Well NCL just tightened things up

The mask requirement was only for the current sailing of the previously infected ship. They have not instituted a mask mandate ship-wide. The article indicated that "it was unclear whether they intend to do so".

So are there any lounges or Crooners where you don’t have to where a mask?

On Royal most venues (including casino) were designated vaccinated only and you didn’t have to where a mask.

Celebrity is 100% vaccinated with no kids and no masks are required onboard.

Please tell me there are some onboard venues where masks are not required

On the Sky a week ago, we NEVER wore a mask while in Take 5 or any of the bars, though all the crew certainly did. IOW, the "Sip and Cover" rule did not apply. If sitting down eating or drinking, no masks were required, though common sense dictated that if you had along walk to get to your seat, say into a restaurant, you would wear one until you sat down.  They were required in the theatre, but a few ignored that rule. If you don't like masks, stick to X.

I am a bit puzzled by this thread. I have sailed 11weeks on RCCL  since August on 3 different ships and those all had the same protocols. The casinos were only open to vaxxed passengers as was the down stair portion of the theater. No mask was required in those venues. On the other hand, if one was observed anywhere inside other than those venues without a mask any crew member would stop them and offer a mask. If they refused a mask security was alerted. I witnessed a guy escorted out of the Schooner Bar for refusing to wear a mask. All vaccinated passengers had to present the special wristband to enter these vaxx only venues mask or no. I am surprised Princess does not do the same. Am I missing something?

Princess is all vaccinated as is NCL but NCL does not mask and had 17 cases on one ship last week.  Wear masks people

From the FAQs dated December 1 for US sailings. I am just finishing a b2b on the Ruby: a 5 day and a 10 day. Even though technically only the 10 leg required masks in hallways and stairs, with rare exception over all 14 days, people were masked at all times indoors except when at a bar or when dancing.

It's funny you mentioned that.  Yes, on the first leg of that cruise, I completely forgot to put my mask back on when walking from the Piazza, after having my cappuccino, to the elevators.  I noticed an officer coming up to me but when my DH asked me jokingly, 'oh, so you think you don't have to wear a mask now?', I immediately put it on.  I did notice the officer did an about face.  Sometimes, I just need a little reminder.  I'm truly not trying to buck the system.

You are right, though ... most people, with the exception being in the Explorer's Lounge in the evenings, were pretty good about masking up as requested.

In addition to being vaccinated, Princess requires a negative Covid test two days prior to sailing. I didn’t read where NCL requires a negative Covid test, which would be concerning if that’s the case. I’m currently on the Sky Princess, and feel very safe because of Princess’ stricter requirements. Passengers for the most part are masking up except when eating or drinking at the bar or while seated at dinner. Very few don’t wear masks.

My wife and I are fully vaccinated and recently received the booster shot. We will follow the masking rules except while having a drink in lounges that offer the ability to social distance. Crooners, Wheelhouse, etc. Anytime we cannot social distance they will be on.

But if we are 6 feet from fellow passengers and have a drink with us, we will not "Sip and Cover" as it makes no sense nor places others at risk (That is a medical fact)

Let the flaming begin,..........

I find it humorous that people will eat in a dining room with several hundred un-masked people for 2 hours without a problem, but freak out when they pass someone in a hallway with a mask slightly askew.  A grasp of relative risks is not common...

I thought what you say is what is supposed to be happening except for your flaming idea.

Our upcoming cruise is exactly a 10 day voyage, so I believe the official policy is to "Sip & Cover" while drinking anywhere except in a dining area.

I was on Regal Princess October/November and the Sip and Cover notices seemed to mean if you had a drink on the table you could avoid putting the mask back on.  When in this situation I only put mine back if the waiter approached or another passenger got within a couple of metres. Everyone else seemed to have a less stringent approach.

That sounds reasonable and no different than when your in the dining room. I will say that my wife and I love to dress up, but for this upcoming New Year's Eve cruise, she has decided against wearing a beautiful gown given an ugly mask will ruin it. (I will forgo a tux or dark suit also.) Such a shame given the extremely low risk of serious illness being triple vaccinated an in great health. I wish Princess would offer free N95 masks to all passengers that wish to wear one and leave us with a choice.

I got on Ebay and had a look through the masks on there, the choice on there is amazing.  I have a box of 100 from the hospital but decided on going down the designer route.  A kenzo pattern was my fall back option but I found a site that did national flag masks and browsed through, ended up with the flag of Turkmenistan.  You can get one to match anything sparkly dess or tuxedo and have a better filter under if you feel the need.

Thanks for the idea - I actually have a mask on order that represents the old Soviet Union's Hammer & Sickle. The mask is black with the iconic symbol being red. I'm sure it will spark some thought as to where we are headed......

However in a dining room most people are stationary at their tables. So very few are in close proximity and the number does not change so maybe during a meal you are in close proximity with very few other than your table mates. Walking around you might pass is close proximity to many different people.

We are certainly mask proponents, but can't say we faithfully followed all of the recommendations  - "We always recommend guests wash or replace their mask daily"

In terms of washing fabric masks I think the alternative of ironing them with a steam iron is easiest and most effective way of sterilising them.

We disembarked off the Sky on the 27th. Probably 90% of the passengers and 100% of the crew obeyed the masking "requirements" as well as the "recommendations", but there clearly were a few who appeared to simply ignore all rules. They would not wear masks in elevators, in the theater, even in the buffet line, etc and were immune to the stares and comments from fellow passengers. We never saw a single instance of a crew member enforcing their policy. Fortunately, these people were few and far between. Corridors, stairways, etc are grey areas and common sense prevails. I would find myself dropping my mask down when nobody was in sight while climbing the stairs (we never use elevators anyway), but if I encountered someone, I'd pull my mask back up, as would they.

We were on the November 6, Emerald cruise. I didn't notice anyone ignoring the rule. There were a few unpleasant passengers who grumbled about it, but they wore their masks.

There were 3 occasions when I forgot my mask in my cabin. On one occasion, a fellow passenger, passing me in the hall said  'oops, did you forget your mask?' I thanked her and went back to get a mask. On the other two, I made it to my destination, ran into officers in the Piazza and on the Lido, and they politely asked me to put on a mask. On another occasion, I heard the Lido bartender ask a passenger to wear a mask at the bar.

One thing that really didn't make sense to me, is that they enforce the mask rule, but allow smoking in the casino.  It really is hard to breathe in that space so we didn't spend much time there.
