Dry Cleaning and Laundry Service

Can some of you that have sailed on the QM2 often please  comment on your experience with the dry cleaning and laundry service on her. We are accustomed to Holland and sailing in the Neptune suites and having free laundry and dry cleaning.  I did not trust Hollands' service for anything really nice,  and I preferred to do my own laundry and have them iron items for me often, but just wondering about the service on board the QM2. Holland has eliminated all of their laundry rooms on board, and that did not please me. We are sailing on the 23 World cruise  and the Christmas cruise before it, so we will be on board for a long time. I like that I can do some of my own laundry on Cunard, but just wondering if I  can send things to just be pressed, and how good the dry cleaning service is. Thanks

Sailing 23 times on Cunard vessels, we have never been disappointed with their service on board/

We would leave the laundry/dry cleaning items in a laundry bag supplied. There is a slip you need to fill out for the items enclosed and number.

We received it back before dinner time the same day. We are very satisfied with their work and the return time. Also we are of a certain level in the World Club that gives us is very good discount also.

My DW also used the Laundry Room without any problems. Mostly the Iron to do touch ups and not the machines.

Unfortunately we don't have a latest laundry slip to share with you.

Very happy with Cunards services but I don’t use them for delicate items.   For those I use the supplied machines where I can set temperature/type of wash myself.   Had many interesting conversations in the laundry room with passengers and guest entertainers.   Great place to touch up Husbands tux shirts.

When I enquired years ago, I was told Cunard don't provide  dry cleaning onboard. They provide a sort of wet cleaning service, different from the normal laundry service but still not dry. I didn't chance it.

I have seen garments being carried onto the ship by staff on world cruise port days and often wondered if they had had speedy dry cleaning ashore.

Bizarrely, I have just seen the laundry list from our last trip on QV in 2019. They offered laundry, specialist clean, and pressing only. We have never had any complaints, but haven't sent them anything very delicate.

QM2 does have Dry Cleaning offered. Maybe since it is a bigger vessel with the space to do so.

Here's the latest QM2 "Laundry, specialist cleaning and pressing services" list I have (from July 2019).

As @Victoria2 and @exlondoner have indicated, Cunard doesn't technically offer "dry cleaning" per se. What they offer instead is called "specialist cleaning" described on the above form as follows.

"Specialist cleaning is a "wet" cleaning process, using small amounts of water rather than solvents. This cleaning process is not suitable for raw silks."

The Cunard FAQ goes into greater detail about that process in the answer to the question "Are there laundry facilities on board?"

Specialist cleaning services

Wet cleaning is a professional, aqueous cleaning process for sensitive and non-washable garments. The wet cleaning process was invented in 1991 by Kreussler & Co GmbH in cooperation with Miele. Wet cleaning avoids the use of chemical solvents. Environmental groups and the United States Environmental Protection Agency have indicated that such alternative ""wet cleaning"" methods are better for the environment than chemical solvents and proponents of wet cleaning state that these methods can be used without shrinking or otherwise damaging garments that typically require dry cleaning.

Typically, wet cleaning involves the use of a professional wet cleaning machine using water, biodegradable soaps and conditioners, and various types of pressing and re-shaping equipment that may be specialized for many different fabric and fibre types. The most important aspect of successful wet cleaning is experience and knowledge of different types of fabrics and proper ways to finish garments by operators

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), wet cleaning is the most environmentally sensitive professional method of garment cleaning. It does not use hazardous chemicals, it does not generate hazardous waste, nor does the process create air pollution and it reduces the potential for water and soil contamination. The specialized detergents and conditioner used in the wet clean process are milder than home laundry products.

Do Cunard offer a bag of items for a fixed price? We've had this on other lines and it was very useful. We're on for 29 days, plus 3 on land at the end so will have to do some laundry at some point!

When we were on QM2 in 2018 they had a bag price. They also had two days (on our 7 day TA) where there was a special price. We took advantage of it.

On our Caribbean cruise in 2019, they did 20 items for $40 on day 5 of the TA portion, so we took advantage of that - We have experienced it a couple of times before, but there doesn't seem to be much consistancy when it happens, I think they were on the longer Med (17-19 nights) cruises.
