Don’t Buy The Drink Package!!!

 Share

Recommended Posts

I was having a nice time by myself on Mardi Gras and after a day of boarding and enjoying the ship, I got cut off from their small sized drinks at the piano bar.  If you ask to buy a drink, they so you can’t.  I’m not some crazy person.  I’m just enjoying being back in the ocean! 🙂 Guest relations said if I didn’t buy the package you could have another drink.  Not a matter of intoxication.  You just shouldn’t have bought the drink package. If I didn’t buy the drink package, I could buy more drinks. Makes sense.  🤪🤷‍♂️👀🙃

15 is the limit with or without cheers

From Carnival.com

"Guests will be limited to purchasing a maximum of 15 alcoholic beverages, per person, per day while on board."

and cheers is limited to 15 alcoholic drinks

Ha ha ha ha- okay. I've never hit my 15 drink limit on the Drink plan but I can't imagine how much I would spend on first fifteen drinks and then more past that versus the cost of the drink plan... maybe buy a bottle for the cabin as a future hedge against the risk of getting sober along with the drink plan- LOL 🤣

So how did you buy the drink package?

My sister and I buy a shot of vodka and split it into two drinks. One oz each.  We put it in zero proof drinks or cranberry juice. This serves two/three purposes, we can drink longer without falling over, less expensive,  and we never hit 15 drinks each.

15 drinks per day average cost $10 (for easy math) is $150/day. 7-night cruise is 8 days. That is $1,200 if you hit your limit each day. You are now at NCL drink package pricing. Once you get to know your regular bartenders by name and with greenbacks, your drinks come out with enough alcohol that you like. I enjoy drinking, but I stopped excessive drinking many years ago. I enjoy having a cocktail while enjoying the entertainment around. I don't drink just to drink. 15 is plenty for me, my wife won't come close to it with alcohol, but probably exceed it with coffee.

Buy a bottle for the cabin. Lol

We usually do this but there are no individual bottles of liquor showing for sale in the "Fun Shops" section of the website for our 5 day cruise next week on the Breeze out of Galveston. There's only gift packs with champagne or wine. Is this something new? Something to do with Galveston? Pushing Drinks packages? Just curious if anyone's had this same experience.

@bobbismith is correct, it is listed but easy to miss if you don't find the right place to click on. Fun Shops, Food and Beverages, then Liquor listing.

rum runner to the rescue....lol

Honestly I do like having the ability to make a drink in the room and sit on my balcony before dinner.

That is why I booked a Lido balcony for our upcoming Magic cruise. Red Frog and Blue Iguana are about 100 feet from my room 🙂

Well....99% of people never come close to the 15 drink limit so just because some guy got cut off won't effect them.

Well, I won't make up a percentage number but from personal experience I'll bet that the number is a lot less than that.  😉

I only hit my 15 once.  It was a sea day.  We started with bloody mary's at breakfast.  I went to the casino by 10 am.  I kept ordering vodka and diet.  They were in these little plastic cups.  Met my husband later in the afternoon to have a drink by the pool.  Before dinner, we went to the bar at the steakhouse to have a glass of wine.  The bartender told me I was at 14!!!!  I couldn't believe it. I wasn't even drunk.  I even looked at my husband and said "do I sound like someone that has had 14 drinks?" He said "no". I totally get it.  Now, if I go to the casino in the daytime, I drink water, or a glass of white wine,  Wine goes much further than those tiny glasses.
