I would add generally a feeling of low ceilings, dark, oppressive decor everywhere except MDR, crowded indoor passageways, cabin storage requires bending for even a short person, and beats NCL for the most uncomfortable furniture at sea.

Yea I forgot to add to my dislikes the yellow, loud (and I think ugly) MDR.
Rare Mary229 Posted July 28, 2021 #28 Share Posted July 28, 2021 Disliked the promenade deck - it absolutely has no redeeming architectural features. Disliked the congested dining room - every night, night after night. Liked the shower, liked the interactive TV, liked the casual cafes.

Taters Posted July 28, 2021 #33 Share Posted July 28, 2021 We did a Baltic cruise on Koningsdam in 2017 and we loved this ship. Some of her best features are the hydro pool, the Dutch Cafe, and those comfortable white couches on Deck 11 over looking the mid-ship pool. What a great place for people watching! The only downside we found was the heaviness of the chairs in the Lido Cafe. They were hard to move in and out from the table. We have B2B cruises to Mexico on K'dam scheduled for late November/early December, 2021 and can't wait to be back on this beautiful ship again!

Rare Crew News Posted July 28, 2021 #35 Share Posted July 28, 2021 I reviewed my CC live thread from my Dec 2018 Koningsdam cruise. Pros: Lots of electric outlets around the desk in Vista Suites. There is a floor nightlight across from the bathroom that is motion activated and last 25 seconds to get you back to bed during the night. Laundry service was same day for all but one cruise day. My waiters were excellent after I informed them that I wanted to be finished in less than one hour. They never failed me. Room Stewards were excellent with their supervisors very visible during the work time. Giant chocolate chip cookies in the Dutch Cafe were bigger than my open hand and very chewy. The Explorations Cafe barista, Paula, was amazing. Working-level crew were friendly and accommodating. Cons: Ship's officers were aloof and avoided speaking to any passengers. The Assistant Dining Room Managers were invisible and I posted so in my live thread. The next evening, an Assistant Dining Room Manager walked from the front of the MDR to my table, asked about my dinner, and disappeared without stopping at any other table. Coincidence or does the ship read CC???. Front Desk was very dismissive to passengers, including me and my attempts to get my Mariner meal discounts. And the rest of the story: I received a call from the Front Desk asking me to attend a meeting with the Hotel Director which I gladly accepted. Not knowing what to expect, I arrived at the Front Desk at the requested time and looked up to see Santosh with scruffy beard, sweatshirt, and jeans. I knew him from two previous cruises in his culinary roll (he had arranged for the huge chocolate bomb desserts for two CC roll call PG dinners). He was the incoming Hotel Director getting oriented before he took over the next week and in full view of the Front Desk, we talked for nearly an hour. That same evening, and for the duration of my time aboard, Assistant Dining Room Managers stopped at every table throughout the MDR to chat and the Maitre'd was also very visible throughout the MDR. Santosh confirmed that CC is indeed read by some aboard but the Hotel Director can only control the performance of those under his supervision. Ship's officers remained aloof for the duration of my cruise. Of course YMMV. 5

I don't understand....you said that Ocean Bar has no ocean view. This is a photo that I took on the Koningsdam in 2019. Is that not an ocean view? Tiggerwudz Posted July 29, 2021 #38 Share Posted July 29, 2021 We also dislike the promenade deck due to the lifeboats blocking the view while walking. The signature class ships have a nice open view out to sea which makes the walk more enjoyable. Otherwise we loved the ship overall.

Djptcp Posted July 29, 2021 #41 Share Posted July 29, 2021 DH and I sailed on the Koningsdam in Jan. 2020 and mostly loved the ship and our verandah cabin on Deck 4. We were on the ship as I was a contestant for the $50,000 slot tournament. One of the things we didn't like at all was the very small casino - it just didn't fit the size of the ship and the number of passengers. Being there was a casino promotion with lots of casino players it was difficult to find a slot machine most of the time. The space between the machines (back to back) was very tight and made maneuvering difficult. Very annoying. The other thing we didn't like was the horrendously loud music venues (not the Lincoln Stage). It was so loud we couldn't enjoy the music and singing and had to leave. Also, the two piano players in Billboard were terrible musicians. We will be sailing on the new Rotterdam three times starting in Dec. so we will see how these things are. I suspect they will be the same, especially a small casino.

Rare Crew News Posted July 29, 2021 #47 Share Posted July 29, 2021 (edited) Just watched the hand-over of the Rotterdam from the builder to Capt Timmers, who was the captain of the Koningsdam when I sailed. With him no longer on the Koningsdam, it is certain that the ship officers have to be less aloof. In an earlier post, I neglected to mention the positioning of the toilets so close to the tubs required most people to shift about 15 degrees to fit I would gladly sail on the Koningsdam again. jhsocal Posted July 29, 2021 #48 Share Posted July 29, 2021 Enjoyed the music choices and Dutch cafe. MDR- late set seating-worst food, best service ever. At least two evenings, early performance in Showroom filled to capacity. Late show, no problem. Overall, did not have the sense that ship was crowded. Winter, 2019. Sebbiesgrammy Posted July 30, 2021 #49 Share Posted July 30, 2021 Gelato!!!! Who doesn't like gelato after a full dinner -- or even for breakfast 😃. Still dreaming about Amareno cherry gelato. Hope to find HAL adding this small luxury to other ships. Yes, there is a small up charge, but so worth 2 or 3 dollars a day for a treat.

I’m not a fan of Ocean Bar and we often go to Tamarind Bar for a quieter and more scenic pre dinner libation. I thought so too but then I am noticing that recently built ships like the soon to be launched Disney Wish and the newly launched Spirit of Discovery and Adventure of Saga Cruises all have traditional promenades. In fact, the Concordia (and all Carnival/Costa ships that shared Concordia, ’s design)had two promenade decks. The first promenade deck you could not access to walk on as they ran parallel to the lifeboats and allowed for direct access into the lifeboats. The second promenade deck on the Concordia was located under the lifeboats and was for passenger use. It seems the newer promenades found on the Koningsdam and her sisters and also found on other cruise lines are created in a way to increase guests to book balcony rooms. The newer design also provides room for larger indoor public spaces.
