Platinum Dinner

Just a note on the horrible free “champagne”, on my last cruise on the Getaway I noticed at the bar in the theater that they were carefully hiding the label when I ordered a glass of Prosecco. I asked them to turn the bottle and oops, they were serving the junk. Got that fixed fast!

NCL's Latitude Rewards chart shows substitutions for Moderno in Footnote #6.

It also notes the $35 food limit:

https://www.ncl.com/fr/en/latitudes-rewards-program

6 Benefit is available on sailings 5 days or longer, and entitles each guest to one appetizer, one entrée and one dessert of choice. Entrée items up to $35 are covered. For items over this amount, an upcharge will be added to your onboard account. No restaurant substitutions. Names vary by ship. Restaurants not available on all ships. On Norwegian Bliss, Moderno is replaced by Los Lobos or Q. On Norwegian Joy, Moderno is replaced by Food Republic or Q. In Food Republic, the benefit entitles each guest to a total food value of $35 per guest. On Norwegian Encore, Moderno or La Cucina is replaced by Los Lobos or Q. On Norwegian Spirit, Cagney’s or Le Bistro becomes Cagney’s only. Moderno or La Cucina is replaced by Le Bistro or Onda.

Yeah, I pointed that to them earlier, but they are suggesting that something has happened with Modern post covid.

Based on the later comment saying Moderno is still open on the Breakaway it sounds like there is some confusion.

Pre-Covid cruising on the Escape, Gem & Dawn, where the fixed price for specialty dining had already risen then (it's now $39 p/p) - we booked onboard (embarkation/day 1) and used our complimentary P/+ c dining with it (instead of Cagney/LeBistro) and I don't recall being charged extra for going above the dollar limit ... it was $30 max p/p earlier & bumped higher to $35 max p/p.  The confusion, it seemed, continued as part of NCL traditions - maybe, let's just toss their competent/not I.T. Dept under the bus or freight train.

But, if the host/ess or manager in speciality dining is going to instruct the server to charge the differential cost against our onboard account, I am fine with another way of spending those non-refundable OBC going forward ... since using up those, sometimes "generous" OBC that we accrued are getting slightly more challenging.

To put things against land-based dining in perspectives, $39 p/p for Moderno or Teppanyaki onboard with the purchasing power of today's U.S. dollars and inflation, isn't really pricey and a relative bargain, IMHO.

I did as you suggested and Moderno is still listed as a restaurant.  However, it no longer exists on any ship since covid. I was looking for someone who has cruised in the last month or so to answer my question.

Moderno is still on the Gem, we ate there twice last month.

We do and I know of others, don't "waste" that free bottle of sparkling stuff and return it to the ship to re-gift it, and the room steward with more work - by using it as a door prize or giveaway if there's a CC Meet & Greet/Mingle.  First time cruisers and coming to the M&G usually don't mind ... and/or save that for the Slot Pull as extra prize(s) although the casino host usually donate a bottle or two for the CC event. Not giving NCL corporate funky ideas - if they discontinue the sparkling "wine" - a minority will moan & groan about it somewhere ... we'll be happy exchanging an extra carton of water in a box, or two.  Sigh, more "work" for the housekeeping department or room stewards.

It's a decent selection, acceptable to some, of complimentary wine - that now retails for $10 to $15 in town but we all know, high markups and with the corkage fee for BYO, it isn't bad.

I don't whine about it but after the first cruise I just don't open it anymore.  I don't think, based on what I've read here, many do.  I would hesitate to regift it like an old fruitcake at a M&G but if someone told me they were a fan I'd be happy to let them have it. 🙂

I'm sure it isn't a costly line item for NCL and it sounds fancy.  But I'd agree, an extra box of water would be preferable.

Really? I was able to make reservations at Moderno for our upcoming April cruise on the Escape. If it isn't open, it doesn't make sense to have it available for booking.

Moderno is open. The previous poster seems to have heard some incorrect information.

Strange. I just booked a table there on an upcoming cruise.

Regarding Latitudes specialty dining restaurants, what restaurants replaced Moderno and La Cucina in the Latitudes dining coupons.

I was just on the Encore and it was Los Lobos or Q.  I didn't see that info anywhere I looked ahead of time (granted I didn't try very hard), but it was on the back of the Platinum coupon we received.

For future reference, the options are listed on the latitudes page. Just google NCL Latitudes and directly under the list of benefits are all the details (I don't think that a link will work if I post it as it goes to the UK site).

It can be useful to know in advance if you want to make plans.

If there are combined meals arranged for CC people through the M&G how about putting the free bubbly on the table.   Arrange with the Maître d' and get yours changed for cold ones.   People will thank you especially those without the package.

We have done that several times when I have served as the M&G coordinator for a cruise.  We usually try to get in touch a day early with the restaurant staff who will be serving at the M&G and make arrangements for Mimosas.  We leave the sparkling wine in our stateroom refrigerator overnight, then bring it with us to the M&G to match up with the OJ and champagne flutes supplied by the waitstaff.  On those cruises where we anticipated a large M&G turnout, we sometimes have posted on the Roll Call requesting other P+ Latitudes members to donate their "sham-pain" as well.

ok,

my father and I will be on a 9-night TA cruise from Portugal to New York next month; we are sailing in a club balcony suite.  we also have a third person in the room (bronze level).

this will be our first platinum sailing

we also have our free at sea premium dining (i know the third guest will not get these)

my question is: can the third person be the guest on the two platinum meal vouchers our stateroom will receive?

You should be able to, yes.

We have done it in the past when we sailed with our son..

Just be aware that these things can depend on the individual staff members, so there is a small chance that someone may interpret the rules differently. Very unlikely that would happen though.

thank you. one final thing, there will be two vouchers for per stateroom, NOT two vouchers per guest?

Here is a copy of the Voucher that we had on the Joy in Nov. It spells out the Specialty Restaurants that are replaced on the ships. Hope this helps clarify.

I believe they’ve recently changed the rules.  The vouchers can now be used at any specialty restaurant.  The bottle of wine can be gotten at any restaurant with a wine list.

Yes, that is correct.

This is the problem with old threads being resurrected. They include things which were true at the time they were posted but are now out of date.

When Oxo posted that it was correct info.
