Covid Quarantine

Cannot find the answer--maybe cannot find the right search words.  If one were to test positive while onboard, do you quarantine in your stateroom or are you sent to a Red Zone?

On Queen Elizabeth back of the ship was sectioned off for quarantine, you did in December not stay in your own cabin, and our understanding is that you can not stay together with your partner.

Can anyone please confirm if it is the case that you are not permitted to stay with your partner, even if you want to, if only one of you tests positive whilst on-board?

If you take a look on the P&O board you will see the story of someone currently quarantining on Britannia separated from their partner, hope that helps

On HAL they have been given the option.  Some feel it is good to have an advocate outside of the Red Zone.  EM

They are not even on the same deck and states that if he goes on the balcony and lean over he can see his wife one deck below and wave and shout to her. That was concerning enough but to be given such a short time to pack and separate luggage and then for the one that was positive to be escorted to his "new" quarantined cabin by 2 staff in hazmat suits and followed by one spraying disinfectant really opened my eyes to what a horrendous experience it must have been.

They're not on the same deck because he is positive and she is not.  It is standard procedure to separate positive from negative testers.  It has been known for some time you are generally moved at night, carry your own luggage and are escorted by spraying hazmat clad staff. 

 

This is the standard protocols agreed by the cruise lines, it isn't just one set of ships it's all of them.

 

Izzywiz is holding up very well and making the most of the situation, so much better than the Daily Mail whingeing couple on Queen Mary 2 who only seemed concerned about getting a minute's fame in a shabby newspaper.

If both of you test positive, you can stay in the same cabin. If one of you needs the assistance of the other person, you can stay in the same cabin.

Not so sure that is the policy currently, we looked at this extensvely as my husband would not be able to quarantine alone, due to his health and needs 24hr care, we could not be guaranteed that we would be able to stay together, therefore reluctantly we cancelled.

Is that a change of policy? When I asked about my 82 year old auntie who I am travelling with in April this year I was told unless we were both positive we would be separated even in Spain with the families being expected to go in one room whatever.  If this is a new policy, I will rest a lot easier if it means I can stay with her if the worst happens.

Where someone cannot safely quarantine alone, such as in the case they need continual care, then you will not be separated. It won't be guaranteed as its as the discretion of the ship's crew but ultimately they are not in a position to provide personal care etc, therefore will allow it.

 

At the end of the day, if the cruise line confines someone to a cabin who is unable to look after themselves then they will be facing a very tough legal fight if something happens, and probably even if something doesn't happen.

 

@Megabear2 I wrote my post thinking of a married/civil couple rather than travelling companions. This is where there is a difference between necessity. expectation and preference.

Oh dear. So Auntie and I will still be separated then.  I've not discussed it with her yet because I was hoping the situation might change. It's made worse because of different insurance policies as well. Might be time for a serious chat but we are balance paid.

Will anyone in authority with Cunard comment on the current quarantine policy on the QE if one tests positive while onboard.  Can one stay in their stateroom with person(s) they are booked with in that stateroom?    I find it quite annoying that management is not willing to be transparent about this very important concern for many of us.  I don't want to pay lots of money (we have booked 4 Queens Grills staterooms for a long postponed family reunion) and then, through likely no fault of mine,  test positive (I realize there is a risk) because I was "in contact with someone else" (who I may or may know) and be moved to a much less desirable stateroom--alone.

On QE now and we had one infected family/or couple. Rule was explained by captain as A)isolated,B) disembarked at next island.C)contact staff isolated until testing results and a period of time.. a reduction in some service only noticeable effect is no turndown.(as staff now spread thinner) other than that no noticeable changes.

 

That may be just because its a Spanish Canarys rule though.. there's a lot more to it than it being one rule fits all. However I would think isolation is a given.. and on this trip the isolated were moved to an area on deck 1 according to staff conversation, which comes with the usual caveats. 

 

No one from Cunard will comment on these boards.

Alaska in June 2022 (and hopefully things well be much better then).  However, we are taking our family--3 married children and 2 grandchildren.  With that many (10 of us) I'm trying to answer all concerns and issues that might arise.   Will try to contact Cunard directly.

Lots of things could change between now and then, the Alaskan cruising season hasn't even started yet. I wouldn't expect anyone to be able to answer your question with anything except a best guess.

Just back off QM2 there are isolation cabins which you are moved to, however we were positive and stayed in our cabin, Meals served to you we had a call at 830pm for our breakfast order and during the night the lunch and dinner menu was posted under the door. Then called mid morning to order, you can also use the room service menu

Do you know why you were allowed to stay in your own cabin? That must have been much nicer than being moved.

4 QG bookings is a big investment; better get insurance is all I can say.

As Mary and Elizabeth seem to be cruising with a less than full complement of passengers at the moment, if Cunard don't go back to full passenger sailings when their current April/ May Covid policies are due to end or maybe tweaked, does anyone know if  the bookings taken have reflected this possibility or will there be some bumping needed?
