable; false negative results may be as high as 50 percent, according to Science magazine.

from the article I posted a link to above.

Looks like they are having fun, with no mask.

Abbott today just did away with masks mandates for our kids in school. Jails and hospitals excepted. As things improve having the cdc dragging its heels makes they look out of touch and behind the science. Starts june 5th, not today

Its getting hard to believe they still wouldnt let us cruise. Please let cruises resume in july.

I really dislike the term anti-vaxxer. Most of these people do in fact believe vaccinations work, have kids who are fully vaccinated, are fully vaccinated themselves, but simply want more time to pass and the trials to be over for this particular vaccine. It's really upsetting to see the level of vitriol aimed at folks who just want what they want out of any vaccine, for it to be out of trials. And, what happens if a vaccinated cruise has an outbreak? Will anyone apologize for the hate? Or will it be like the backlash Texas got when ending the mask mandate, with no apologies months later when our numbers continued to decline. We're not anti-vaxxers. We just want more data, and there's nothing wrong with that.

what if a vaccinated guest comes up positive, had 7 players with the Yankee's that had been

vaccinated come up positive, so just can't blame anti-vaxxer's if that happens.
