Refueling took longer than planned on the Mardi Gras on September 4, so we could not leave until 8 p.m. instead of 4 p.m.

Exactly.  When they announced the extended delay, they stated smokers could only go to the casino bar and light up there.  BTW, the Mardi Gras casino is an enclosed area, there are self closing automatic doors at most entrances and exits.  Those doors that weren't auto were just hinged, but they still managed to keep most smoke inside the casino and not drift into adjacent areas..

Since they are not allowing you to smoke in the Casino, when it is closed, where can you smoke on embarkation day, since outside areas are " Closed to Bunkering" until safety drill is over? Or are they now open with new safety briefings?

While the Casino bar may be closed (not serving) you still should be able to smoke there on embarkation day.

that would be a big no

From September 13th on new casino rules

To promote safety, physical distancing and public health, we have updated our onboard casino protocols.

  • There is no smoking in the casino unless you are seated and playing.
  • Seats at gaming tables and slots are reserved for players only.
  • Guests must wear a facemask unless they are smoking or drinking their beverage.
  • The casino bar is open but is a no-smoking area.
  • Smoking is not permitted in the casino when closed.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere on board during refueling.
We appreciate our guests’ support of these protocols implemented with everyone’s best interests in mind.

Yes, that’s the rule starting soon. If you can’t wait that long:

Buy a disposable vape to use in the approved outdoor smoking areas until it’s allowed.
Simple solve.

Aboard Mardi Gras there is no vaping during refueling. Fire hazard because they blow up in people's faces, I imagine.

Would be better to ban alcohol on board. Fewer obnoxious drunks falling overboard that way.

Slim chance that happens as alcohol is a huge money maker for cruise lines. Obnoxious drunks just stick out, and you just can’t get rid of them.

I’ve witnessed more rude pax on cruises than obnoxious drunks.

That's  a big no. I vape, and bring 2 devices so I have a backup, and until Bunkering is done, no smoking anywhere, even on our balcony just off the Horizon. It was a long wait. A LONG wait.

I will just choose one of the last time slots available for boarding, and give a boost to the local economy. Not fond of buffet food, so we will just eat & be merry before we have to get on the ship. Not important to have the DOD.

Great idea. You'll avoid the check-in lines, your cabin will be ready and Guy's Burgers is open until 6:00.

That is in the casino, not the casino bar. In other words, you are not allowed to sit at a slot machine or other location in the gaming area and smoke without playing. Of course, I can simply pretend to play in the 5 minutes it takes for me to smoke a cigarette anyway so if the casino bar truly has gone no smoking, then that's what I will do. Or find some deck location to discreetly light up if pressed to do so.

Vaping is treated like cigarette smoking on board. Might as well just find a place to smoke the real thing if you're going to break the rules anyway.

You'll have to be a very good actor indeed to "pretend to play" during refueling on embark day, while the casino is CLOSED. 😏  And I sincerely hope that anyone who sees you lighting up during refueling reports you immediately, as that poses a hazard to the entire ship.

I think you can’t because it’s a muster station. It was my muster station. And with the new muster procedure, it’s a muster station all day.

On the breeze there was smoking at the casino bar prior to debarkation.  They had the bar sectioned off, so half was no smoking and half was smoking.

The ship was not taking on fuel just prior to debarkation so smoking would be ok at that point. Or do you mean to say during embarkation?
